That is a good point, and that can be the problem with stats especially in a small sample size. A shot from the perimeter right at a goalie is much different then a 2 on 1. Is there a stat that shows Save Percentage on Scoring chances? Essentially taking out easy saves that any goalie would make?

lol, the camera goes to Trouba wearing a Jets shirt, then he rips it off ala Hogan to reveal the Wings shirt! We just need Jim Ross announcing saying "Bah God, he's a Red Wing!!!!! Holland did it!!!!" and then the crowd erupts!

My original Zetterberg comments were not directed at you, the part directed at you was the part about AA. With that being said since you think it's "ludicrous" not calling out Z....... what's actually ludicrous is criticizing a player because he is not the player he used to be when has done what Z has done for the organization. The is a classic example of spoiled Red Wing fans. Its that "what have you done for me lately" cynical and callus attitude. If Zetterberg makes a bonehead play, or is not giving full effort, sure I get it, fans can criticize. But to be upset or wanting him to be called out because he cant score like he used to, or he isn't as fast as he used to be etc. is ridicules. All you can ask out of Z is to put his best effort forward. It's not even like he can retire, that would hurt us even more. Best case for Z, is he plays a couple more years, then at some point he realizes his body cant go anymore and he goes on LTIR. I don't believe he would even be eligible for that right now. (Yes I realize to do this we would have to trade Franzen's contract). I know you are waiting to say that. As far as Blashill not criticizing Zetterberg through the media. I have no problem with it. A new coach shouldn't be criticizing a player like Zetterberg publicly. Do it behind closed doors if it's needed. What is it going to solve other then making DickeDunn happy? Its not an AA situation where it could be used as a motivator.

I want to see Trouba sitting in the audience wearing a Red Wing shirt. It would be Scott Hall on Nitro all over again!

lol on quick protect we are protecting: Zetterberg, Nielson, Nyquist, Abby, Tatar, Sheahan, Mantha Green, DD, Kronwall Mrazek People are just picking the biggest names.

The Red Wings are the worst puck possession team in the NHL.
kliq replied to shocky2002's topic in General
This thread is an over reaction. After the first 8 games when we ranked #1 in the NHL in scoring, I would NEVER create a thread at that time saying we are the best goal scoring team in the league. Way to small of a sample size! To say we are the worst puck possession team in the league after 11 games, same thing, an over-reaction to a small sample size. We need to improve in puck possession for sure, but lets stop with the hyperbole. People are so up and down on here. We lose the first two and "we are junk!" We win 6 and we now no longer need Trouba an "we are awesome!" We then lose 2 more and an OT game, and "we are awful again!" -
Again, you can't just "LTIR someone". What you do, is you bring someone up and IF you are over the cap you apply for relief using LTIR. With that being said, I would like to see Mantha up and playing top 9. Put Sheahan on the 4th and put Miller or Ott in the press box.

Come on guys, this is a bit extreme. His comments were "I would’ve liked to use [Athanasiou] in that situation, but I didn’t like his second half of the game at all. And I told him that, so I have no problem saying that." It's not like he called AA a pile of hot garbage. If AA cant handle being told that he had a bad second half, then he needs to develop a thicker skin. I haven't heard AA complain so I am sure he is just fine, but if he were to do what Lefty is implying, that is weak for something so small. I'm not defending his approach to vets, and I am not defending him as a coach, but in this instance it is really not a big deal. A reporter likely asked him about AA specifically and that was his answer. I also 100% agree with kickazz earlier in this thread when he said not to categorize Zetterberg as one to be "called out". All you can ask of your players is to give it their all. A guy like AA is young and needs guidance to help with his development. Zetterberg is a guy that when he messes up, it is likely due to the fact he can't get his body to do what it once did because of everything he has put his body through for this team. He gets a damn pass as long as he is doing his best with what he has left.

I cant see how this shocks anyone. XO and Sproul have been the one's rotating all season. Like everyone, I want to see Sproul playing, but this is hardly a surprise.
-
I dont love Blashill, but I cant say I have an issue with him being hard on a kid that he likely see's a ton of potential in.

I don't think the OMG line is the worst line in the NHL. First off its a small sample size, and secondly I think matchups really should be accountant for (Is it? I'm not too educated on Corsi). If you have these guys going up against top lines, and other 4th lines going up against opposing teams 4th lines, of course the OMG line are going to have weaker corsi. With that being said, I do not like this line and I want them broken up. I would like the 4th line to be Sheahan-Glendenning-Bertuzzi or Frk or Jurco etc. IMO the role of both Ott and Miller should be press box or their isn't room the AHL. Play a game here or there when a player is hurt, or if the coaching staff want to bench a guy to send a message. I don't want either of these two playing in the majority of our games, or at least not both.

lol, out his ass. Howard has a Save % of 97.3 this year, and 91.5 career. Not to mention he has not had a single season where his Save % was ever 92.15. He's trolling as per usual.

I got the same thing, but then I tried Chrome and it worked.

I think a lot of people have already created a narrative and what actually happens in the short term means nothing. If they win another 6 in a row it will be a fluke, if they lose the majority of the next 6 people will say its reflective of the teams skill. Whatever people thought going into the season generally will stay the same especially when its a negative opinion. Personally I will make my assessment closer to the half way point of the season as anything this early really means nothing. My gut tells me we are an above average team that will get third in our division or a WC spot.

Thanks for clearing it up. Before reading what you wrote and after reading Rich's comments, I was going to post that I was pretty sure LTIR was more complicated then some on here were making it out to be and I was going to look it up. You saved me some time! Some posters think you put someone on LTIR and your cap hit just instantly drops.
-
They are not putting Vanek on LTIR because to do it he has to miss either 10 games or 24 days.
-
edit....I accidentally erased my post when trying to make a small change.
-
Really lol? Green has been on this team for just over 1 year. I think you are being a bit over the top. I dont disagree with the main part of your point though. IF management/coaching staff feel Marchenko, Sproul, and XO are the future, they should be playing. If they feel they are just stop gaps until younger guys are ready, then I dont care if they play or not.
-
The Oven actually does make sense for obvious reasons.
-
I would also rather trade Tatar. People use the argument of the cap, but by next season Tats will be making the same or more. I think people get down on Gus because he was so good back in 2014, that 2015 and 2016 just put a bad taste in their mouth. Personally I am a huge fan of Nyquist and want to see him here for the duration of his contract unless its a deal that is too good to pass up (ie. a trade for Trouba).
-
Where's Bill? Its like the 3 faces of Foley.
-
When Detroit put him through waivers, was Minnesota the only team to put a claim in?
-
Can Bieska waive his NMC for the draft? I dont see why he wouldn't, Very doubtful Vegas would take him, and this way Anaheim can protect their big 3 therefore making his team better.
-
That's only 6, you get one more as you can protect 7 forwards.
-
I was wrong with what I originally wrote. If Vegas signs say Lashoff, that means he becomes their pick. That would be an awful pick. Same goes for Callahan or Jensen.
