Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild

As much as we'd all like to disagree with that statement the fact is your right. I don't think were close to missing the playoffs yet, but if Holland doesn't make the right moves over the next couple season we will be a non playoff team.

Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild

Helene tweeted Wings weren't close on money with Parise, I just wonder is Suter said if Detroit won't sign us both we'll both just go to wild?

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

While I agree with all your points, it could be that is why they don't want to come here. It's no secert in Detroit you either win the Stanley Cup or it's a fail season, PEROID. These guys would be under teremendous pressure to take this team to it's 12th Stanley Cup starting day one. If they signed with the Wild they would have a few years before the pressure to go all the way started to mount. I read a tweet yesterday (can't remember who from) about Suter wanting to sign with a quite market like Detroit with no scrutiny from fans. I say to anyone that believes that, ask Chris Osgood about fan scrutiny in Detroit. There WILL be a lot of pressure on these guys in hockeytown, maybe that affects there decision, maybe it doesn't. While I do believe the Red Wings are the premier franchise in the NHL, I also believe players are nervous about signing here because they know what will be expected of them.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

I understand that, but let's be honest, these guys are both UFA at the right time. If so many teams didn't need them and there where other quality UFA they'd never get away with the amount of money they want, or being able to make there signings so drama filled.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

If I was llitch I'd tell Kenny if they haven't signed by 3pm Thursday we start seeking other options.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

Maybe llitch is pissed about the 10 million signing bonus check he just wrote?
  9. Damn it Suter make a desicion, this is one less option now.

Parise Watch [update x2]: Red Wings OUT of Running

I would agree more often than not your logic makes perfect sense. If there goal has been to find a deal where they can play together, (only they would know this) resigning earlier would have eliminated that opportunity. I admit I didn't consider your point about them feeding off each other to increase there own vaules. Hopefully this drama ends today and Kenny can focus on his next move.

Parise Watch [update x2]: Red Wings OUT of Running

Franzen has had a 50 point season every year since the 08-09 season except for 09-10 where he only played 27 games due to injury. If you look at his stats he's been pretty consistent during the season. I will agree he has been a non factor the last three years in the playoffs with a total of 22 points combined since the 2010 playoffs compared to 23 points in just the 2009 run. I wonder if maybe it was more that Franzen over achieved during the 08 and 09 runs more so than him being streaky. As for Datsyuk and Zetterberg needing help I agree 110%, I just don't know who can fill that void of the available players beyond Parise or Nash if neither work out. The only other option would be Doan, I just don't see him leaving Phoenix if they can save that franchise.

When I look at Semin I see Robert Lang all over again, has the talent, but lacks the heart.

The longer it takes them to decide, the more I believe they want to go to the same team, or just resign.

Ilitch, Chelios to fly to Suter, Holland to fly to Parise

Sounds like you have a Razr, I've been rocking ICS since January on my Nexus! On topic, it would be a dream to land both, but like many I want Suter first as we have talent up front.

    2012 Lockout Watch

If there is any ounce of truth to this we mostly likely will be facing another lockout this year. If I read this right only 11 teams can basically afford there rosters? It sounds like the salary cap needs to be lowered substantially for the league to be healthy as a whole. I just don't see the players agreeing to reverse the cap level to the point the league will want it without lossing another season. I know most people will not agree with me, but the NHL just doesn't have the fan base to pay there top players 8 to 10 million a year. The top guys should be making around 5 million while the second line guys making in the 2 to 3 million range. I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but the fan base just isn't there LEAGUE WIDE. I understand there are a few clubs like the Wings that can afford the 8 to 10 million contracts, but that's the reason they added the cap in the first place because most teams can't. I guess we will see how it plays out in the coming months, I just don't think the fans will be as forgiving this time.

    2012 Lockout Watch

I agree 100%, people are done with guys that make millions. Owners and players cancelling games/season over a few extra bucks, I mean it's all about coin right? Like someone else said, the ratings are as good as they'll ever get with Gary (dickweed) Bettman as commissioner, and having a tv contract with NBCsports instead of ESPN. I love the NHL and Wings more than I can put in words, but another lockout and I may have to walk away. The NHL seems to be the only sports that thinks they can keep having lockouts and fans will always stick around.
  19. I believe it's one of the hardest to win, but for anyone to declare which sport is the hardest to win a championship in is only stating there opinion. Unless someone has personally played in every pro sport and won a championship they have no way of knowing this. The NHL is hands down my favorite league, and the Wings are my favorite team of any sport. I've only really started getting into the NFL the last couple years, and I have to say an NFL playoff game is pretty damn brutal, so much so that there is NOWAY they could play a best of seven series in two weeks. There wouldn't be enough healthy players left to field a team. I'm a hockey fan first, while I might want to believe the cup is the hardest to win, it would only be my opinion.

    What Lidstrom NEEDS to Do...

We all know Lidstrom is a franchise player, second only to Yzerman as the fan favorite the last two decades. I have no doubt he cares about the future of this organization, but at this point in his playing career I'm guessing his only concern is next season, he isn't thinking about two seasons from now much less 10. I would imagine the conversation is more about what would it take to put a real Stanley Cup contender on the ice for the 2012/2013 season and base his return next season on that. I don't think he makes a decision on next season until he knows what the Wings can put on the ice. I believe we will know his future about a week into free agency. I've been wrong plenty of times before, I just don't see him returning unless we add a couple key players he feels makes the Wings a favorite to win the Cup.

Who would you most blame for a round 2 loss?

You know,I can't remember the Wings EVER being this bad on the draw.I remember the days of when we had to have a defensive faceoff win the Captain,or Draper would win it for us.There's no doubt we wouldn't be down 3-0 if we could just win more faceoff's. I know they scored one goal in game two off the draw.

Who would you most blame for a round 2 loss?

I think the entire team has failed, after making the hard fought push to make the playoffs since the olympic break the entire team looks gased to me.Also I just don't think Howard has what it takes to make it in the playoffs. He's like Legace,a great season goalie, but come crunch time he just isn't good enough. We all know at the end of the day it's a team sport, but we just don't have the goaltending this year to get the job done.I had to work tonight and didn't get to see the game, but being up 3-1 midway in the 3rd,there's no excuse for losing this game.We have to find a number one goalie this summer,or next year will be more of the same.
