If you’re referring to hoping we win the draft lotto; that only effects the first round. The rest of the rounds go by the standings. So if the sens finish in last but we win the lotto, their second rounder would still be pick 32.

With all the talk of cap space and Larkin, Mantha, & AA needing new contracts, I thought their next contracts would make for a good discussion. What do you think these guys will get? All bridge deals? Could you see any taking less money to sign a longer term? I don’t think they’re quite at the point of getting big long term contracts, since they’re all RFA, but I guess ya never know. I would say probably bridge deals for all three but it’d be awesome if we could somehow manage to lock at least one up to a team friendly long term contract, of course.

I’d be for Raanta, but it sounds like the coyotes want to sign him before he hits free agency and he seems to like it there. Obviously nothing is guaranteed until the contract is signed but I think he’ll end up staying. He’s been solid for them.

Just needs two more in potentially up to 18 games. I don’t know the health status of their other goalies but I like his chances.

He’s also getting paid more than he should because Buffalo is desperate and could not afford to lose him. I’m sure they justify it by what people think he can do. He does have 166 points in 197 games so far though (around a point per game this year), playing for some bad teams. I’m not the biggest Eichel fan by any means and I’m not defending handing him that contract, that’s a lot of money. But it’s not unrealistic to think he could live up to it, imo. They just need to get some talent around him.

I think they wanted Marleau and Thornton back but just on one year deals. Thornton was cool with it, Marleau wanted term so he left. But yeah I’m just speaking strictly from a cap space perspective. Without looking too much into it, I’m pretty sure they’d have no problem moving Couture and/or Pavelski to wing. I think they’ve spent time there before?

Oh yeah, I agree 100%. And to be successful in this league, you have to take advantage of those types of opportunities.. and I’m glad we did, as much as I like Tatar.

My thoughts with our first pick are: if we get second or third, we take Svech or Tkachuk. Otherwise, best defenseman available. Best defense available for Vegas, and our two seconds too, if we get Svech or Tkachuk. If we get a defenseman with our first, I think a center with one of the next three picks makes sense. McIsaac at Vegas’ pick sounds great. I feel like I keep seeing his name more and more.. he could climb up in the draft or be a late first steal. Jett Woo seems like he may climb a little more too.. I think he’d be a good target with Vegas’ pick too.
