Oh I'm not blaming Parise, but when you sign a player to a 14 year contract, you are taking HUGE risks especially when it comes to major regression/injury.

I dont like doing this because it doesnt seem fair, but I think his lack of speed would kill him. Plus, Howe was a very gritty player, and he would likely feel neutered playing in today's NHL. I think he would really struggle. -
I'm hoping TO beats Boston. I can see Boston winning the cup, I just can't see the Leafs with that D.

Do you mean if you literally went back in time and took Howe, and brought him to current day? Like with his 1950's/60's speed, agility etc.? -
The two of them will be on the books for another 7 years at 15million per year. Currently Suter is 33 years old and is coming off an ankle fracture (he did play well before the injury though) and Parise is 33 and coming off 24 points in 42 games.

Agreed. The way I look at it, you can only compare within an era. The reason why I believe Gretzky is the greatest of all time, is because he dominated all other players within in his era not named Mario. Howe, Crosby, Richard etc. never did dominated their own era's like Gretzky did. That's why I find it baffling when people attempt to make claims that one era was "better" then another" The NHL is constantly evolving, players are not getting any worse. -
Just Suter would have been fine, a #1 D-man is a necessity now a days. Both as a package is what screwed Minny.

Ya, pretty easy year for predictions. So far I'm 6-1 this year with LA being my only incorrect pick. With Chicago and LA being out, if Washington can take Pittsburgh out, and TO can take Boston out, I'll be super in to it! I'm sick of the same teams winning every year and since our cup, the league has been dominated by the big 4.

One could argue that you could criticize Fletcher. Those two wanted to go to Minny, yet were still given ridiculous contracts. I feel a better GM could have still landed them at a lower cost.

I dont think the majority are "blinded" but I think some are. Generally speaking, when the 2002 team is brought up, people talk about it like its one of the greatest teams of all time. On paper it was, in reality, it was a very good team. I dont think it was as good as what some people hype it up to be. With that being said, it was a very very good team. -

Come on Lefty, you don't like Howard so in an effort to take a shot at him you say that he probably pitches and catches. How is that not homophobic? You would never say, "Dahlin is a sick prospect, he probably pitches and catches" reason being that a saying like that would only be used from you about a player you do not like, because in your mind "pitching and catching" is an insult. (ie. homophobia.). Saying someone is *** should not be an insult. -

Sounds like you agree with me even though you say you don't. In my post I wasn't saying that '02 had more past their prime players then '08, I was just saying that in general people look at the '02 team in a brighter light then they should because of how many hall of famers were on it. My point is simply that a lot of those players were past their primes. That particular post had nothing to do with 2008. -

Some people get to caught up in the "names" on the 2002 team. Great team for sure, but many were well past their prime. -

I voted yes a few months ago, but now I would pass unless its a 1 year deal with no NTC which will not happen. I worry that if we sign him to say a 3 year deal, he regresses and becomes another bloated contract that we can't move.
