There's no guarantee Shattenkirk would sign with us after the trade though, and then we lose a lot of quality assets for what? A month of Shattenkirk? No thanks. And really, why would this years top free agent want to sign with a rebuilding team? I think regardless where he is traded at the deadline he will test free agency this summer, which is exactly why teams are so reluctant to pay such a high price for a rental.

Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder
krsmith17 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I think it's a lot more likely that Jurco turns it around in Chicago, than anything in the 85-90 range becoming an impact NHLer. Jurco never did get a legit shot here and he likely never would, so I guess in that sense it's a good trade. I just wish as a rebuilding team we would trade off some of the older players, not the 24 year old kid... -

Love Jurco, wish he was given more of an opportunity in Detroit. I think he will prove to be well worth the pick for Chicago. -
Yes I am "for real". I see a ton of potential in him, so yes that would lead ME to believe 30 points is attainable.
-
If he gets regular ice time, I don't think 30 points next year is at all out of the question. Kid has the skill, just needs the opportunity. I think the Hawks are smart enough to give him that opportunity.
-
Not going to lie, really disappointed to lose Jurco. I think he will do really well in Chicago. Good Luck Jurco!

I'm okay with this. I don't think he has been as amaze-balls as some here seem to think. I'd like to either sign another guy on a cheap, one year contract, similar to Vanek and hope he exceeds expectations, and flip him at the deadline for pick(s) / prospect(s), or just go full on youth movement. Regardless, Vanek MUST be traded at the deadline to the highest bidder.
-
Nah, I wouldn't do it unless we can offload both Ericsson and Howard. Otherwise, I'd let another team overpay for him...
-
I personally wouldn't offer him anything more than what Green is currently making, maybe tack on a couple extra years... $30M over 5 years...
-
The problem with that is, it would have to be a sign and trade, and those rarely happen. Unless he is under contract beyond this season, I want no part of a trade involving Shattenkirk, and even then, I wouldn't give up too much...
-
Why would we give all that up for a pending UFA? Shattenkirk will in all likelihood test free agency. Why not make the two trades you suggested, keep the picks and go after Shattenkirk this summer? If we gave up any assets, let alone any of Larkin, Mantha or Athanasiou for a month of Shattenkirk this place would implode... That's the sort of trade a Cup contender makes, not a team in contention for the number one pick...

To be fair, a lot of us have been very high on Athanasiou for a long time. Even going back to his days in London / Barrie of the OHL. He's a special player for sure, but you still trade him if he can land us a number one defenseman, although I don't believe he alone would get it done. Filling an area of weakness from an area of strength is always a good idea.
-
I honestly doubt it...

I don't think any player is truly untouchable, but I agree that some should be in the sense that the return likely wouldn't be better than the player we already have. It would take an awful lot for me to want to trade Larkin, Athanasiou and especially Mantha. But if the right deal came along, hell yeah I'd trade them. Athanasiou for Werenski? Yup. If Gretzky can get traded, any player can get traded...
-
I f***ing love Athanasiou, but if you can trade a guy like that for a legit number one defenseman, you should definitely do it. AA has the "potential" to become a 1C, but he could top out as a 2C. All the guys you listed are 1D. If we were offered Jones or Trouba straight up for Athanasiou, I'd do it without thinking twice... Both are the same age as Athanasiou and both are out producing him from the back end. 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 52 games for Jones, 24 points (5 goals, 19 assists) in 47 games for Trouba, and 20 points (14 goals, 6 assists) in 45 games for Athanasiou. Losing Athanasiou would definitely hurt, but the gain from either of those guys would definitely outweigh the loss of AA in my opinion. Especially if we have the opportunity to draft one of Patrick or Vilardi...

I'd love to see him traded and get in some more games on another teams 4th line. Trade him for future considerations if any team wants him, unfortunately for Drew, I just don't see any team calling for his services...

I wasn't a fan of the Hronek pick when we first made it, because I felt there were better players still on the board at 53, like Taylor Raddysh... Still wish we picked him, but oh well... Hronek is starting to look like a decent prospect though. He's been the kid I have been keeping a close eye on this season and he has been very impressive thus far. He's playing on a very bad Saginaw team, is 2nd on the team in points (50) and shots (186) in just 48 games (6-8 less than the rest of the team). He also leads the team in +/- with a +15, most of the team are in the minus, with the worst being -24. He's 5th in the entire league in scoring for defensemen, and 2nd in points per game. He definitely needs to bulk up a significant amount if he wants to have a career in the NHL, but not bad at all for a 170lbs. 19 year old kid...

Trouba is just 22 years old (23 next week), still very young for a defenseman. He is also on the exact same point per game pace as Fowler, 0.51, while Hamilton is currently better, at 0.59. Hamilton is a year older and Fowler is two years older. Trouba is also on a pace as good or better offensively then either of the other two at the same age. Trouba is finally starting to get the appropriate ice time and he has been capitalizing. He would take on an even bigger role in Detroit, and I think he would be an absolute stud. I would definitely take both Hamilton and Fowler if they were available as well, but Trouba would be my number one target, then Hamilton, then Fowler...

Let's just say we're sitting at the draft table with the number 5 overall pick and Liljegren is our guy. Winnipeg calls and offer us Trouba for the pick straight up. What would you do? I take the trade without hesitation. Trouba is a top pair guy right now, and has plenty of room to grow. Liljegren, while he looks like a very good young player, is still very much an unknown. I think best case scenario he develops into a player as good as Trouba, maybe slightly better offensively. Worst case, which is always a possibility, he doesn't develop as well as expected, and tops out as a mediocre NHL defenseman. I take the sure thing every time.
-
Absolutely. And if for some unknown reason we didn't want to keep Green beyond this season, you don't just leave him unprotected, you trade him at the deadline. He's one of our best trade chips, so he either needs to be traded in the next week, or protected this summer and traded before next year's trade deadline. The assets we would gain in the trade, in addition to another season with Green are more valuable than any one player we could potentially lose in the expansion draft. I still really hope Vegas doesn't take Sproul though. I still think he's the only one of the kids with a ceiling beyond top 4...

I don't think there is a single fan that would protect Kronwall at this point in his career, but can anyone say with any sort of certainty, that Holland wouldn't protect him? I'd hope he wouldn't, but I think there's a strong possibility that he would... The protection would obviously be much better served, using it on one of the younger defensemen. I too would love to see Holland's protected list, as well as the rest of the league. I'm hoping they will be leaked prior to the expansion draft...
-
Holland has made his fair share of boneheaded moves over the past few seasons, but there's no way he leaves Athanasiou unprotected. And even if for whatever reason he wasn't protected, it would be in favour of Helm, definitely not Sheahan... My bet is we go with something like this... Nielsen, Zetterberg, Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha, Athanasiou, Abdelkader Kronwall, DeKeyser, Green Mrazek I'm still hoping we make some trades, but as it sits right now, that's what I see happening. I'd also love for them to leave Kronwall unprotected, and protect one of the three kids, but I'm not so sure that will happen... I'm still holding out hope that one of our protections will be used on Trouba...

Benn - Scheifele - Mantha Athansiou - Larkin - Zetterberg Nyquist / Tatar - Nielsen - Jurco Sheahan - Helm - Abdelkader How do we get Benn and Scheifele? THAT'S the trick...
-
I wouldn't even want him without a cap hit to be honest. That may sound silly, but it's true. I'd rather literally any defenseman in the organization in over Marchenko, and that even includes Lashoff... I mainly don't want him taking minutes from the likes of Sproul or Ouellet, or even eventually Russo or Hicketts though...

02/19 GDT : Detroit Red Wings vs Pittsburgh Penguins : 3:00 PM ET

Hell No! Trading Mrazek would be dumb in my opinion, and regardless of what Mick said, Holland definitely isn't shopping him. No way do you trade a goalie with Mrazek's potential, unless it's straight up for a young, number one defenseman (and that's not happening).
