As far as the Helm vs. Miller discussion goes I say let them both walk. Use the cap you save on a player that actually helps the team and fill their roles with the younger guys trying to make the team.

Hmm I hope it goes up for at least this season with the Datsyuk situation. After this year we can deal with it freezing or going down.

I believe putting down 5.5 mill for Datsyuk's cap hit is assuming that if we do move his contract, we would prolly have to eat a portion of it.

I personally don't see him as more of a 3rd liner. I don't think he will ever have the opportunity in Detroit to get those minutes to prove himself. He would really benefit from being traded to a team he would have more of an opportunity with. Which is why I'd love if he was packaged in a deal for a defenseman. Too many prospects on the Wings are passing him and there are limited roster spots.

If you are an NHL caliber player you will make due with whatever chances you are given. AA didn't get the ice time he deserved and still managed to leave a mark on just about every game he played. Jurco was barely noticeable when he was on the ice.

I agree. He has been given so many chances to make an impact and has never come to fruition. He is just eating up space for another guy to come up and try to make an impact and make the team. I would love if we traded him in a package for a defenseman.

It's a good trade for both sides. Florida gets some defensive depth and losing a 6th is nothing because they have never been good at drafting and developing late round players. Kindl was nothing to us and we are known for drafting and developing late round players.

Jensen hasn't been given a proper opportunity because the organization doesn't think he is better than the current D-man and Ouellet/Marchenko. He will prolly end up a career AHLer.

I think the first round of the 2014 draft will be one of the most exciting in years. Will the first overall pick be traded? Will Detroit keep their 15th overall pick or use it to get a top 4 defenseman or top 6 forward? There is a lot of lead up to this years draft and I'm sure it won't disappoint. I hope the Wings use this pick to lure a player from another team. It's a weak enough draft that I'm not as torn as usual for trading it way. Can't wait till 7pm ET!

Now the Wings can sign Franson for 4 mill,and trade Ericsson for a 4th rounder and kindl for a 7th.

I thought Mantha was going to be the exception to the rules with how people were talking about him in the organization last summer. Now with Larkin, the organization has actually come out on record saying they would like to give him a shot to make the team. Something I haven't ever really heard with the Holland administration. I truly believe if he lights it up with GR then he will get a stint in the NHL this season. But I don't see him being anything near a regular unless he some how makes a quick transition to the NHL. Alot to ask of a 19 year old.

I don't agree with this. Ouellet and Marchenko were both solid when they were called up last year. And although a veteran like quincey might be better in the short term, both those guys need playing time with the big boys to see just how good they really are. We will never know what we have if we don't play them and we will never play them with quincey and/or kindl on the team. I think Ollie or Marchenko should be in the lineup every night and both should get their chances.

Yea I agree quincey needs to be traded. He actually had a solid year for us but we need Marchenko or Ouellet playing full time. Kindl is expensive to be a 7th defenseman but still provides us a little depth in case someone gets hurt.

Ugh...why are these teams in the east getting these great deals? First Columbus, now washington. The metro is gonna be crazy tough now.
