    Wings interested in Garrison

Well, of course you'd probably need to spice that up a tad (throw in a prospect, or maybe even Kindl could suffice).

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

I like the idea of taking a gamble on Schultz as a full-time Wing next season, but it goes against every ideal the Wings have instilled for years upon years. You don't just hand a guy the opportunity, he has to earn it. That is more than likely what they'd offer Schultz, a 2 contract... with every opportunity to make the big squad if he brings it at training camp.

    Wings interested in Garrison

I would entertain this signing to fill Stuart's spot and provide a little oomph on the powerplay. We really do need RH shots and if we can pull Suter from Nashville, it would be a solid situation to find ourselves in: Suter - Kronwall Smith - Garrison Ericsson - White Kindl Trade Quincey's negotiating rights to New Jersey for Parise's negotiating rights... boom.

    Pasha off to the WC

The players you mentioned (Emelin, Nikitin, and Kulemin) are all RFA's... It's not as if Dats can just say, "hey come play for the Red Wings..." It's highly unlikely that their current teams let them walk, since they're all solid young players. Now, Burdasov, while I know very little about him, could be an interesting snag if he is able to sign with an NHL team. Crazy he hasn't been drafted by anyone and he's only 20 years old. Good size and decent numbers in Russia. Does he have any glaring weaknesses?

    Toughness and Snipers

Parise, Jokinen, Prust/Konopka, and Carkner... If Lidstrom retires: Parise, Suter, Prust/Konopka. Or something like that... I don't know. We'll just have to see what Kenny does or does not do.

    Where does Bertuzzi fit?

Bertuzzi WILL be on the third line, while filling in the top 6 when injuries or slow production occurs. He will also assume Holmstrom duties in front of the net on the powerplay from time to time. And he is a solid guy to have in the bottom 6 with some specialties that do help the squad. He is not by any means a slug out there.. he skates well enough and won't be pushed around. I'm happy to have him as a 3rd liner who can put up 35-50 pts.

    2011-2012 Vezina nominees

Uhh... Mike Smith? Rinne had a good season, but Mike Smith should have the third nomination. Lundqvist, Quick, and Smith. I think they need to take into account that Rinne has a better squad in front of him.

Wings meet Preds in First Round

So if we stay tied with Nashville after their game tonight, we still sit in the 5 spot?!? We have one more win overall, less OT wins, and the season series was tied.... How does it make sense that the tie-breaker goes to Nashville? Did they change the rules, I thought they went off points, then overall wins as the first tie breaker?
  9. May I have the password, I just posted, but now I'm not seeing my post... Thanks!

    3/2 GDT : Wild 0 at Red Wings 6

Stream? The link at the beginning goes to a user profile...

2/28 GDT : Red Wings 5 at Blue Jackets 2

They really need to let him play 18 minutes at least... give him a solid opportunity while he can slot in.

Anyone streaming this online and not using the silly link on the front page? I can't find a solid stream, hd if possible. Thanks!

    Moen / Gill / Allen

Why wouldn't you grab that kid off of waivers?!? At the least, he could play out the season in GR... But man, good size, good speed, and I know he put up some decent points on a crappy team in Atlanta a couple season back. He's only 27. Just seems like a supremely low-risk move.

    What to do about goaltending

Why not kill 2 birds with one stone if you are looking at Nabokov as an option. Make a trade for Nabokov and Moulson/Okposo... I know that it seems unlikely to get some of the players from NYI since they are younger, but man it would be pretty sweet to get a bigger winger like Moulson... Just an idea.

    Draper or Hudler?

Hudler... still has potential to be traded and possibly could improve in a contract year. We could technically benefit off of him playing stronger this season, but i'm not counting on it. I like that Draper is leaving and we have Mursak coming in. I think Mursak will be a great player with us. He's pretty much Helm with better hands...

    Grade Holland

Yeah... you see the assets given up in those trades were just a tad more than we really have to give. We have some very strong prospects, but most of them are not NHL ready, and that is what most of those trades required. The offseason is not over yet and a trade could still be coming. I give Holland a B, but I still will withhold the true grade until the offseason is OFFICIALLY over.

    Grade Holland

This past season, Hudler looked so disinterested. He had that decent streak, yes, but in the playoffs he disappeared and when we needed him to put some offense up, he seemed apprehensive to shoot or go to the net. We need guys who will go to the tough areas and battle (and win)... Hudler hasn't proved well enough that he can do that (post KHL).

    Grade Holland

Subtractions: 1. Osgood 2. Draper (more than likely) 3. Salei Additions: 1. Commodore 2. White 3. Conklin 4. Mursak 5. Emmerton I would grade him at a B+ this offseason. He did what he could and didn't overpay (other than Ericsson) to get the job done. White and Commodore should bring a more defensive and gritty style to the d-corps. Conklin is a solid backup, so we should be getting plenty of quality relief and a fresher Howard throughout the year. The only knock I have on Holland this offseason is the inability to move Hudler's contract (1 year left) and bring in a more competent top 6 forward to play with Dats or Z. This is something that I feel we don't necessarly need, but would put us over the top in terms of competitive edge. With 6+ million leftover in cap, it may still happen, but I am thinking Holland will bide his time until the trade deadline and bring in someone to help out offensively then. It is also entirely possible that he is going to try and save that excess cap for next off-season. It's not mystery that Lidstrom will more than likely call it after this season, so bringing in a stud d-man to help adjust to this new era will be top priority. They also will need to give raises to Kronwall and Stuart. The team, with losing Osgood, Draper, and Salei has gotten younger. The defense has added much needed grit/physicallity, and our goaltending situation has become more stable. Good job Holland. In you, I trust.

    RFA/UFA Signings

Creepy ass response, but I completely agree with the player comparison. I'd bring on Semin for a 1 year (tryout).

Red Wings Name New Assistant Coaches

I think it's only fitting that we call him "McBlashill." That is all.
  24. SwedeLundin77

This is why Commodore was the best signing ever...

"Commodore lays a big hit on Crosby, boy, I didn't know he had so much ram in him!"
  25. SwedeLundin77

    Ryan Shannon?

I wouldn't count on it, this is what Mursak is for. Mursak is 23, fast, and has decent scoring hands (Helm with more of a scoring touch).
