There have been a couple but in assessing talent the Wings aren't exactly the Islanders either...

He's a solid defensive center, strong on faceoffs (and don't think that wasn't a huge component in this trade) and can anchor a third or fourth line and score a little. Eaves is headed out on this along with a prospect (they can't find right now per TSN lol) and a 3rd I like it.

He helps for sure. A solid pro.

It would be a mistake to not make a full on press for Ehrhoff. If you can trade for him do it. He'll only take a trade to an eastern team so why let him show up in Toronto or Columbus? He's got years left on a contract that would cost the Wings very little as his contract was frontloaded. Oh what he would bring to a power-play unit. He's not going to be of any more use in 3 years when his contract is up and he's 34 than he is now. Also and it pains me to say this but free agents coming to Detroit aren't the slam dunks they once were if you're hoping to pick up someone like Ehrhoff in the summer. He wouldn't be a rental. It just makes sense to get this guy if you can

GREAT win. Great post-Olympic first game back. They played a very strong road game. They kept it simple. They played smart. Yeah the Montreal goal would hopefully be avoided but it's not about their points, it's about Detroit's points and they earned one more than the Habs tonight. I really hope this was an identity game because I liked the hard work I saw. The hustle, the smart dump ins, tight checking, good puck support. It's a sprint now to the line.
