Nice of the NHL and the city of Denver to put on such a spread and forum for all things Red Wings this weekend. See, the Avs need the Red Wings to be their playdate for something like this or they wouldn't even have an outdoor game there. Against whom? Calgary? Minnesota? New Jersey? The Wings could easily host 6 or 7 teams and have it be a huge success. Also, if I am elected president the wall around Denver just got ten feet higher and Mike Keane is paying for it!!

So, ipso facto, if the Wings, or whomever take like only TEN shots on goal, this guy is a statistical sieve. Don't shoot on net most of the time, just pass it back and forth or play the board game for no good reason = WIN!

Ok, an odd night all around. Just an odd vibe at The Rock tonight (On Star Wars night) and most of it had nothing to do with the game until the end. These people of whom I live amongst are the biggest frontrunners during a game I've ever seen. The biggest chants and cheers this year have gotten worse as they obsess over the Rangers in an old chant and have added a vulgar reference to the Flyers and rarely got emotional on much until they scored and then won. I have two questions of everyone as they happened at the other end. What the H-E-double hockey sticks was that faceoff delay call on Z? Was that a thing? Also, after the tying goal went in and it passed the high stick sniff test I couldn't see anything that looked like goaltender interference on the appeal, did I miss anything? The guy two seats over from me was an overzealous fan but in a funny kind of way. Very frustrated and after the Devils passed up several, maybe ten shooting chances on powerplays the guys was wailing "Oh shooooooot it, shoot the effing puckkkkk and turning around sounding like Jerry Stiller as Mr. Costanza and I was taken back to the night we Wings fans were losing our minds over such passed up shots chanting "Shoot the Puck!" There were a few real loudmouths, and kids, this is a tactically stupid thing to do but I digress, chanting how they had won three cups on the way out. Now, that may sound like big news to a fan of say the Panthers or Blue Jackets fans but a lot of Wings fans were pretty much snickering. This brings me to my final odd moment, after NJ scored the OT winner, and it was the only doggone goal scored in front of us all night, a woman in her 50's with short black hair reached down and tapped my shoulder and said something I couldn't hear over the victory music. I asked her to repeat what she said and she did but I still couldn't make it out but I'm guessing was her 20 something son was shaking his head at me and quietly giving me the "Don't listen to her, just let her words go I'm so embarrassed" look. I asked again and she turned around and showed me her.....are you sitting down LGW? Her #22 Claude Lemieux jersey (we wear sweaters they wear jerseys) and made some hitting motion and I made out the words "Your boy" which I could only imagine she meant Draper. OK, first off you're in the red zone like Vincent Vega warned about. Secondly your son is almost cowering (I'm a big guy). Thirdly when he hit Draper he played for Colorado. Derp. As I walked past her held up and tugged on my Wings crest and then held up my two INDEX fingers and told her "11 Cups" and we left. What happened to this woman's rape kit is inexcusable, horrifying and shameful all at once. There are really only two options, someone didn't want a local star prosecuted regardless of what came back and sent the woman a message with her kit OR they saw BAD things for Kane in the kit and destroyed it so he'd never be prosecutable (in their eyes). Either way they were beyond vindictive, one might say menacing in their actions. I'd have the FBI in their suits and down their shorts in Chicago tonight. This simply cannot happen. ever. anywhere. Thinking outloud though. If they do bring this case forward on testimony and it becomes a She said Kane said issue if I were Kane's legal team I'd be a tad worried. This woman wants no part of any settlement.

I've worked in PR much of my adult life. I'll say this (and mea culpa I think they SHOULD retire Fedorov's number as to me he met the contributions necessary on the ice and is a first ballot HOFer) unless Ken Holland went off on a rant ie off the reservation talking point, the very fact he'd address the Red Wings organeyezation is looking into retiring Fedorov's number tells me it's more likely than not to happen. They've never really felt the need to address that issue before. They sure didn't have to offer that info now. Sure the way he left was iffy but though times were different Ted Lindsay came and went and I don't want to live in a world where his number isn't retired in one building or another. I think it's more likely to happen than not based on Holland's comments, and I will have to change my signature again.

Are they better for the singings today? YES they are. More competition from the kids, more insurance for injuries. No prospects lost. Money comes and goes. So far the Wings have gotten better.

I've been watching the Devils for a few games now and Zidlicky still seems to be the only guy playing smart and playing hard on a bad team. Tonight vs Edmonton without his positioning when others were running around the Oilers could have won by 3 or 4. I like his passing. He's solid, a RIGHT HANDED shot and a free agent at the end of the year. I cannot imagine a 38 year old would cost a prime young player or anything more really than a second or third round pick, especially in NJ where a draft pick costs nothing and even a fourth line player has a salary. Thoughts?

If it's Toronto, Babcock won't win there, ie second round of the playoffs for three years at least. If they sign him it's to get a big gate boost and a big name coach in hopes of signing big name free agents.
