LOL Except that team had 8 aging stars (+ Prime Lidstrom) while this team has... two? Not to mention prime Grind Line, Homer, Jiri Fisher, a young Datsyuk, at least 3 players with Helm speed (Drapes, Boyd, Dan), etc. That team had the perfect blend of role players to go along with 9 possibly 10 future hall of famers. This current Detroit team is not even close. . Oh I see you mean before Hull and Luc signed? Still not true. We were 3 seasons removed from back-to-back cups with the best goalie and defensemen in the world on our roster.

Eh, I'll take a flyer on a once in a generation two time Hart winning superstar and pair up 2 of the top 3 russian players of the last 10 years. His career decline is masively overrated. basically what comes to mind first Perry - Everytime I saw "Perry would bring us the grit this team needs" this season I threw up a little in my mouth. Picks fights with non-fighters and cheapshots smaller guys with elbows. Real tough. Tootoo - not too familiar with the current tough guys but Tootoo playing and fighting through that smashed up and bloodied nose of his this season is impressive Dorsett - earlier this season for his ingame antics with Tootoo and whining to the media, clown baseball (hockey) bro Zetterberg - never seen Z do or say anything remotely unprofessional. well spoken with charisma. overall seems like a great guy and a solid choice for Red Wing captain.

I was going to say no he's an older, worse Brunner with no upside but on closer inspection he's only 29 with no major injuries coming off 65, 52, and 46 point seasons. Wrong direction but still impressive. He'd be a good replacement for Flip if we traded Flip or couldn't resign him. He'd also be an improvement on shootouts over Z.

At this point I don't think we'd get anything. At the very least bench him or send him down to Grand Rapids. This isn't Kris Draper, the guy has done nothing to deserve a secured spot on the roster when you've played like s*** for 20 games straight.

Knee-jerk message board reaction aside it's starting to get ridiculously comically that Abby continues to be on the 2nd-line without any production while our best player on the team is frozen cold because of it. I'm not sure how he doesn't see it, he has to, but why is he so god damn stubborn? Maybe he's sticking it to Holland for not getting him enough top 6 talent. And how does Franzen get away with 5% effort every night? Where's the accountability? Yeah he's got the best shot on the team and we desperately need offense, still no excuse. You can count on Franzen to cough up 4-5 pucks in the neutral zone every game.

It's been that way for quite a few years even when we were good. Key is Babcock would get our team up and ready for the big games/playoffs. Problem is the roster doesn't have the talent to coast any longer and we're getting exposed.
