    Oilers sign Ladisav Smid to 4 year / $14mil extension

    Well, looks like we're down to Yandle, Bouwmeester, or Regehr...

    Top 6 fwd next?

    I want them to buyout Samuelsson... fill his spot with Clarkson... so Bertuzzi - Helm - Clarkson. I want them to trade for Gaborik, Vanek to fill the first or second line RW spot (scorer). Franzen - Datsyuk - Gaborik/Vanek CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Gustav Nyquist ($0.900m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Nathan Horton ($4.000m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($1.350m) Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / David Clarkson ($3.250m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.925m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ron Hainsey ($4.500m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($1.000m) Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) Carlo Colaiacovo ($2.500m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($4.000m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) OTHER Buyout: Mikael Samuelsson ($0.000m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,262,879; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,037,121 I'm bored, but I would LOVE to see something like that for next year and it would keep us under the cap! Substitute Hainsey for any other comparable top pairing d-man.

    Top 6 fwd next?

    Well, if we're looking at this thing in the long-term.... and I hope we are looking beyond this year with whatever move/s we make. I think we try and piece together a package of d-men/prospect/pick for a top 6 forward: - Gaborik - Vanek - Hemsky - Pominville - Clowe That's just to name a few I can think of that have been discussed as trade targets by April 3rd. I think Gaborik would look nice on Datsyuk's wing, but if not him, I'd like Hemsky or Pominville (both need a change of scenery). 2013-2014 Forward Lines Franzen - Datsyuk - Gaborik Nyquist - Zetterberg - Brunner Bertuzzi - Helm - Samuelsson Miller - Abdelkader - Tootoo Emmerton In an ideal world, I would like to see Samuelsson, Abdelkader, and Emmerton go bye bye and go with this: Franzen - Datsyuk - Gaborik Nyquist - Zetterberg - Brunner Tatar - Helm - Bertuzzi Miller - Andersson - Tootoo Eaves Our defense could go two different routes.... first is that you would keep it as is and let the kids grow together with Kronwall and Ericsson anchoring things or second you make that move for a top pairing d-man: - Bouwmeester - Yandle - Boyle - Streit Again, just the ones that should be available off the top of my head. JBo is a hot topic around here, but I think he'd do well here alongside Kronwall, although so would Yandle and could potentially offer up more offense. I'm not entirely sure he's great defensively, though. Kronwall - Bouwmeester Ericsson - Smith Quincey - Kindl Lashoff or Kronwall - Smith Ericsson - Kindl Quincey - Dekeyser Lashoff I would almost like to see the second option and concentrate on boosting our offense through trade/s and or free agent signings/buyouts.

    Ladislav Smid

    I would pay for him in a heartbeat, considering that they have been lacking a true shutdown defender this season. Even Stuart started slowing down so they've really been lacking one for a couple of seasons. We need to look at both sides of the coin. We have a decent offensive defense core. Some guys need to be shuffled around and overall health has been the biggest issue in my opinion. See how the league breaks down as far as defensive scoring: Mon - 79 points Pitt - 72 Chi - 66 Wpg - 65 LA and Tor - 62 Ott - 61 Stl - 59 Car - 54 Anah and TB and Van - 53 Min - 52 Phx - 51 Det - 49 Cal and NYR - 48 Clbs and NYI - 47 Bos and Phi - 46 Fla and Nsh - 45 Dal and SJ and Wash - 43 NJ - 41 Buf - 40 Edm - 37 Col - 32 The Wings land right in the middle as far as this goes. I'd like to see us either stick with what we got while adding a defensive piece like Smid, or go out and trade for both an offensive d-man (Bouwmeester, Campbell, Yandle, etc) and a defensive guy (Smid, Regehr, etc). I firmly believe that Brendan Smith will be a 40 point player once he becomes a little more comfortable, he has the potential. He would be our missing offensive d-man to help catapult us into the upper echelon of defensive scoring teams. Again, though, we still need to make sure we're protecting the defensive zone and someone like Smid could give us something we desperately need: consistent defensive pressure.

    ryan miller available?

    The whole argument that we should bring in Miller because he's a Michigan native is, quite frankly, annoying. It doesn't really mean anything relating to how successful he would be here. You're pissed about Howard not making a save here and there when the defense fails? Look at Miller the past few seasons, nothing exceptional there, while we've seen Howard playing lights out last season before getting injured, and he's been probably our best player more times than not this season. I don't understand why this is even a question in some peoples' minds.

    Dustin Byfuglien

    Yeah, the guy's not going anywhere and Eklund is up his ass 99.99% of the time.

    3/13 GDT : Red Wings 2 at Flames 5

    Why not take talent-less Abdelkader off of the top 2 lines completely. He's, at best, a 4th line mucker. It is beyond me why Babs is keeping him with Datsyuk. I'd rather see Andersson up there if you're looking to put size with Dats. Abdelkader is bringing Datsyuk down and these lines are not helping the team win. Franzen is coasting, as usual. Nice giveaway tonight. Cleary cannot effectively battle on the boards anymore. Brunner is getting squeezed for space, Emmerton is doing nothing of any importance, drop him! Get rid of Franzen, Cleary, Abdelkader, and possibly White (although we need his right handedness).

    'Top Pairing D-Man

    Our #1 Defensemen is not someone we'll sign or trade for. It's one of the up and comers in our system already: Ryan Sproul Xavier Ouellet Mattias Backman Danny Dekeyser (undrafted) I would still like to see us make some sort of improvement: Bouwmeester Yandle Regehr Leopold Green Carson etc...
  9. SwedeLundin77

    4 Forwards that are/may be available, that help us:

    Stafford of course would be the best option and Holland has a strong relationship with Regier. I wouldn't mind Kulemin as well, seeing if he'd form good chemistry with Datsyuk. I like the idea of Dubinsky, but only if we replaced Abdelkader with him. Not like Hornqvist due to his lack of size.
  10. SwedeLundin77

    Stafford available.......

    As stated before, I would bring Stafford here and one of Regehr/Leopold. It is a no-brainer. A defensive defenseman and a right handed shooter.
  11. SwedeLundin77

    Dubinsky available............

    Link is not working for me. Not sure if Dubinsky is a needed player for the Wings...
  12. SwedeLundin77

    Stafford available.......

    Stafford and Regehr or Leopold would be a nice pickup for the Wings. Stafford would be an upgrade on the 2nd line and has right handed shot, while Regehr is a steady top 4 d-man and Leopold is more offensive of a d-man. What would a trade for them make? I am pretty sure the relationship between KH and Regier is solid, so this could very likely be a good move for both clubs.

    Carolina looking for a Veteran D-Man

    USA TODAY’s Kevin Allen reported the following via Twitter: “Look for the Carolina Hurricanes to trade for a veteran defenseman over the next few days.” Ian White's new home?
  14. SwedeLundin77

    Wings and others after Perry....

    This is a player, who we mostly all hate, but could definitely thrive here and bring some much needed excitement to the offense that has been lacking the past couple weeks. Just imagine replacing Abdelkader with Perry with Datsyuk.... it actually makes sense! But in the end, I doubt we'd come close to offering what those other teams will. And I doubt Holland would pay him the big bucks.

    3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

    Franzen has got to go... He made quite a few errors, and aside from hitting the post, he was rather worthless out there. This is how he's looked since returning from injury, and he hasn't done much outside of this to warrant keeping him around. At least healthy scratch him a few games and send a message.
  16. SwedeLundin77

    Howard = Average

    NORM!!! YES!
  17. SwedeLundin77

    Holland looking around

    Yeah I like Murray and Regehr, too. I think Murray would fit in nicely with either Kronwall or Ericsson, being a Swede and all. He'd help out the defensive side of things nicely.
  18. SwedeLundin77

    Howard = Average

    Well you'd obviously pull Legace out of whatever deep, dark hole he's in and plop him back in goal. Duh!
  19. SwedeLundin77

    Holland looking around

    I personally am indifferent about Bouwmeester coming here. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but at this point, will it truly hurt the team? He's playing stronger this year than he has in the past few and I don't think it's a stretch to think it's because of new coaching. I also feel that Babchuk hasn't been given a fair shake yet and has some pretty solid upside. He put together a good season in Carolina and in Calgary each, but then seems to get the stick after for some reason. He's a d-man who has good size, can put the puck in the net, and his a righty. Why not go for a low-risk, high-reward type situation (as discussed above). Who else might Holland target? Who fits the secondary scoring help? Defensemen with expiring contracts: - Visnovsky (36) - Hainsey (31) - Streit (35) - Regehr (32) - Whitney (30) - Scuderi (34) - Leopold (32) - Babchuk (28) - Douglas Murray (32) Personally, I'd like to see us go out and grab either Regehr, Whitney, Scuderi, Murray, or Babchuk. What do you all think? Forwards: - Horton - Clowe - Weiss - Clarkson - Raymond - Boyes I would personally love Horton or Weiss for secondary scoring. Horton has not fit in well with Boston and I believe would thrive on a second line here with Datsyuk feeding him. I've always liked Weiss, but i'm not sure how he'd fit here/if he would. What do you think?
  20. SwedeLundin77

    Howard = Average

    I don't see Howard taking more than 3.5-4 million on a longer-term contract (4-6 years)
  21. SwedeLundin77

    Howard = Average

    This thread is just wrong, plain wrong. Howard, while not being necessarily elite, is a very solid goaltender. I just think the Wings need to find a competent backup to spell him more often and give him rest. I firmly believe the gets worn out playing as much as he does. People seem to forget that he was putting up Vezina type numbers before getting the injury bug last season. Being a Detroit 'tender is one of the most thankless jobs in all of Detroit sports and it's really obnoxious. It couldn't possibly be the defense a lot of nights.
  22. SwedeLundin77

    Mule out tonight

    Where is Nyquist?
  23. Wasn't Kent Huskins under Babcock while he was at Anaheim? Maybe Babs had some input into the decision to pick him up...

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

    If it's Lidstrom, I'll jump for joy!

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

    Well here are the options I see from the UFA list... although I'm not sure how it works with players that are playing in Europe... Shaone Morrisonn - currently playing for HC Spartak Moscow Jaroslav Spacek - retired (38 yrs old) Chris Campoli - UFA Pavel Kubina - currently playing for HC Vitkovice Alexandre Picard - currently playing for HC Lev Praha Brett Clark - currently playing in in AHL Jeff Finger - UFA Randy Jones - UFA Sami Lepisto - currently playing for HC Lev Praha Brad Lukowich - UFA Colin White - UFA I'd personally like to see us go to our youth again, as Lashoff impressed in his first game on both sides of the rink. Why not bring up Max Nicastro? Lilja cleared waivers and can be re-called without risk of being nabbed by another team (new rule in CBA) "Thanks to the new CBA, there are no longer re-entry waivers, so either can be recalled by the Flyers without risk."
