Frk claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes

When it comes to Pulkinnen, it will be interesting what happens tomorrow. At the end of the day, its lose-lose. If he's claimed, we lose. If nobody puts a claim in for him, then it just proves that he has zero trade value. If he cant play in the NHL AND he has no trade value, we lose. I dont know much about Frk. Never fun to lose someone, but if he's a below average bottom 6 guy, I cant say I care too much. If he ends up being a top 6 guy, then this is awful asset management, especially since it was to keep Miller and Ott.

Alot of people are down on Sproul, this doesn't shock me. This is a make or break it year for him. XO is a player I personally really like. I haven't seen anything of him in the AHL, but from what I have seen on the Wings, I thing he is a good third pairing d-man, and I really like his passing ability. I can think of quite a few really nice passes he has made that led to goals, something we dont see from our D often lol.

I didn't think your comments came across this way and to be fair I dont think many on these boards do. The majority of the people who are pretty level headed on this board have the consensus that they are excited for the future with all the young talent we have coming up, but I dont think any are saying things to extreme's (ie. guaranteeing championships, refusing to acknowledge mistakes etc.). Also, when it does come to mistakes, alot of people are experts when they look at things in hindsight. We could all build winners if we had a crystal ball lol.

Don't take in personally, some just like to be over the top negative and cynical and make everything out to be doom and gloom then try to pass it off as being "realists". Extreme in either direction is not a good way to look at things. I think this is just a natural reaction of some who got so accustomed to seeing the Wings dominate for 20 years, that now that they are not are essentially acting out. Don't get me wrong, I don't think everything Holland does is perfect, and I do think that adding a 1A d-man is essential (crossing my fingers that they trade for Trouba) but this team is not a pile of garbage because of Abby, Helm and Glendening like some will make you believe. Personally, I am excited about this team with a core of Larkin, Mrazek, DD and co. moving forward. Do I wish the aforementioned players were signed for a few less years/dollars, of course, but I don't think it breaks us.

Can you explain your hate for Nyquist? I really don't get it. They guy has been one of our best offensive players over the past 3 years, and he has a pretty small cap-hit for what he does. If he was getting 7 or 8 mil per year, then I would get it. He had a down year last year, but its not like he was garbage or anything. Pretty much every fantasy magazine I have read this year have him as our leading scorer getting around 30 goals. Not bad for a 4.5 mil cap hit. Is it the Swedish thing?

I believe Howard is a much better goalie then E is a D-man in 2016, plus after this season Howard will have 2 years left on his contract opposed to E having 3 years left. If Howard shows this year that he is still a legit starting goalie, I could easily see a team taking a chance on him. Secondly, with Mrazek, we just don't need him, so if Howard has a great year, that increases his value. E on the other hand IMO is going to keep regressing and I cant see a team trading for a guy who by that time will likely be solidified as a third pairing guy with a 4mil+ cap hit for 3 years, it's just a completely different situation. Not to mention, if E proves me wrong and becomes a top pairing guy again which could happen, unlike Howard, Holland will keep him. E plays good we keep him, E plays bad we have to keep him. That's why I don't see E being moved. Also, when I say I see him being moved, I do include the expansion draft in that statement. Las Vegas will need to hit the cap floor, and if they bring on a young goalie, they are going to want a vet to play along side him. Howard gives them cap for a short period of time, and I think he could really help a youngster.

I cant have national pride for a team that "A" has players I cant stand, and "B" could theoretically be knocked out of the tournament by fellow Canadians with the existence of Team North America. Once Team NA and Team Europe came into play, it just became teams to me and the national pride went out the window. I have never cared less for an international hockey tournament in my entire life. I didn't watch a single game because I truly didn't care.

According to Wikipedia: In the NHL, each player signs what is, or is a variation of, a standard NHL player's contract. The contract specifies that the team has exclusive rights to the player playing in the NHL. Once an NHL player has played in a certain number of games or a set number of seasons has passed since the signing of his first NHL contract (see here), that player must be offered to all of the other NHL teams before he can be assigned to a minor league affiliate.[2] In the 2005 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) assignment waivers applies only to loans from an NHL club to its American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.[3] After a player has been designated for assignment, the other 29 NHL teams can put in a claim or waive their claim for that player. The claims process starts at noon Eastern Time and ends 24 hours later. If only one team makes a claim for the player, then he will be transferred to the claiming team. If more than one team makes a claim, then the player will be transferred to the team having the lowest percentage of possible points in league standings at the time of the request for waivers. If waivers are requested outside of the playing season, or before November 1, then the player shall be transferred to the team with the lowest points in the preceding season.[4] If no team places a claim, the player can be sent to a minor league affiliate. When a player clears waivers and is sent down and then is called up again, he does not have to clear waivers to be sent down again unless he has played ten games or has been "up" for 30 days.[4]

As a Canadian I was not going for Canada lol. As much as I would like to go for Canada, I cant cheer for a team that I can't stand so many players on. Crosby, Towes, Thornton, Marchant, Getzlaf, Perry etc. Don't like any of them. I was going for Team Europe, especially considering how pissed I was that Slovakia wasn't even shown enough respect to get its own team.

You're thinking of Wyatt Russel, he's no longer playing hockey and is an actor now. His biggest role that I know is he played the QB in "22 Jump Street" (the guy who had the bro-mance with Channing Tatum)

That's true, and its saying that the trade was offered in the summer. Since Trouba still hasn't been moved, that implies to me that Winnipeg was fishing for a steal and nobody budged. Hopefully now that the Trouba camp came out publicly with everything, they bring the price tag down.

This writer is not that good. He basically implies here that Holland couldn't stomach his own offer. If you continue reading you do read that what he is saying is that Winnipeg countered, but this highlighted section sounds very odd. "I know that Cheveldayoff received several offers during the summer. I know that one came from Detroit. I’m told that it involved two of their higher-level forwards, and Holland wasn’t willing or able to stomach that. As much as the Detroit Red Wings need defense, they can’t move out multiple pieces of scoring, otherwise they fill one hole and dig another." Secondly, does anyone else find this headline grammatically incorrect? Its one thing on a message board, its another for a professional article. Report: Jets’ Ask for Jacob Trouba to Red Wings was Too Great for Ken Holland

Nobody is disputing that the Wings can afford it, its the cap management aspect of the deal that is ludicrous. With that being said, I wonder who the forwards were that Winnipeg asked for? If it was Larkin and a forward, good job for Holland in standing his ground and not caving in to fan pressure. If it was say a Nyquist/Tatar, then I have to say I kind of wish he pulled the trigger and then gave their spots to a combination of Jurco/Mantha/AA. Who knows what was asked, its all speculation. I think they are fine, they have Miller, Ott, Smith, and Vanek off the books next year, that's close to 7.5 million. Pus I do think next summer is when Howard gets moved as a 2 year contract should not be a hard sell if he doesn't decline anymore this year. E is not going anywhere unfortunately, unless he turns his game around, but if he does that I see Holland keeping him anyways.

100% agree. That is a steal by NJ. He may not be worth 4mil/year, but hes definitely worth more then 1mil/year. Its too bad we couldn't have dumped E and signed Quincey for that price, he would be a great 3rd pairing guy.

I do agree with you Frank that it will likely take DD to get Trouba, but with that being said, you even said it yourself, asking price and actual value are not the same thing. Of course Winnipeg is going to start this process asking for top value, we will see what happens. It is an interesting situation as being an RFA, Trouba does has more control then usual in this situation as nobody is going to want to trade for a player who may hold out. Trouba and his agent do have some power here. 8x8 for Trouba is just stupid. I am as high on Trouba as anyone, but the kid hasn't done anything yet. He's coming from a team where he played on the third pairing. All the potential in the world, but you don't pay 8x8 for potential. Coming from someone who always says not to put too much pressure on the kids, I dont see how you can justify 8x8 for a 22 year old, talk about pressure, geez.

I dont think Qunicey will have an issue getting signed. I think what he will have an issue with is getting signed at about 4mil per year.

I feel like your expectations are impossible to meet. You specifically say "Outbid them ALL" then you say things like "No Larkin, No AA, No DD, No Mrazek etc." You cant have it both ways. I hope Holland can get these guys with picks/our 2nd tier players, but based on everything I am reading, Winnipeg wants a top LH D-man, and from Detroit that would be DD.

The reason why I bring DD up is because I'm reading his name on a lot of sites. Here is just one example: http://www.winnipegsun.com/2016/09/25/jets-trade-options-for-trouba I would do it, but that would be my absolute last resort.

Trade value in the NHL is a tricky thing, one trade may effect the market, but it does not define it. If it did then the Tyler Seguin trade would have had a huge ripple effect. Just because Chiarelli and Bergevin made dumb trades (ie. Seguin/Hall and Subban trades) it doesn't mean that everyone else will. A player is only as valuable as the team that is trading for him makes him out to be. If we were in June, I think the market for Trouba would have been sky high. So many teams with so much cap space, really anything could happen and likely Winnipeg would have been given a big offer, I can see why Winnipeg's fans are pretty pissed with the handling of this situation. We all saw it first hand with the horrible trades made by both Montreal and Edmonton. With that being said, what Trouba's value is now in September is not necessarily the same as what it was back in June. It could be even higher (doubt it), it could be lower, it all depends on what teams are willing to trade. In addition, one other thing people are not taking into consideration here is the fact that Trouba is an unsigned RFA who is requesting a trade at a very young age, this is a turn off to a lot of GM's. Winnipeg can trade him wherever they want, but the team that trades for him is going to want some assurance that Trouba is going to sign for a rate they can afford. If Trouba and his camp don't give that to them, that is a problem. My gut tell me that Trouba will not go to Detroit, because I think some team out there will offer a package better then what we can offer if we are not going to include Larkin, Mrazek, and DD. Though, I definitely think we have a shot as we are a team I believe Trouba would love to come to as we are in his home state, we have a lot of good young talent, and he would instantly be our #1D. We will have to wait and see what happens.

Well I would imagine that if Helm were to go, AA would take his spot as third line centre and then AA's spot would be taken by Miller or Ott who are already against the cap. Maybe we only healthy scratch 2 instead of 3? It would work. Either way, doesn't matter as Helm is not going anywhere. lol, I figured. Seemed like way too much for Trouba. As much as I like the guy, we are not talk PK Subban here. There is a reason why Winnipeg is not willing to put this guy above Buff and Myers on their depth chart.
