Gordie Howe has passed away. 1928-2016.

Aww... he does look as sad as can be. Poor guy. Tomorrow is going to really be rough for him, he's going to be one of Gordie's pallbearers. I just have to say, the Detroit Red Wings are without a doubt the most classy, most respectful and simply the best hockey club in the NHL.

Gordie Howe has passed away. 1928-2016.

great picture, such a sad time, though. I had to quit peeking at stuff on Facebook while I am at work, it makes me tear up... no one here at my job would understand why I am sad. RIP, Mr. Hockey.

Bad News... Dave Strader diagnosed with cancer

2016 sucks so far... all the best to Dave Strader. I always enjoy his broadcasts, so knowledgeable and unbiased. Get well quick, Dave. Send a get well, encouragement note to: WellWishesForStrader@dallasstars.com http://stars.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=885935&navid=DL|DAL|home

Gordie Howe has passed away. 1928-2016.

I already named it that in my head... I will be attending games at The Gordie, for sure. It would be awesome if the corporation would step up and re-name the arena in Mr. Hockey's honor.

Gordie Howe has passed away. 1928-2016.

I have not seen this confirmed anywhere else. If true, I am happy Gordie got a second chance with the medical treatments he received, and got to enjoy a little quality time with his family -- and got to witness how much Hockeytown fans love him at his birthday at the Joe.
  6. Murdering an endangered animal (captive mountain gorilla) because someone cannot watch their kid is not bad enough. Now the zoo is being sued - there's a shocker - for negligence. I give up.
  7. Have you seen the performance and his joy in playing at home, in the photos from Worlds? I haven't seen him look that happy or play that well in years. I would say he's a good as gone. I am grateful for the years we've had with Datsyuk, and wish him well. I am pleased that he was always and ever a Red Wing, regardless of what he decides to do with his life and his talents.

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2016/05/11/detroit-red-wings-iihf-gustav-nyquist/84243418/ GusGus with a hat trick for Sweden. Back to back goals in the second, and a shortie in the third. Five goals and one assist for six points after four games. Apparently he don't love us this much??

Doug Houda hired as an assistant coach

I can't wait. Apparently, the new rule is an all-bald coaching staff? Semi-hairless.... OK, then

    Kentucky Derby: Nyquist

Good, now people can say something nice about Nyquist for a change. He's blowing things out in Europe, too -- the one on skates, not the horse.

Kris Letang Facing NHL suspension hearing.

Pens fans are claiming it's all because he's a Penguin and the league hates the team. Seriously? Who do they think they are? Red Wings fans? LOL~~

    Calder finalists

You all beat me to it, but Larkin wasn't a candidate because he's not the #1 draft pick and the NHL wants McDavid to win. That's about all there is to that story.

    Official - Little Caesars Arena

My two-cents, for what it's worth: yes, the very wealthy Illitch family can name "their" arena anything they want. It's what weathy people do, a lot. They name big garish buildings after themselves, in spite of the fact that the big fancy building was built on the backs of tons of lower caste people who dedicated their working lives to creating that funds that made the big fancy building possible. Do I think they care for the franchise and the players as people -- yes, I do believe that. I've seen the family treat players like their own family plenty of times when things got rough for a player. This is a two-edged sword. Without the fans buying pizza (never had it, but hear it's bad, or good, depending on who you ask), and fans to pay a LOT for game tickets for decades on end -- the Illitches would not be quite so wealthy. That said, I believe the fans and people of Detroit should have a vote in what the new arena is called. Or, at the very least, have the right to protest if they think the new name is stupid. Personally, I would have really liked to see the new arena named Gordie Howe Arena. It would have been respectful, very fitting and I suspect NO ONE would have said anything other than -- well done!! Honor the franchise which contributed heavily to the wealth -- pizza was part of it... not all of the story. I would have been so proud to say "I've been to The Gordie," to see my Wings. Now, I will just say, glad I got to see the new Red Wings Arena. That's what it will be called in my feeble little fan brain.

    New arena construction updates

Arena! Arena! I wanted it to be Gordie Howe Center, so we could all go to The Gordie for games... oh well

    Dan Boyle Curses Out Reporters

I wouldn't mind an little more emotion from the Wings. Dan Cleary was the last guy in the room who would stare down a question and deal with it. Shanny before him. Soft questions from reporters make for boring, mumbling, cookie-cutter interviews - the hallmark of an NHL post-game locker room media scrum. I don't actually blame Boyle for getting irritated, in this case.

Yes, thank you stinky Blues for beating the horrible Horks. Happy birthday to me...

WCQF : Chicago Blackhawks vs. St. Louis Blues

watch Donuts end up in Detroit. God help us, but he wouldn't put up with locker room laziness... Wings will have to learn how to be thugs, though. Blues have to find their game and stop the Horks. Please.

    The person below me game...

Yes, when I was a kid. I shot my brother right between his eyes... I told him to move, it was his fault. TPBM prefers plain M&Ms to the other varieties.

    The person below me game...

Considerably shorter, but not short - 5'7" I've always thought it would be fun to be really tall, though. The person below me still looks that this site every day, and will all summer -- October is a long way off.

    The person below me game...

even if they are on the list, yes.... the person below me put things in the car the night before, so they don't forget to put them in as they leave for work
  24. Wings couldn't muster even ONE goal. I assume no one is really surprised? I am not, anyway. I really thought they would bring it home one more game, but seriously -- they had so many chances in this game and didn't take advantage. They are clearly ready for a nice long summer at home and plenty of golf. As for me, October is too far away to even contemplate. I may not still be alive by then, who knows? Have a nice retirement/KHL second career, Pasha.
