The streak is over, let's all be adults about this. This is ONE case where looking back on a generation (no, a real generation so says science) of titles, records, player awards, famous fights, tragic incidents, retired numbers, along with the losses of Gordie and Mr. I, et al. is worthwhile. Let's celebrate today Besides the winning of the cups, what are your favorite five or most impressionable memories from THE STREAK? (John Belushi from SNL as "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave")

Brendan Smith traded to Rangers for 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2017) Round Draft Picks
Jersey Wing replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
Let's find out what Rangers fans think of the deal thus far: guess i'll reserve judgement until i see him play. I do like the mean streak trait though. definitely something we need for the playoffs. 2nd and a third in two different years....meh, deadline deals seemingly rarely are steals for the buyers in recent years. Totally a knee jerk move b/c of Caps getting Shattenkirk giving up a 2nd/3rd round pick. More of a measured response to the fact some of our D-men are bad. Detroit seems to be over the moon about this. Never a good sign. Washington loads up with Shattenkirk. We get... Brendan Smith. Cool not pleased with this deal. hopefully he has some impact didn't really see the need for a LHD tho If we unloaded 2 seconds for this guy I will lose my **** Such an odd trade. People seem to be either over the moon or not liking it.I'm in the "Not so good" camp, but I hope I'm wrong. Won't mind eating crow. I just don't see that value. He shores up our bottom 3 d-men. That's about it -

I wish this had been done 2-3 years sooner. I'd made mentions as such but I'm not trying to be I told you so on this. I just wish, instead of limping into first round matchups in which they were overmatched (in the first round no less) they'd have let the streak go. The best part of that plan would be going into the new Arena they'd be hopefully well on the upswing not bookending the bad years at the beginning of JLA with one last stinker of a year. Ah well, it is what it is here today and I hope (like the Smith trade) they can do well and bank some young talent to go with a nice group of youngsters to build around. But let's not take 15 years of top picks like Edmonton to get back on top.

Thank you Mr. I. This city and fans will never be able to properly repay your investment in the city, it's teams and it's fans. It goes beyond hockey or baseball. When GM and Chrysler went bankrupt and the world was laughing at Detroit you proudly put all the Big 3 logos out in centerfield to show the world right back, Detroit is ONE, win lose draw or otherwise. He loved his city and did something about that.

Coreau has given me a reason to watch. Probably some of that wisdom I yelled out in Marquette's Lakeview Arena all those years ago echoed around until it somehow found it's way into his head. What? It could happen.

OK, didn't see the game for a couple reasons. #1 it wasn't on here except for NHL Center Ice which now for the 4th year I refuse to buy because I can see NYC out my front window but I can't Center Ice in hi def. Oh, I can get it in standard def but I'll also have the benefit of paying the same price as those who do get hi def in their markets. Thus I REALLY appreciate the game day threads gang, I can get a feel for what is truly happening w good analysis. Also, an.857 save % is no way to go through life. -

Signed Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

Gus, you should be nervous with Vanek here now. Have a friend who's a Blues fan, he's listening online to their sports talk radio and they realize Larkin isn't coming for Shattenkirk but he's hoping for Nyquist if that gets done. -
Signed Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit
Jersey Wing replied to Jedi's topic in General
OK, Mr. Salient here. A week ago everyone loved Holland for dumping the Datsyuk contract into the Arizona desert never to be heard from again. Probably eaten by dingos. The fact they had any money to get a good quality player (yes he's a solid #2 center and hey, would you look at that he can still wear #51) is partially due to the contract dump. Give Kenny a break. No, he didn't sign a player to put the Wings over the top. Know how many GM's in the NHL put themselves over the top with the players available today? Zero. Lucic in Edmonton, LOL Mongo pleeeeeeease. If you're mad at Holland for the money, that set itself up in the previous years of treading water and not being a destination hotspot anymore. That's why you have to pay more to get good players and incredible amounts for great ones. Becoming a slave to the streak and keeping it alive has cost the Wings and it showed again today. There may be more help on the way...
