3/4 GDT : Rangers 1 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

I'm enjoying Rangers fan tears in my coffee this morning. Mmmmm, good to the last snivel: *Babcock and the Red Wings are the NHL's version of Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Coached meticulously to gain every legal and illegal advantage possible. The crunch-time holding/embellishing stunt from Nyquist is just classic Red Wings hockey, just like every Brady overthrown ball ends up as pass interference when the Pats receiver grabs the CB's arm and dives to the ground. *The Rangers were the better team last night. If the Wings were forced to play by the same rules as the rest of the league, that game would have been 6-1, and the Rangers would have had 60 SOG. *wings are really good at embellishing--its incredibly sickening... you can tell how inferior they are to the rangers watching them play *On another note, Detroit's system is infuriating. They commit so much interference it's maddening. Any time you try and dump and chase or use the speed to get around someone, they're stepping in your lane and making contact. Literally committing penalties the entire game, that's why I can't take any Wings fan seriously when they complain about the refs. Their team is committing holds and hooks and interference all game long. I mean, I get it especially against the Rangers, try and slow us down. But still, it's maddening. Clutch and grab era stuff. Nestle should bottle this stuff it's so tasty. RangersFansTears Hazelnut Flavor would be my favorite.

Make no mistake, when I moved out here I thought I'd always be going to see games at MSG instead of the Prudential Center. I figured I'd enjoy the company of other Original Six fans. Boy was I wrong. Entitled, snobby, loutish, and boy do Rags fans think they're at the front of every hockey discussion. Like Leafs fans with a lot less cups. And let's get down to brass tacks. In the words of Jud Heathcote, former MSU basketball coach on what he'd do to improve WIlliams Arena in Minneapolis applies equally to MSG: "Burn it down." That place stinks outloud. The seating stinks, the aisles run horizontally many of them which means people blocking your view, and the concourse is like going through a narrow tunnel. Other than the magnificent city they play in I have no idea what Rangers fans have to be arrogant about. They've retired the #9 TWICE and together they don't equal our #9. They're the weak sister of the Original Six. There, they can come grab that and say "You guys won't believe this moron on LGW!!"

I think Milbury needs some Midol. His cramping is obvious. And didn't Pierre wet himself over what good officiating it was to go over to Nash and tell them Zidlicky didn't really deserve a penalty because the Ranger player dove.

SO HAPPY for the win. Great effort. Wore my Wings sweater on my last dog walk tonight and went down to the riverwalk to show it off. The fog was amazing and I thought this pic would fit with the New York theme tonight:
  10. NJ was leading the Preds 2-1 when Nashville pulled their goalie with about 3 minutes left. With just over a minute to play Cammalleri broke in down the right side towards an empty net and was tripped as his sweeping chance laying down went wide. The referee skated over behind the net and emphatically began pointing to the back of the net. Automatic goal. NJ wins 3-1 and Nashville has lost their 4th straight.

I guess I'm saying trust me on Zidlicky, you'll like him. You'll note little smart things he does. He settles plays in his own end well. I've been watching his game over the last couple months and he does the right things at the right time.

    2/28 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Predators 3

"...and as the sun set over Nashville, Predator fans still milling around Broad Street on a Saturday night to get dinner or maybe to hopefully celebrate an anticipated victory were left with an all too familiar taste. A taste familiar as hot dogs and potato salad in summer but now imagine those hot dogs had been sitting in tepid water all day and the potato salad had a sunburn. The taste of another loss to Detroit." My entry for tonight's "Red Wings after dark" slam poetry contest

Like I suppose you can do better than going into the team with the best record's rink and TAKING a win in the third period. Most decent I must say!!

If Nashville keeps winning they will put up their first ever banner at Bridgestone Arena. Well, they did put up their OWN 7th man banner a while back but it counts not.
  17. In what secret reports are calling a clavicle/collarbone "issue" Kane could be out a while: Patrick Kane Injured, Could Be Out A Long While If you're a Chicago sports fan, you are not reading this, because there's no way you're getting out of bed today. On the same night the city realized that Derrick Rose will never ever be the same again, Blackhawks star Patrick Kane went down with an injury that could reportedly keep him out deep into the playoffs. http://deadspin.com/patrick-kane-injured-could-be-out-a-long-while-1687932200

Sounds like the New York "Islanders" are no more...

Plus public transportation (ie trains) didn't run all the way out to the Nassau County Coliseum so in the end it was a dead building walking. For out here anyway.

Sounds like the New York "Islanders" are no more...

My wife and I went to a Black Keys show there and you had the idea that yeah, it wasn't built for hockey unless they're going to stick a bunch of ugly portable seats near the ice, the side built-in seating is set waaaaay back. We walked around the place and tried to have an open mind but we both thought the Prudential Center was far superior.

They will bury that name, you watch. These logos are a Trojan Horse. Nobody going to Brooklyn to see the Islanders is going to buy an Islander-themed jersey/shirt. They all want to simply identify as Brooklyn. This is just the beginning. I'll guess the fisherman has five years left at sea. This is how they brand the Nets now on Facebook, one of their front pages to reach their fans: Not much Nets and I cannot imagine (and I work in this soulless craptastic industry of PR and advertising) the Islander logo as it is, even in new colors withstanding a long run.

How long have the Sharks been in the league? And their shark on the logo is STILL working that first stick. It's like he's not even trying.

Going To My First Wings Game - Suggestions?

Congrats!! Bring extra batteries to take pictures of the cathedral that is Joe Louis Arena. After the game I think you should make the same choice we've all made at some point, American or Lafayette Coney Island. The Post Bar is cool and some players go there after games. I saw Chris Pronger, and assorted St. Louis Blues there long ago and got to try on Jason Williams 2002 cup ring. Maltby and Draper used to hang there long ago. Oh, and if you go to Windsor Ontario you'll want to know the answers to certain questions. What is your business in Canada? The correct answer is not "To fund the revolution." Do you have any weapons? The correct answer is not "Sure, what do you need?"

Up late watching the shootout then had to be up early. Ugh. Lots to like last night and some things to dislike. A point on the road against a top western team doesn't suck but the fact we could be looking at one point either keeping us from Montreal or Tampa in the first round or missing home ice against each look no further than last night for it. I will say this, more and more I'm noticing Brendan Smith excelling at 4 x 4 situations. He really puts pressure on the forward defending him. I like that. I'd get him out there more in those spots. I have much respect for Jakob Silfverberg of Anaheim the way he approaches shootouts. He has a plan. Only three shots does he practice, top corner, like last night, low corner and five hole. No slapshots, no moves, no 5 minute attempts, from the same spot every time and he knows which one he's using before he skates at the puck. One wonders if certain Wings could learn from such a zen approach. Last night was a hard miles game, tonight will be tough.
