He's making $4 mil. Which means the Pens have $14 mil in cap space.
-
Its on LetsGoPens.com as well. They're saying the deal hit a snag
-
Where are you getting this information?
-
They can trade for his rights all they want, he already said he doesn't want to play in the East. I mentioned in another post, the Pens have 7 free agents next year, one of which is Crosby, freeing up a couple million in cap space doesn't give them the ability to go on a spending spree.

I like how Yahoo is using the Caps and Lightning's old logos for their draft page. I'm surprised to see the Jets logo instead of the Thrashers at this point.

Jordan Staal traded to Carolina, signs 10-yr, $60m extension
xtrememachine1 replied to Salviaman's topic in General
This talk about the Pens in on Parise now is just absurd. They picked up $2 mil in cap space in this exchange of players. They have 7 free agents after next year, one of which is Crosby. I keep reading "They'll trade Martin to a team that needs to get the cap floor and then we'll have tons of space!" Uhh yeah, offense wasn't the problem last year. It was their inability to keep the puck out of the net. Not to mention, I don't think the captain of the Devils will join a rival opponent. They would be smarter to go after Suter, but he already said he doesn't want to play in the East. -
Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans
xtrememachine1 replied to evilzyme's topic in General
Unless he's terrible during the preseason, I think he needs to be on the big club from the start. You can't take a 26 year old scoring champion of another league, that multiple teams wanted and put him in the minors. That would really affect our ability to sign other players like this in the future knowing that they'll probably be sent to the AHL if they sign with Detroit. I don't see a problem giving him at least 4th line minutes.- 139 replies

Absolutely. We were spoiled all those years having Yzerman, Shanahan or Hull play the left circle on the powerplay.- 139 replies

Nice pick up, if we have in fact signed him. I'll be interested to see him play in the preseason and see how quickly he adjusts to our team. My only concern was his size, but on EliteProspects.com it says he's a "gritty" player. So maybe Helm with a better scoring touch?- 139 replies

Well Jordan has expressed an interest in playing in Carolina with his brother (https://twitter.com/JoshYohe_Trib/status/215928704738664449). I actually don't think its the money, but rather the length of the deal. At 23, he's probably figuring within 10 years, he'll be worth more than $6 mil per year. Even if its front loaded, I doubt he'll want to be playing for a $1 mil per year at age 34. I also think he might want to sign a shorter deal with someone else where he'll be a top 6 forward, put up bigger numbers to earn himself a bigger contract and then settle down in Carolina. Or maybe he just wants to go straight to Carolina . Either way, he's not going to be in Pittsburgh much longer which might be a good thing for them considering Crosby's and Malkin's contracts are going to be up soon and Shero dishes out contracts like there isn't a salary cap.

I'll be there with my son in our Red Wings jerseys on Saturday. My son's middle name is Yzerman and I'm hoping that I can get Stevie to autograph a copy of his birth certificate, although I don't know how realistic that goal is.

It is believed that the deal he turned down was a 10 year $60 mil deal. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/17883/jordan-staal-turns-down-pens-extension

Love the new design. Dislike the fact that Lidstrom is grayed out now. Not that there was anything you could do about that.
-
LMAO!! Yeah, absolutely. Plenty of fans from other teams on this board. We talk about the Wings more, of course, but plenty of hockey talk in general.
-
Oh please don't make him talk about Minnesota more. lol
-
Got that right. He's still pretty young. If he develops his offensive game a bit, maybe he could be another Martin St Louis instead of another Kris Draper.
-
4 years? I'll take it! At first, I thought "Wow! $2 mil a year eh?", but honestly, for what he brings to the team, he's well worth it.
-
He's going to want more than the $3.3 mil he made last year, but having said that I bet he'd play for Philly for another year at the same price rather than take a little bit more elsewhere.
-
This is a good move for the Wings especially right now. In addition to having a winning tradition, the organization takes good care of its players and accommodates them as best they can. Don't think that that won't be a factor when deciding on where to play for future UFA's. With the exception of maybe Cujo, I don't think anyone that's signed with the Wings over the past 20 years has regretted it.

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?
xtrememachine1 replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
I hope your gut is right. If that's the scenario, he'll be a Wing. He won't go to a division rival, he won't pull a Hossa and join the team that just beat him in the Finals and the Devils are having financial problems. Leaving just us. -
Good move for Stevie. This kid has shown tons of promise and potential. To be honest, if I was a GM of an NHL club and needed a goalie, I'd take a shot with Lindback too.

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?
xtrememachine1 replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
Maybe age had something to do with it, but Brad Richards is a $6.67 mil cap hit with the Rangers and he was the most sought after free agent last year. He's 5 years older than Parise, but he's also experienced no major injuries and scored way more points than him. Throw in the higher cap and the annual inflation of prices, the highest Parise should get is about $7.5 mil, although it wouldn't surprise me to see someone throw a ton more, torpedo their own team in the salary cap, just to show that they "did something". -

Vokoun moved to Pittsburgh for a 7th Round pick.
xtrememachine1 replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Vokoun didn't come to Detroit because he wanted to be the starter. I doubt that's changed, which means maybe he believes he has a chance to be the starter in Pittsburgh or maybe Shero has plans to move Fleury. Putting heat on Fleury could be a good thing, but then again, it could be something that makes him worse. He's been good in the regular season, just not the playoffs recently. There's more pressure in the playoffs, which leads me to believe pressure isn't what he needs right now.
