With cap space to clear, do Flyers become a Wings trade partner?
Motown4013 replied to Yzerfan1999's topic in General
I understand how this works...i just agree with number 9 here that they have enough D to shore up one for some cash and give how the first 4 years are going to kill Philly with the Weber contract (if Nash doesnt match) they will need to free up some space. Thats how I see it......time will tell -

Did you actually just say that here is zero chance Couturier gets traded? This from a GM who makes Ritchie a captian and inks Carter to a long term deal only to turn around and send both of them packing for easy breezy? You trust or can forsee anything this guy does??? In terms of LTIR....two years is much different than 5 to carry a salary...and the money is very different between lappy and Pronger....they aren't even comparable AND they still only have 22 forwards signed. As it's already been pointed out, who are they gonna make a healthy scratch on D? The newly acquired Schenn is gonna sit? Mezaros maybe...I don't think so. We will see what happens but expect more weirdness from the Philly brass. -
I <3 Edstrom. Love this kid! There are a ton of potentials next year but as stated above, the list dwindles as players and agents want to get things in order before July 1st

if the LTIR is over and his salary counts for Pronger now, they will have to move more than 1 piece. Weber is a premiere d-man....you dont sign a player like that without parting ways with some key guys and Holmgren is not afraid to blow it up and send away op of the line pieces ( Ritchie and carter last year for Bryz) I can see Timonen going and a guy like Couterier or Simmonds. it just seems like he is never happy....he has to have the newest guy, the biggest story, the best of the best. Maybe he has a small...umm...nevermind -

Actually, if Webers salary is 14 million per, for the first 4...how can Philly be under the cap? Even if it breaks down as Dreger suggests, the NHL still has to okay the term and the salary. I wonder if this would be denied due to the unprecidented terms involved? Man, the CBA will be looking to this contact big time. Salary max and crazy term. What happens if its declined? Do the Flyers still retain Webers rights or is he a RFA? -

on a salary dumps, they are looking for picks and prospects...not more players they need to pay. Our roster would remain virtually the same Id think. -

Having less than a million is pretty scary......someone gets hurt through the year and they are kinda screwed. I imagine they wont want to be up against the wall. I think they will send someone out to give themselves some breathing space. Timonen does have a NMC as does Coburn BUT its not like the players would accept a trade Columbus. Most guys, knowing their top dog status is dwindling in Philly would waive it to play with the Wings. -

Actually this is a distinct posibility. Not very many teams have enough cap space to take a contract that Philly may need to dump. Along with Coburn and Timonen (who would be a nice presence here) there are a few forwards that I wouldnt mind seeing. How much harder and grittier does Detroit become with a Hartnell? I hate that guy...which means Id love to see him be an ahole to everyone else. Whats the offensive upside of young Matt Read? How about Couturier? This opens up a ton of possibilities! -
Really? Let me guess, you are advocating for Holland to re-sign Hasek too?

Signed Red Wings re-sign Quincey: 2-years, $7.55m total, $3.775/yr

Q is a better defenseman than he showed us last year. I think this is a good signing! -
Red Wings make "helluva" offer for Nash, no response
Motown4013 replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Its unbelievable to me that this asspick still has a job. The Jackets ARE NOT going to get a "Rich Nash" in the trade...they simply have to aquire the best set of players and move on. Nash can't go back there and play again. The fans are disgruntaled and Nash is a goat. The organization hung him out to dry when they "let it slip" that he would be open to a trade ( remember it was Howson that went to Nash and asked if he would waive his NMC...not Nash initiating) This guy has already made a huge mess of the hockey team and of this situation...the best thing to do is to get some assets in return and move on. The only reason he is in a tough spot is because he put himself there. -
Should Pav and Z play on the same line for the majority of this season
Motown4013 replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
I like it on the PP but not at even strength anymore. They dont seemt o have the chemistry they once did ( but thats because Babs always seems to screw with the lines) I like Hank with Flip and Pavs with Mule. They need some help here but each had chemistry with the other...especially Hank and Flip! -
Green would be risky for us given his style of play and being injury prone BUT id rather spend the money and get some help on the back end than sit around with a ton of cap space and Kindl hanging out back there. I am actually not surprised that Green rejected the offer. He was a norris finialist and even if he ISN'T worth the Caps offer, he knows that there are teams in the NHL right now that need a respectable defenseman. Both Myers and Suter got 12 million....Both HIGHLY overpaid contracts.....so maybe he wants to see whats out there.

Doug Janik signs with Adler Mannheim, DEL (germany)
Motown4013 replied to germanwing's topic in General
I always liked Janik...Came in, was steady and never whined about his role. Best of luck to Doug and his family in Germany! -
Not saying he didn't. He was absolutely dominant BUT I think its a different game. With small ice, the passes need to be crisper, the plays quicker. You get hit more and have less time to react. Its just a different game. You cant comapre them. I like the Brunner signing but honestly, we have NO idea how he is going to react to the NHL game......I hope he kicks azz (obviously) but until he adjusts, who knows. Also, just your point on Sammy...again, the career year came while playing between the Sedins. ANYBODYS PPG goes up playing the ham in the Sedin sandwich...just sayin'
-
Not to beat a dead horse but offensively, Hudler is a better point producer than Sammy and Brunner is unproven. You can look his success in other leagues because it never translated to NHL standard so saying they are both an upgrade is BS. That has yet to be seen. Both of these players are ubgrades over Homer who is playing on the FOURTH line, but neither is as good on the powerplay. Say what you like about the demolition man, but he was the best net screeners ever and build for the PP> TooToo is a good addition but he has ONE year that he had 30 pts on the 3rd/ 4th line so again, its unproven as to whether this increases offense or not. I like the additions Holland has made BUT it impossible to say we got better, especially with Brunner. Big ice, different speed, different league....not even comparable.
-
I think we haven't locked semin up because I truly believe we are seriously IN on Nash. It just seems that that idiot Howsen has to trade Nash and several sources, including TSn have reported we are on the short list. I doubt that Holland wouldn't try to sign a big boy...it's the only way to keep his job I think.
-
Really? You think Kubina is worth 20 goals? Semin 30 goals, Doan 20 goals......hmmmm, your math is bad bro!

Why would we ever want to deal with Wiz? The guy is an Ahole. He has a ridiculous contract. He doesn't like Detroit and has said so publicly. He also is a classless player who loves a cheap shot. No thanks.I'd rather put my faith in the guys who wear the winged wheel proudly.

Imagine Kenny thought he was getting Suter and offered him something lower. There is nothing wrong with saying " I don't think that is fair market value" and filing for arbitration. He just wants to be paid what he is worth....if Harrison gets 6million a year, Q will probably get around 4. He is a better defenseman than he showed us last year so hopefully this all works out. I think Abby will move on.with the signing of Too Too, Abs lost anything unique he offers this team.

Well said. I too have been a Big E supporter and feel like he really can emerge into a great D man! Thanks for posting!

Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild
Motown4013 replied to Liquidsnake's topic in General
If you think its only Holland's decision, you are wrong. The owners, especially Mr and Mrs. I would be in the loop of whats happening with their club. To say that his job is to DO and not try is ridiclous. He cant FORCE anyone here. There were 20 teams that made offers to these guys. He made a solid pitch but in the end, the farm boy in Wisconsin and the hometown Minnasota player decided on a different city. It isnt ALWAYS about money.....maybe they like the city more. Maybe they wanted to be the C and assistant C. Hundreds of things factor into a 13 year decision. No one was more disappointed than I was when i read Suter had decided on Minny but the Wings brass aggressively went after Suter and in the end SUTER decided to go someplace else. Holland did his job. -
Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr
Motown4013 replied to Tim.D's topic in General
I like this signing!! Welcome to Detroit Monster -
I watch the game so I know what he brings. I also know that he is not well liked because he took a payday to go to Russia and that did not sit well with most ppl. I too thought it was crappy BUT I don't let that overshadow what I think of him as a hockey player. People make him sound awful n the boards and do not give him credit. He is not a lazy player...he can be tentative but he is not lazy. For a small man, he has very good vision on the ice and he has a good shot and for the price, I don't think there is a better bargain than Hudler. Telling me he doesn't have any grit does not explain why he is the goat for this team or explain the hate ppl have for the guy. If he goes someplace else with DECENT teammates, Hudler will put up 60 plus points easy. I wish him the best
