Doesn't a #7 seed always manage to beat a #2 seed? It's like the 12 vs 5 matchup in the NCAA hoops tourney. Why not us? WHY NOT US I SAY!!!!!!!!!!! -

There's a REASON the Wings haven't missed the playoffs since 89-90. There's a REASON they're going to go to Dallas and get a point or two and keep the streak alive. The REASON is they're the Detroit Red Wings. There's a pride inside the sweater you don't always see elsewhere. I'd be stunned if they didn't win tonight. Get the Photoshop thread ready, I wanna destroy Patrick Kane

One thing that cannot be overlooked. This team really started hitting on all cylinders and doing the little things right after they got rid of Larry Murphy.

I HATE the salary cap (I detest it in ANY sport), and I do not like the shootout (too many points being awarded for not enough effort). I do like the wider-open (nice word huh?) play and I like the fact the NHL playoffs are no longer the rodeo. Kind of a mixed bag. Sooner or later that salary cap is going to bite the NHL when top players one day decide they can play abroad like the KHL where there is no cap, no income tax and it's a pretty good game. Say 2 or 3 stars did this the NHL might have to reassess how much teams can spend.

http://mashable.com/2013/04/04/hockey-player-hits-ref-with-stick/ Sam Laird1 hour ago Simmer down, man! Danielius Nomanovas just took sports tantrums to a new level of savagery. Nomanovas is a teenage hockey player, playing with the Lithuanian junior national team at the under-18 world championships in Estonia. In the closing seconds of Lithuania's group play loss to Great Britain on Wednesday, Nomonavas completely. Loses. His. Mind. Watch as he hurls his stick directly at a referee from close range, making violent contact. The ref, thankfully, does not appear seriously injured.

Courtesy of the Isles' Matt Martin. One punch, goodnight. Chico Resch breaks it down...

I'd be interested in picking up Pominville. Past that there's not a lot out there being dangled I'd want to give up too much for. He could add some pop to the right side and when and if everyone is healthy it'll keep guys hopping to get in the lineup. I agree with Holland that they have plenty of depth on defense, enough for whatever playoff run may happen. That being said I'd almost stand pat with this roster and this farm system. Things are going to open up BIG TIME this offseason with the allowed buyouts. Perhaps more teams from the west with players who would fit would be more likely to trade with the Wings when they have gone east. I love my Red Wings and it is because of this I'll give them a reset on this abortion of a 48 game season if they lose in the first round or even miss the playoffs. The heavy lifting where this franchise will be built starts in July.

And a damned nice guy. Happy 85th today Gordie! Had the privilege of meeting him briefly in the concourse at the Joe one evening. I'll never ever forget that moment. (Sorry, got excited about Gordie and then found the other one from a couple days back. my bad)

Jarome Iginla, hockey's version of The Cooler -
Watching the game on CBC on the NHL network and they have a sad right now.

Luongo is having Nam flashbacks if by Nam you mean Chicago.

Does the ref get a secondary assist on the goal at 6 seconds for dropping the puck to start the game?
-
Yeah let's not trade a guy in the running for a Norris trophy. If you traded him then you'd just have to trade for a guy to replace him.

GDT 3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

I hereby move that Jonathan Ericsson's NEW nickname be "Depends" until he finally stops pissing all over himself with the puck at crunch time. He did it in overtime too. Just layed the puck out for anyone behind his own net. Do I hear a second? -

GDT 2/15 GDT : Anaheim Ducks 5 at Red Wings 2

It's games like this that make me wish I could write the headline for either the News or the Free Press for tomorrow: "Wings Play Like Ass, Fall to Ducks 5-2" -
I'd throw in Fedorov's goal in game 7 vs Colorado in the WCF in 2002 to make it 2-0 on this list.
-
The fact it eeked over the line helped build the sound I think. We should reminisce about our favorite goals that never made it to the back of the net.

3 wins in 4 days is BOSS. 6 points in the bank out of 6. Not bad with a pretty full infirmary.

When Homer arrived I heard he called himself the 'Demolition Man' and I was quite skeptical. You're gonna have to PROVE that I thought to myself. Well here we are all these years later and boy did he ever prove it. Holmstrom's legacy will be that whenever someone plays close to his style or takes abuse out front of the net to score a goal they'll be called a "Holmstrom type player" and that is high praise indeed having your own style. Rest your body Homer, it's too bad the fans couldn't have bought you a nice La-Z-Boy as a going away present. I think it'd be hilarious if not against fire codes if they put a big bronze Homer statue blocking one of the doors at the Gordie Howe entrance at JLA.

Holland has only traded two roster players since 2002

Dave, how are we supposed to win tickets if you give us the answers? -
They've lost the last of my goodwill. I will go see the Wings at MSG (Screw you Devils and your revenue sucker and one of the 9-10 reasons for the lockout Vanderbeek) and watch them on Center Ice wherever I live and yes I'll pay for it this season but that's it. Dear NHL, there will be no more spending on this (Game 3 ECF last year and baby I splurged): I might go see the odd Rangers playoff game but then again they didn't just cause this mess either. They crap gold bricks with their TV deal. I mean they paid Wayne Gretzky AND Mark Messier and still lost to Eric Lindros. Their answer? 1994!!! Oh and crap more gold bricks...

Oh, and I've been saving this for months. Carlo Colaiacovo, plan the parade route!!
