I have no issues with that. At this point Kronwall should be asking to be a healthy scratch anyways. Why risk further damage for nothing -

Traditionally when teams get to this point in the season where the playoffs are out of the picture, they tend to lose out. Very hard to motivate a player to put that extra bit into everything they do when it really doesnt matter, and if anything hurts them in the draft. Don't take this the wrong way, Im not saying they are not trying, I'm saying that as a whole (Z excluded) I dont think they are giving 100% effort. I dont see why everyone is so mad and moody about the game, we are out of it. Its better we lose. If we start to win we dont make the playoffs, we get a worse pick, and Blashill likely stays. We lose out, we get a better pick and Blashill has a higher probability of being let go. -

I would love to see what this line could do together. -

I disagree with that. If someone bring up a valid point or uses logic/facts to show me that something that I post is incorrect, I am more then willing to change my stance on a subject. You have just not done that because you are essentially just name calling. -
Not to mention, if they are called up, with us not making the playoffs they will be sent back down in time to play in the AHL playoffs anyways. Speaking of, can the Wings send AA, Larkin, Mantha, and Jensen down to play in the AHL playoffs? Or no because of how long they have been up?
-
It sucks for us, but its smart. Revealing the lists will just lead to a % of every fan base going nuts. Not to mention, players are essentially being ranked, probably best they dont see as well.

Advanced Analytics might be used to judge Selke Trophy candidates this year
kliq replied to kickazz's topic in General
The issue is how does any voter watch every top defensive forward play 82 games a year, its impossible. Not that I have a better way to judge, though I like GRM's idea of having the players vote. Everyone who plays knows who is the hardest person to play against, anyone who has played sports can identify with this. -

Man does losing bring out the worst in fans. I couldn't put it any better krsmith17. The issue is if a player is not the next Datsyuk or Zetterberg, on this board they will become the new scapegoat. Countdown to when one if not all of Larkin, AA and Mantha end up going through the same thing. If this is not the definition of blind hate, I don't know what is. I said this to you before, and I'll say it again. If our entire team was killing it, but Nyquist was playing poorly, your argument of inconsistency would be more sound. However our entire team minus Zetterberg has been inconsistent all season. This is not a Nyquist issue, this is a team issue. I think what happens sometimes is fans like to put blame all on one person, then in their minds they can feel like "if we just got rid of that 1 player/coach/GM, we would be fixed". Nyquist is not THE reason for our struggles this year, he is a part of a larger problem. Our problem is simple, we have a group of guys that are all second tier players which has been a result of making the playoffs for 25 years. Outside of Z, nobody else on this team is a legit top 3 guy, so what happens is everybody is playing above their head. On D, the same thing is happening. Insert on this team, a 1C, 1D and maybe another legit top 6 winger, and it completely changes everything. Just look at Toronto, add Matthews and Marner to that roster (plus one of the best coaches in the world) and all of a sudden JVR, Bozak, and Kadri are no longer scapegoats and look great. Our team has done the exact opposite, we lost one of the best coaches in the world, lost an elite talent (Datsyuk) and the other (Z) has regressed significantly (though I have to give him props this year). People like to blame all these longerm contracts on us losing, also BS. They are not good, and will hurt us down the road if we can't dump them when our kids are due for raises, or maybe next year in UFA, but in the here and now they are not the reason we are losing. Get rid of E, Howard, Abby, Helm etc. and bring up kids from the AHL and we are worse. We need elite talent, simple as that. Fingers crossed that we can land Patrick, trade for Trouba, or sign Jonathan Taveras next summer. -
Oh sorry, I didn't see you put their 2nd pick. I thought we were swapping 1st round picks. Interesting....maybe??
-
This likely only works if the player going to Winnipeg is Larkin, AA, or Mantha. I can't see them giving up Trouba to move up 4 or 5 spots in a weak draft.
-
I meant full tear, but you are probably right.
-
For what its worth, it was a thread on HOF boards that has been erased. You can see it if you google the quote. Sounds like BS.
-
The team I was talking about was the NYI.
-
Well this sucks. Finally it looked like we could see him play for a good amount of games in a row and now this happens. Wish him the best in his recovery, luckily it's not a tear.
-
I brought it up Frank because the NYI did have interest and did offer him a contract. My logic behind it, is if he feels the Wings are not going to make the playoffs next year as well, maybe he would prefer to go to another team. I never said "I believed" this was going to happen, I said "I wonder if he would".
-
I remember reading that he took a slight discount to come to Detroit, only thing I could find was here: http://www.lighthousehockey.com/2016/6/26/12037254/frans-nielsen-rumors-ny-islanders-free-agency http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/06/28/frans-nielsen-new-york-islanders-nhl-free-agency/ Both report the Islanders offered 5.5 million an he rejected the offer, and that he could have gotten mil on the open market. Doesn't say anything about term (I admit I did skim) but it says this on the CBS site: With him being 32, the bold implies term offered was at least 4 years. I know people like to create the narrative that Holland signed him to a ridiculous contract that nobody else would have given him, but reality of the situation is that UFA's get overpaid now a days, especially the kind at the Nielsen/Backes level. For the record I dont think Holland should have signed him, but the market is what the market is.
-
With the way the season has gone, I wonder if Nielsen would consider a trade back to the NYI? They were said to interested in re-signing him last year, and I remember him saying it was between the two. If he was open to it, that could be huge for us salary cap wise.

Does anyone know the answer to this? If you look at the Wings roster on CapFriendly.com or NHLnumbers.com when you look at the minor league section, it only shows certain players who dont play in the AHL. As far as non AHL players go (guys that play in Europe, ECHL and CHL) they show Nastasiuk, Hronek, Paterson, Holmstrom, Saarijarvi and Smith, but where are the rest? For example, why doesnt it show Cholowski, Malmstrom, Sambrook, Filip Larsson, or Elfstrom? Have these guys not signed a pro contract yet? Is it because they are in collage? Does anyone know a site that lists everyone in the Wings system, and where they are? https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/redwings http://stats.nhlnumbers.com/teams/DET?year=2017

Rate Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg's leadership during their runs as C's
kliq replied to shocky2002's topic in General
By the sounds of this, it likely goes....1) Yzerman, 2) Zetterberg, 3) Lidstrom. But because we won a cup in 2008 and were a better team, fans incorrectly call Lidstrom a better leader then Zetterberg. -
Ok after giving it more thought, it must be because these guys have not signed a pro contract. But what I want to know is if a team does not sign a draft pick to a pro contract, when is the prospect free to sign elsewhere? I have no idea how this part works.

From the stories, more then likely Yzerman was the best. Between Lidstrom and Zetterberg though, I think most pick Lidstrom because he was on better teams. Huh, I didnt know that was actually a thing. Wierd nickname, but I googled it and you are right. -

Like I said earlier the only people who can actually answer this question are Franzen, Cleary, and Kronwall. What people are basically doing is saying the best leader is the guy who had the best team. I have to ask Frank....why do you call Lidstrom "The Perfect Human"? -
I'll interpret that as a yes lol.
-
Oh I dont think he is the answer either, agreed it would be a salary cap move.

Joking aside, would you trade E and Howard for Filppula?
