Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Are you seriously still complaining about this? Let it go, it's done with. You don't need to complain about it in every single thread. Do what Bill did and make an Abby's contract sucks thread and post in it every day if you want. I do agree that Stamkos is a no brainer. He is the definition of a franchise player, and you do not pass up on franchise players in their prime. Even at 10mil per year, I would take Stamkos over Green/Nyquist any day (since their cap hits are around 10 mil together).

If we signed Radulov to say a 3 year deal, and then he left to go back to Russia after 1 or 2 years, are we stuck with the cap hit?

    Grand Rapids Griffins Playoff Thread

Of course, but that's not my point. My point is that ALOT of players that the Wings bring up are AHL playoff performers, and that by performing well in the AHL (points wise) does not mean that they are a lock to produce at the NHL level (point wise). Its definitely a good sign, and my comments were not even against the original poster. On these forums posters have a tendency to love players when they are in the AHL, but the second they have any difficulties in the NHL, they s*** all over them and cast them off as junk (ie. Jurco). Look at Nyquist, he went from being the savior to a "must trade" in 2 years, when all along he was just a very good secondary scorer (still is). Anyways, I'm going off topic. Bert appears to be a very good player in the AHL, and I hope he gets a shot with the Wings to prove that he can do it at the NHL level, but when he comes up I hope people dont turn on him like they do most other prospects. I feel some will have an expectation for him next year to score a point per game with the Wings come playoff time, and I doubt that will happen.

    Grand Rapids Griffins Playoff Thread

I hope your're right, and you very well could be, but lots of guys do this. In 2013 Tatar, Glendenning, Ferraro, Sheahan, and Jurco were all amongst the league leaders in playoff scoring for a Calder Cup winning team.

ECF : Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

They must just be thinking of the Wings series as he only got 3 points. But ya, he was great last year.

    Boudreau to Minnesota

I would have to disagree with that. If you are taking "momentum" in a game, that is usually a combination of two things, adrenaline and anxiety which can dictate game flow. When a team gets "momentum" the majority of the players are likely getting a rush of adrenaline which is a a sudden burst of energy from an increase in the hormone and neurotransmitter "adrenaline". While the players on the team with momentum against them have a tendency of feeling anxiety, which is a a feeling of worry. Would this apply to every single player on the ice, of course not, but it does apply to some. Long story short, I do believe momentum is a real thing and in a scientific way. The "momentum" being discussed above in the context of us making the playoffs based on the momentum of previous years, that I dont agree with.

    Jim Bedard gone... Ferschweiler demoted

The first time I have saw Howard play was a preseason game against TB, it was the season after the lockout and he let in his first shot on net from I believe center ice lol.

    Jim Bedard gone... Ferschweiler demoted

He was projected to be an average starter, then at one point was being refereed to as a top 6 goalie in the NHL. I remember an ESPN.com article in particular where they ranked him as #6 in the league. That would 100% be under "exceeding expectations".

I was just about to post about him. Is he still in Anaheim? Or was we let go when BB was let go?

ECSF : New York Islanders vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Typically a non tanking re-build that works takes about 3-5 years (this if off the top of my head, I'm not exactly running statistics here). I feel like our re-build started in 2013 so by 2018 I think we should be making some noise.

I dont disagree with anything you are saying. My exact statement about Yzerman was: Yzerman has done good (maybe great) work in TB, granted he has had issues with star players, but overall a TB fans should be pleased. My point was that comparing Yzerman and Holland just using 2010-2016, is a bit unfair as one team was on the assent, another was on the decent. Both are natural part of the cyclical nature of sports. If you compare any GM's accent to any GM's decent, its going to to great for one, and horrible for the other. If you are erasing Hollands past, and just talking 2010 and on, to truly compare them, you need to let Hollands re-build complete. At that point he will have either failed, or succeeded.

It seems a bit ironic that you bash the streak while having it as your avatar. Yzerman has done good (maybe great) work in TB, granted he has had issues with star players, but overall a TB fan should be pleased. Nill has done a good job in Dallas, but really hasn't accomplished anything yet. What both of these two have in common, is they took over a team at rock bottom and worked their way up. Yzerman in particular had a pretty solid core in place when he took over. Holland had a team that was headed for a decline, and it did just that. The true test for Holland is how the current re-build works out. Not really fair to compare Holland in the midst of a decline to GM's in the midst of a rise. If anything compare their complete bodies of work, or allow Holland to complete his re-build. If it fails, then I get it. But you cannot expect a team to be cup contenders for 25 straight years.

I feel like a lot of people want TB to lose because then it strengthens their argument of us being awful. Losing to a bad team creates a narrative of being a very bad team. Losing to a SC Champion or even a conference champion just means you are not the best in the NHL or the best in your conference which I dont think anyone is arguing the Wings are.

Guy Boucher new HC of the Sens

If the Wings were going to fire Blashill, they would have done it right away when the most coaches were available. Unless you mean as an assistant, but that would shock me.

    Calder finalists

Ya the awards are decided on by hockey writers with the exception of Ted Lindsay award which is voted on by the players. I'm not sure how the one's associated with charity are picked.

    Fixing this mess....

I honestly dont know the answer, but I would be interested in seeing how many picks we had in those early drafts. If we traded alot of high end picks for rentals etc. that would be a huge factor in that stat.

Agreed, people think they can say whatever they want, and get pissed off when they are called out. The sad thing is, they truthfully dont comprehend that what they are saying hurts others. Then when someone calls them out on their BS they fall back on the "PC Police" argument. I admit that sometimes people can be overly sensitive now a days, but there there are certain things that cross a line, and comments related to racism, homophobia, and putting down people with special needs falls into that category.
