Well the first would have to be Patrick, if we landed Patrick though I think one of Larkin or AA are dispensable for Trouba. There was talk about DD being on Winnipeg's radar. I would also give up DD and a future pick for Trouba. IMO Trouba has a ceiling as a 1A d-man, DD has a ceiling as high end top 4 D-man.

If he can some how get us Patrick and Trouba, I dont disagree with this. Though I dont see it happening.

When it comes to D-men, it is so hard to accurately assess them at such a young age. Hopefully Holland drafts a ton of them, and we find our Subban. At Center that is very hard, on D it is very doable.

Look, the reason why this gets on people's nerves is because the point of this board is to have simultaneous conversations about all things Red Wing related. What unfortunately happens, is the majority of the threads get turned into "Ken Holland" threads and detract from other conversation. Don't take in personally, I welcome all posters as it just adds to the discussion. It was no different from the summer time when EVERY thread turned into a Helm thread, or 2/3 years ago a Cleary thread. There are certain posters that just repeat the same narrative in every thread they post in.

I think the point that many are trying to make to you, is that this is a trade deadline thread that you are using to complain about Ken Holland's performance over the past 6 years. We all get it, you are not happy with Holland, noted. Where the disconnect lies is with people who have preconceived notions about Holland and the past 6 years (I am not even debating right now if this is fair or not fair), and based on those notions/bias's are unfairly evaluating his performance today. If Holland was fired, and Yzerman came in 2 weeks ago and made identical moves to what Holland did today, simple question, would you be happy? Or unhappy?

Not sure if anyone posted this or not, but for those complaining about Dylan Mcllrath, I think he was just a throw in so Florida could make cap. He is a UFA after this season. Think of this trade as essentially Vanek for a 3rd rounder.

W What does any of this have to do with today? Ericsson - Why would any team trade for an injured player at the trade deadline? Truly ask yourself this? If you were another GM, would you be skeptical trading for E and his contract? If you were, but were still leaning towards getting him, why would you do it at the trade deadline? A player like E, if traded would be traded in the summer. Howard - See Ericsson Nyquist - There is no need to trade Nyquist unless its a player for player trade or 1st round picks. This is the kind of guy you want to use when trying to acquire a top 4 D-man. I have no idea why you have such hate for him. Its like now that Franzen is gone you need another Swede to scapegoat. Helm - Not going there with you again, this was the entire summer with you. Green (I think you mentioned him earlier) - He will probably have more value next season when he is in his final year. Teams would love a player like him for a playoff run, but some teams may be hesitant about his 6mil cap-hit for next season. Relax.

I think this just speaks to the parity of today's NHL. Sure you have your cream of the crop (ie. Chicago, Pittsburgh) but the rest of the league is pretty close in terms of skill level, and even if some aren't the rules make them close (ie. the loser point). All it takes is a player or two, or on the flip side an injury or two to completely sky rocket or nose dive in the standings

The trade deadline is for mostly UFA's. Expecting others traded is just unrealistic unless the player is a can't miss. Even green may be more valuable next year as this season teams have to worry about his 6mil caphit for next year.

Pretty much agree with you 100%. I can't give an A+ on account of the Vanek trade, but at the same time I believe he got the best possible. A+ would only be given if he deified the market. Overall I was really happy with Kenny.

My favourite moments were probably the back to back matches with Shawn Michaels. Ohhhh wrong streak sorry Off the top of my head 1) 2008 Game 5 double OT. They traded a soon to be UFA and solid scorer for the best offer available. Would you have preferred they keep him for nothing? Also, a 3rd round pick is not "chump change". Just off the top of my head, Kris Letang, Tyson Barrie, and Shayne Gostisbehere were all 3rd rounders. Unlikely to find a stud Center in the 3rd, but high end D-men typically come in the later rounds

Overall I am disappointed with the deal, but I do believe Holland got the best deal possible. I admit I overestimated Vanek's value, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. Vanek is a player who has had a roller coaster career, so naturally teams are leery. Not to mention wingers simply have less value then centers and d-men come this time of year. Just look at what other wingers got: Iginla - 2018 Conditional 4th-Round Pick Stafford - conditional 6th-Round Pick P.A. Parenteau - 2017 6th-Round Pick Dwight King - 2018 Conditional 4th-Round Pick Vrbata - Not even traded
