    Hockey Fights 2017/18

Also, lets not forget it was E who jumped in at the end when the CGY player took a cheap shot at Tatar.
  4. Dickie's right, its pretty black and white. You cannot come back under any circumstances, there is no grey area here. Is Tkachuk a little s*** disturber? Yup. And I hope he also gets suspended, but what Witkowski did you just can't do. You know the NHL secretly loves this stuff though.

The next captian: #39 Anthony Mantha!

Towes is a good player. If he keeps working hard he can definitely become Chicago's version of Kris Draper.

There is no doubt that Towes is a great leader, I would definitely argue that he is at the same level as guys like Dustin Brown (before being stripped) and Jordan Stall

Oh for sure. My comments were more so directed at some fans.

The next captian: #39 Anthony Mantha!

I really don't care who fights or who scores 30 goals etc. when it comes to being the next captain, what matters to me is who is that guy in the locker room, that when he speaks EVERYONE listens. That is who the captain should be. More often then not it ends up being the guy who scores the most goals because that guy earns the respect of his teammates, but sometimes that guy just isn't "captain" material, and that's ok. The guy I dont want to be captain, the guy that speaks and people just turn their head because they dont want to hear them.

    The MANtha watch.....

This just isn't true with the exception of maybe Gretzky as he was just an outlier in every way. I'm guessing you grew up watching guys like Yzerman, Lemieux, Gretzky etc. and as a result put them on a pedestal. Howe on the other hand is simply a legend around here, and Orr also has that feel to his legacy. Kids now a days are going to have the exact same opinion of guys like Crosby, Ovie, and likely McDavid. As they get older most fans won't have the same level of respect for kids that are younger then them, then what they had for the stars of their childhood. Also, lets not forget, these guys didnt have the same pool to play against that players now a days do. Imagine how good Crosby would be compared to the rest if you took out alot of the European players. No Ovie, Malkin etc. and Crosby starts to look a lot more like Gretzky. And for the record, I am not a Crosby fan lol.
  10. I’m a to the the Joe right now, that was crazy! Did you guys see mantha and harmonic going at it UFC style lol?

    Rumors Thread

Oh I'm not optimistic about this, I am just saying best case scenario. What I actually think will happen....I think Mrazek's poor play will continue, we will trade him for a 3rd (similar to the jurco deal) and then we hold on to Howard and sign him to an extension, pick up a vet to back him up (A Chad Johnson type) and wait for Petruzzelli to hopefully develop.

It shouldnt be hard to trade Jimmy after this year. With one year remaining and his play being where it is I could see him being in demand and gaining us a return. Best case for us is both goalies play good, and then we move forward with Mrazek and trade Jimmy.

Modified NTC expires this year https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jimmy-howard next year he has no such clause according to capfriendly.

Wings players with no trade clauses

Problem is people dont actually like to look at the facts, its easier to just glance and see the NTC or NMC and then make a snap judgement and act pissy.

    The MANtha watch.....

Overall talent is not not down, the average athlete in 2017 is stronger, faster, bigger etc. compared to the average athletes of previous generations. Go watch a game from the early 90's, its a lot slower then the game now a days. The big difference is parity, you have a system set up now where it is very hard to have many elite players on one team, and you dont have many teams that are awful. This in addition to larger goalie equipment, more of an emphasis on D, and many other factors are the reason why guys are not scoring like that anymore. Just one example, look at Mark Messier. As a kid, I can remember him always scoring that wrist shot while coming down the right side (at least that's what I remember). I feel that now a days that shot would never go in.

Completely agree. Wings fans have a tendency to be at either one extreme or the other. Here is a good example of the other extreme:

Mlive ranks Wings Coaches ...where does Blash rank?

Agreed. When you are taking over a hall of fame ridden team that is coming off a cup, there is really only one direction to take a team. The sweep against the Ducks was hard to take, but they dominated the entire Western Conference that year in the playoffs. Didn't the Wild only score 1 goal in the entire series! Not saying the guy was a great coach, but he was definitely made a scapegoat.

Of course, but its not as if the NHL is going to say "well, since the NFL has more to worry about, we arent going to do anything" Boxing and MMA are different, because the sports are punching in the head. You either kill the sport, or allow it. The NFL is not going to look the same in 5 years, things are going to change there. The NHL doesnt NEED fighting to survive, hence its going to be taken out. Don't shoot the messenger.

    Hockey Fights 2017/18

CTE is caused by repeat blows to the head, and guys who fight and fight frequently taking blows to the head. It is what it is. I love fighting, as a kid I used to get pumped for a fight, but in 2017 knowing what we know, I just dont see it lasting much longer, especially when its not a necessity to the game. But long story short, going back to the original argument, the PA would not be against protecting the players long term health. You can live your life with a knee problem or a shoulder problem etc. Brain damage is an entirely different animal which can lead to a lot of awful symptoms and unfortunately in a lot of cases suicide.

    Hockey Fights 2017/18

I'm sure the PA would be ok with this, and if they are not while the league is, that pretty much kills the chance of any future lawsuits so the league would win either way. You can't sue the league for damage caused by fighting when the league wanted to do away with it, and the union wanted to keep it.

Depends on the player, last year it happened twice. If Hanzal can bring in a first, I think Green can IF he keeps scoring. FEBRUARY 27: St. Louis Blues trade D Kevin Shattenkirk and G Pheonix Copley to Washington Capitals for 2017 first-round pick, conditional draft picks and forwards Zach Sanford and Brad Malone FEBRUARY 26: Arizona Coyotes trade F Martin Hanzal, F Ryan White and fourth-round pick in 2017 Draft to Minnesota Wild for F Grayson Downing, first-round pick in 2017 Draft, second-round pick in 2018 and conditional pick in 2019

We're not "Bad" but we're also not "Good". We are in the middle. Sports fans in general are usually a bit over the top when it comes to assessing their own teams, as for some it can be therapeutic to just say things like "ughhh we suck" "OMG our team is so s***!" etc. But in reality we are a fridge playoff team. If all things click we can land in that 6th/7th/8th spot......if things don't go well we can fall right out. We're a team lacking elite players, we have good secondary scoring that is playing a line above what they should, and we have a D with 2-3 second pairing guys, and 4 bottom pairing/7th man type guys. Having this type of roster will lead to average play. Hopefully the kids can take it to the next level.
