Think he would sign on in Detroit as Howie's backup? Yeah, probably not.

Howson thinks he's trading Gretzky with what he's been asking for evidently. If he were to trade Nash to the Wings, that price would go up to the equivalent of some weird Gretzky/Howe/Orr love child. No thanks...

My guess is that Don Cherry will be the first to announce the date

It's pretty much expected that the rule that allowed for Schultz to do this will be taken care of in the new CBA.
-
No, technically that's not correct. Three scenarios for you involving teams reaching out to Schultz about playing for them. Two would be tampering, one is not. Keep in mind, Anaheim's exclusive rights to Schultz expired on Sunday the 24th: Scenario #1: Team A reaches out to Schultz and/or his agents in March & points out a specific clause in the CBA that might benefit him. That clause being, if he remains unsigned four years after he was drafted, the team who drafted him loses his rights, he becomes a UFA, and can sign anywhere he wants. Schultz then, who is already having positive conversations with the Ducks about signing & making his debut with the team once Wisconsin's season is over, shuts down & refuses to sign with them. Scenario #2: Team B, knowing that Schultz is taking advantage of said clause though not having discussed it with him or his agents before, decides to call him up in May to let him know they would like to talk about him coming to their team. Scenario #3: Team C calls up Schultz's agents on Monday, June 25th, which is the first time they've had contact with the Schultz camp, to express their interest in officailly signing him on July 1st. And if you chose Scenario #3 as not tampering, you win a prize. WIll Anaheim still file a claim with the commissioner's office in that last scenario? Sure they will but claim =/= actual tampering. It could play out that there was a team that tipped off Schultz's camp to the loophole but he ends up not signing with that team, for example it was Burke in Toronto that tipped them off but he ends up signing with the Canucks. Anaheim better have a pretty good idea who that other team is if they think they have a chance in hell of proving tampering happened in a case like that.
-
No, Anaheim will claim tampering. Doesn't mean whoever signs him will actually be found guilty by the commissioner's office. For that to happen, they'll have to find a paper trail showing that whoever he does sign with are the ones that alerted him/his agents to the loophole in the CBA that allowed him to pull off this move and/or evidence they were talking contracts with them before he officially became a UFA. Pretty tall task that.

And there's a valid reason why Calgary obviously wasn't concerned about his poor play in the playoffs this year.

Sadly it's probably more like: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal

I can't think of the details specifically off the top of my head, but wasn't there someone who had their rights traded 2 times within a couple of days last June because he wouldn't sign with the first team that traded for them? Think one of the teams was Buffalo for some reason. edit: Christian Ehrhoff to the Islanders & then to Buffalo maybe? Of course Garth Snow would have to be involved.

That's where the rumors of them shopping Jay Bouwmeester come into play.

Just don't make it a round of golf with Murph & all the dollar dogs that HE can carry.
-
Highway robbery? Maybe something like the rights to Hudler, all the $1 hotdogs you can carry, & Karen Newman's home phone number? Get 'r done Kenny!

So if Wideman is worth $5.25m a year, what is Suter going to be worth?

To give everyone something to talk about other than free agency... I think it's pretty clear that Shanny gets the call this afternoon on his first HoF ballot. Since that's the first step to have your jersey retired in Hockeytown, what's everyone's thoughts on whether he gets that honor too? Personally, I don't think he gets his jersey in the rafters of the Joe or whatever the new arena is called when it opens. If he had stuck around & retired as a Wing, I think he still would have been a long-shot but once he left for New York in 2006, that shot disappeared. Discuss....

The Chelios kids have been attending those for the last few years. I think Nill's kid even did for a couple as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if that, plus how he basically forced his way into a trade when he was in Hartford, entered its way into the conversation. Plus there's speculation that he never got along all that well with Scotty (who did really?) who is on the committee. Ultimately though, we'll never know the true reasons.

Steve Ott - anyone interested in getting him?
ogreslayer replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Something the Wings don't have is that guy that other teams & other teams fans just loathe. A guy that gets under your skin even before he steps on the ice. I wouldn't mind having Ott as that guy on the Wings at all if the price were right. They could use someone that will get the other team off their game again...like a douchier/edgier Maltby like I said before. -

Kind of a much douchier/edgier version of Maltby imo. If the price were right, sure. I just wonder if he was a 50 goal scorer in juniors. -
Just saw that Scotty & Igor are actually on the selection committee. And still Shanny doesn't get in? What the????

I'm sensing another Will Arnett video on the horizon.

Not "to Colorado" really since he was already there.
-
That is shocking. On a lighter note, I wonder if he's going to suspend the voting committee now?

The saddest thing is that the combined roster would probably still end up missing the playoffs.

Well if Ekland is mentioning it....there's no chance in hell it will ever happen. I would much rather see what some of the youngsters in GR could do on the big club instead.
