Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr
hooon replied to Tim.D's topic in General
Wasn't on my radar at all but I think its a great signing. The Wings always get great value out of the goalie position. To put things into perspective, the Pens have 7 million locked up on goalies alone. The Wings have 2.75 mil. This has potential to be one of our strongest tandems in a long time. -
signed Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr
hooon replied to Tim.D's topic in General
I've always wanted a player like Tootoo, and received my share of negs for it. I like this signing. He brings energy and speed and is by far the toughest guy we have now. He has shown good offense instincts in the past, hopefully he can contribute a bit. -
3.2 million dollars for an offensively inept 4th liner? Did I miss something here...
-
Still don't see them making the playoffs.

Brunner and/or Nyquist, plus UFA (Parise, Semin, etc.) seems like a much better option than Hudler and Bert in the top 6. Having our two slowest forwards up in the top 6 definitely softened the 1-2 punch of a Datsyuk-Zetteberg center combo. Like others have said, I wouldn't be devastated to see Hudler back, but changes need to happen somewhere, and I worry that if we keep Hudler it will be at the expense of a better UFA option.

When was the last time the Wings had two right handed shooters on the same line, let alone the top line?
-
And the Jackets aren't an awfully managed franchise? Just sayin...

Woohoo central time! I get to wait an hour less than you suckers! That's how time works right...

Flip had is best season ever playing on the Wing and Zetterberg is a much better center than Filppula. Babs recently told the press he thinks Helm is the best 3rd line center in the league (don't necessarily agree, but it indicates that is where Babs will play him). The Wings are one of only a handful of teams that have the benefit of two legitimate 1st line centers pivoting the top 2 lines. I just feel like it'd be counterproductive to remove Flip from the position in which he saw the most success, and thrust him back into a position where he struggled somewhat. Moving Flip down to the third line center would only make sense if we signed several high end top 6 players, which I just don't see happening.

Really curious what this means for Malkin's next deal, wherever he signs.
-
So... Crosby just helped everyone out a little bit in terms of the Parise sweepstakes. Gonna be really hard to justify paying anyone over 9 million if that's what Crosby's making.
-
Exactly. Eberele will look great as a Red Wing in a few years.
-
Jesus no. Did you watch any of the Hawks last season? Brendan Morrison was TERRIBLE for them. Beyond terrible. He scored ZERO points for them, and that included a few games playing in their top 6 and on the PP. John Scott is even worse, and is probably the single worst hockey player in the entire league. The enormity of his frame might seem tempting, but he isn't even a great fighter, literally cannot skate, and doesn't even play all that physical. He scored a grand total of TWO points (both assists) for the Blackhawks over 2 seasons. I'd literally rather have Jason Williams and Brad May back over those two.
-
Nope. Lidstrom, yes.

I literally read a report today about how CBJ fired four of their head scouts. I wonder if this enormous failure had anything to do with it.

The Wings scored 248 goals last season, ONE goal less than the Canucks who led the conference with 249. The Kings scored 194 and the Devils 228. I don't think offense is that big of a problem (from a coaching standpoint), though I completely agree with you about the PP. Needs a ton of work, as well as the PK.
-
Can't believe Howson would turn this down. Its not like 4th overall is a bad spot to start your draft off. The Jackets could have owned the entire draft (12 or 13 total picks or something?), and they would have had a ton of leverage for some trades or trading up. Howson's idiocy is going to curse Murray into being the biggest draft bust of all time. Poor kid.

Actually, no. The Wings would still have more. And also that creates another open hole in the Pens roster and they already have twice as many players to sign than the Wings. It's really not that feasible for the Pens to do this unless they want to lose Crosby in a couple seasons.

Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans
hooon replied to evilzyme's topic in General
Why is anyone mad about what Babs said? Its not like the lines are set in stone. So he plays the first 5 games in the top 6... if he doesn't work out there, the lines WILL be shuffled. That's how Babcock works. I highly, highly doubt this means the Wings are done with forwards in free agency.- 139 replies

Abby isn't irreplaceable but he's a much better option than Emmerton for the 4th line center and as mentioned is one of the few physical forwards the Wings have. He doesn't deserve Helm money but something around 1.5 or lower would be acceptable. I'm on the fence about Quincey but the defense is so thin right now, the Wings kinda have to sign him. No more than 3.5 I hope.

Jordan Staal traded to Carolina, signs 10-yr, $60m extension
hooon replied to Salviaman's topic in General
There's no way he'd ever be a Wing. He was not looking to be a 3rd line center again. -
Interesting move for both teams. As much as I dislike Ribeiro, I think the Caps won this trade.

Incredible some of the names still on the table.
