trade Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars
TheXym replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I'm liking this trade more and more. I think he is going to mesh well and be rejuvenated in the Winged Wheel. I know he has a cup, but I'm still seeing a lot of parallels to Dallas Drake. -
Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Quincey has that bone spur issue - they may give him some time to alleviate it. Smith-Kronwall, DeKeyser-Marchenko, Zidlicky-Ericsson could be interesting pairings. Kronwall-Zidlicky on the PP would be effective, I think. -

That was one of the all-time best drunk posts on the forum. On topic: I like the Zidlicky signing. Not too costly, and, more importantly, we keep our high end prospects. I agree that it is a band-aid fix, not a long-term solution. I think he will help the PP more than a lot of people think. -
Rangers gave up a lot to get Yandle. From what I've read, Duclair is Mantha/Larkin level potential who lit it up with Domi at the WJC. John Moore I'm meh on, but he has potential still. Plus, a 2015 2nd and a 2016 first. We could have matched or beaten that, but no thanks.

Awesome to see Mrazek open up a can of whoop ass on the goaltending stats. Good for him. If anything, I think his run in Detroit both gave him confidence as well as helped him grow since he did get lit up a couple times, albeit with enough run support to help him out.

I was surprised by this, as I thought Dallas would resign him since he had good chemistry with Spezza. I liked Janmark as a prospect, but I think he is a C+/B- level prospect with upside. Backman, as others have said, likely burned his bridges and isn't much of a loss as he wasn't going to make the big show in Detroit. I think it was a fair trade with a big early advantage for the Wings if he stays healthy. I also agree with the Dallas Drake analogy. Kenny has done well with this one. -
R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy. Somebody should photoshop Helm's head on Sulu or another helmsman (NOT Wesley Crusher in TNG, Darren can grow facial hair) with Zetterberg in the captain's chair with the caption "Helm, engage" for posting when he scores.

One thing that I think we sometimes lose sight of is that our boys play against some damn good opponents, and, despite their best efforts, they aren't always going to contain them. It isn't often that a team is going to get manhandled for a full 60 minutes. Heck, even when the boys are playing awesome, a fluke goal or a bad kick off the boards coupled with their goalie standing on his head or just getting lucky or a ticky-tack call can swing things. I'm very pleased that they can recover and salvage wins or at least loser points as well as they have. I'm a huge advocate of, when your opponent is down and reeling, stomping on their throat with your skate to finish them to avoid them getting back into it. In the past, the "old wings" seemed to ease up far too much with a two goal lead. Somebody who has more archival footage and time could probably do a comparison, but it seems like this season, it's either a fluke play or a ticky-tack call that lets the bad guys back into it, or they just make a couple of darn good plays, rather than our boys easing up like it seemed in the past. Unlike the past, this year, they have a bit of the "eye of the tiger" to fight back whereas it felt like they were more prone to fold in the past.

Wheelz on the tank? I mean, they pulled off a win against the top team in the league, showed resiliency by coming back after losing the lead, and have been the best in the league at doing so. Racking up 9 points of 12 on a road trip that on paper made many think could bury the Wings or at the very least throw a big wrench into things. I understand the frustration at blowing the leads, but I'm sure Babcock and company are addressing it. I'd be much more concerned if they weren't showing the resiliency. Officiating in which the only consistency is it's poor quality doesn't help. There are a LOT of things to be excited about win this team. I actually look at the comeback capabilities of this team as a good sign for the postseason wars.

Nashville Predators to Host Alumni Game vs. Detroit Red Wings

Anybody got news on this? -
Better to win or lose with dignity.

9 points out of 12 on a road trip many thought could bury the Wings. Even without Hank for most of it. If they show up for the opening bell every game, they can do some damage in the postseason. I'd like Kenny to make a trade IF it helps and doesn't thin our prospect pool for a lower tier rental. I DON'T want a trade for the sake of making a trade.

I bet Jamie McClellan gives him big ups in his TSN blog for it. (He gave Mule a two hander to the abs)

Get tha Wheelz on tha tank!!!1!!

Douchebag Neal hits Smith in the head. Score another PP, guys.
-
Lol at Mickey. "Oh, they decided to call it." They're playing Rush on the arena PA - I thought the game was in Nashville, what's up with that? Convert this PP! Cue Bungholio. Tatar!!!
-
Even Toronto's?
-
LOL, Marchenko rocking the Alfalfa hair thru his helmet.
-
What's the short recap on what I missed? I'm guessing we went up 2-0 then some ticky-tack calls led to the deficit.
-
Just got in for the phantom call on Smith and the dive (at least they called the embellishment). Marchenko!!!

Thanks for the replies!

TSN says we drew first blood and it was Smith fed by Weiss and Miller. glad to see they got one by Rinne early. Looks like Smith has recovered from the slew foot. Back on the road now, hopefully the boys get a few more before I get home. I should be able to catch part of the third. Let's Go Wings!

On the way home from region chorus (I got a kid into states!!!) and hitting Starbucks for caffeine and to check the score. What is the short recap? Btw, great GDT - the volleyball for Wilson was a great touch.
