Well just to clarify, I dont think the top 2 D on each team are necessarily top pairing guys, I think the top 62 D are top pairing guys. Some are elite, some are above average, some are below average, some are bad (for top pairing guys). I agree with you in that some teams have zero top pairing guys (the Wings), and some have more then 2 (the Preds) and I pretty much agree with everything you are saying. I think most of us agree that Shattenkirk is going to be paid like a top 10 or top 5 guy, but in reality is not close to that.

Pretty much this. The only thing I would disagree with is the second pairing part. I think he is a first pair guy, but a low end first pairing guy. I think sometimes people forget that to be a top pairing guy you essentially have to be in the top 62. I think Shattenkirk is a top 62 guy, but he is going to want to be paid like a top 5 guy which is why I want no part in it. Now if he wants to come here for 5 years at 5 million and we can dump a contact like E, i'm game. But its likely going to be 7 year at 8 mil.

You never know what a team is going to do, I'm not disagreeing with this, but all it takes is one of those teams thinking that they see something in someone else that others don't see and a player you don't think is available all of sudden is.

I dont think anyone can say if we should or should not trade for the 3rd pick until we know who goes 1st and 2nd.
-
The only thing I would add to that is the "McDavid effect". What I mean by that, is having him gives the team an advantage in attracting new pieces (Lucic is a perfect example).

Come on Lefty, when you make hyperbolic statements what do you expect. It would be one thing if you said Hall wasnt living up to expectations, saying "it's beginning to look like Hall is the bust" is going to get a reaction out of people.

Lets try to get this thread back on track, things seem to be getting quite personal at this point. At the end of the day we need a top pairing D-man, and ideally a future #1 center. If we get those two things, I think it completely changes the look of our team.

Oh.....I just assumed he was a UFA. Makes that suggestion even worse.
-
Ya Howard to....maybe he is thinking XO gets picked up in the expansion draft and Howard is traded. He should say that though.

Nothing in there that we haven't said a million times on the board, but still a good read. Biggest surprise was his suggestion to sign Kevin Klein to play on our first pairing with DD. He's 32, and when the writers main narrative is to get rid of our aging players and go young, not sure why his suggestion is to sign an aging player who is not elite or anything special unless he thinks we can get him for dirt cheap on a 1 year contract (ie. flip him at the deadline). Though I'm not sure how I feel about a guy like him playing over a guy like Sproul, Russo or Hicketts. I admit though, I dont know too much about Klein as I haven't seen him play much since his Nashville days.

Is this legit? Or a total troll job of Left Winger lol

I dont think it would ever happen, but Ovie on LV would give the team instant credibility. I would guess the Ovie LV jersey would become the best selling jersey in the league.

http://www.tsn.ca/chiarelli-dorion-poile-finalists-for-gm-award-1.753699 Poile was nominated for GM of the year. Pretty good for a guy who got "robbed".

Did Holland make a pitch for these two?
-
I agree he likely could not be flipped for a 1st right now. Though I do think he could get us a first come trade deadline based on what the market has shown the last couple years.
-
Green has trade value, and will likely fetch us a 1st or 2nd rounder at the deadline if we are selling. As far as the teams ahead of us in the draft, none of those teams should be trading for an expiring contract. The teams that are likely interested in Green will be picking between 20-30, and would have no reason to trade for him now.
-
Probably just had a bad game. Not sure why he would be tired, he's played less playoff hockey then any goalie left.

Go Preds!

They were also a contender, if we were a contender taking on Bishop would not be as big of a deal. The fact of the matter is we are not so that is not a good contract for us.
-
You mean the Hall of Famers we had at a time where there was no salary cap so if one regressed it didnt cost us a thing. Yep, exact same thing. We are not talking Carey Price or Henrik Lundqvist here, we are talking a guy who has been a starter for only 4 seasons, just hit 30, is coming off the worst season of his career, and is a likely person to be effected by equipment changes. This may prove to be a good move for Dallas, but it's just not a smart move for a team like ours that is re-building.
-
Why are you trying to make it sound like people want Howard more then Bishop with all things things being equal? You are really simplifying something that is much more complicated. If we could trade Howard and get rid of his last 2 years, and acquire Bishop for 2 years at the same cap hit, I'm guessing there are not a ton of people that would have an issue with this. This is however not the situation. The reality of the situation is that Howard is under contract for 2 more years, Bishop is under contract for 6 more years. By the time we become contenders, Howard will be long gone. With Bishop, if he were here he would likely be an over paid 30+ goalie in about 3 years and you would start to crap on him just like you do on Howard. Do you see the difference?
-
Not a bad point at all. If our starter went down, I would not trust him to be the guy for an extended period of time.
-
I think if Coreau played behind a decent defensive core and was the backup he would an ok backup goalie. When he was up earlier this year, his D was awful and he was being leaned on to start because Mrazek was just a mess. I guess what I am saying is that I think he can handle backup duties, or at least I am fine with him being given a shot.
-
I miss the days where cap meant nothing lol. You sign a player to a bad contract, he flops, you move on. I think this deal will be good for a couple years, then I think it will become Dallas's version of Howard's contract.
-
Look up Howard's stats when he is healthy, its the same thing almost every year. He plays well, gets hurt, struggles upon return, plays well again. If he didn't get hurt, his stats would be up there with the top of the league. With that being said, he always gets hurt, hence the reason he should not be our #1 goalie. If Howard got paid 2mil per year, I would love to have him as our backup. Your statement of saying he underachieves pretty much solidifies my point, so I agree with you. If he was a "dime a dozen" goalie, he wouldn't be underachieving, he would be playing at the level he should be playing at. Like I said, Howard is a very good goalie who has unfortunately had injuries derail his career year after year. He's not elite, but he is very good.
