While I agree that a team is not going to give us a pick to take on Franzen's contract, that's not exactly true about Datsyuk's contract. We traded our 1st for their 1st and 2nd pick along with Vitale/Datsyuk being involved. So while we did move down a few spots in the 1st, we gained a 2nd. Franzen's contract next year is I believe 2mil in cash, then I believe it drops to 1mil but the caphit is just shy of 4mil. I think at some point he will be traded to Arizona like Datsyuk and Pronger. I think the same thing will happen to Zetterberg at some point.

Give yourself a pat on the back for this one Kenny.

High draft picks are the key to finding the future cornerstones of your team. The higher the pick, the greater the probability. As stacked as we are with mid level players, we lack elite players. The draft is our best chance of obtaining some.

A good GM tries to get the best deal he can. You can't blame Holland for attempting to get a 1st for Vanek (he still may). With that being said, if he gets nothing then this is definitely a complete failure on Holland's part.

http://www.stresstostrength.com/anticipatory-stress/ Fingers crossed, now that the major players are off the table the ball is in Holland's court. Hopefully he is able to get a good return for our UFA's. If we can end up with two 1st's and a 2nd for Sheahan, Vanek, and Smith, I will be fricken elated!

As much as I respect the season Budaj is having this year, I wouldn't trust him in a deep playoff run, and if they are not 100% sure about Quick's health, it completely makes sense.
-
That's a good question, the only way I can see it is if LV has a lot of money to spend, they could throw stupid money at a player that is way above market value that they wouldnt come July 1st, other then that I dont know why. I wouldn't if I was a player.

That is actually where I got the handle lol

I wrote about it in the other thread in more detail. Here is the rule: The expansion draft rules won’t allow for teams to leave free agents unprotected in order to scare Las Vegas away. The league’s newest club will get a 48-hour window to work out a deal with any free agents — restricted or unrestricted — before the expansion draft.

Vegas has an early window http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/las-vegas-will-have-exclusive-48-hour-window-to-negotiate-with-unprotected-free-agents "The expansion draft rules won’t allow for teams to leave free agents unprotected in order to scare Las Vegas away. Yes that's right. Vegas can speak with 100% off UFA's and if they sign one prior to the expansion draft, that signing counts as their "pick" from the team the player came from.
-
Correct, you cant expose a UFA but LV has the right to speak with any of them.
-
I think the way it works is they are able to negotiate with him first, and if they sign him (which they can do prior to July 1st) it counts as their pick. The benefit would be you are guaranteed the player, opposed to if you wait until July 1st, then any other team can outbid you. I guess it all depends on how good the other players on said team are that you have to choose from.

I don't disagree it was a smart move to trade Budaj, I just feel for him. I would trade Howard/Tatar or Mrazek/Tatar for Quick in a heartbeat.
-
Is Erik Cernak supposed to be really good? I know nothing about him, If not, seems like a pretty s***ty return for TB. For an elite goaltender they get back a 7th, a goalie who is set to be a UFA, and Cernak. Now if Cernak is a stud in the waiting, I take it back.
-
Got to feel bad for Budaj. The guy stood on his head all year, and now he's out of the playoff picture, nice reward for strong play. Hopefully he gets traded to a contender.
-
What! I dont get this at all. Quick just came back yesterday, and Budaj is playing great this year.
-
But may crack top 9 on arguably the best team in the NHL, go figure Frank. That's parity.

I dont think Jurco would have been a superstar if put in a better position (not that anyone is saying that), but at the same time I don't think he would have been as bad as he was. IMO Jurco is one of those players who has something in him, but needs the right situation to bring it out of him. There are certain players out there that are simply great or just very good, and if you put them anywhere they will thrive. There are other players out there that just don't have "it" and you can put them anywhere and they won't thrive. Jurco was neither of these, he was a guy who if put in the right situation could probably produce like a very good (not great) player, but if put in a bad situation (like he was) would not produce at all. I think he has a ceiling of a Nyquist/Tatar maybe even better if put in a perfect situation, and a floor of what we saw last season.
-
Agreed. Even if he bounces back, I dont think him at his best is even worth a 1st rounder. I do want to say though, the buzz on twitter was from second tier sources, take it with a grain of salt.
-
Oh ok, that makes more sense. I like XO a lot, but I dont see him getting claimed, and even if he does compared to other teams out there I dont think its going to be a big loss. I think LV will take one of Howard, Helm, Abby, or Sheahan. Fingers crossed for E!
-
Why would we put XO on waivers? Did Holland say this and I missed it?
-
There is buzz on twitter that they may give up a first.....this must be BS. If Holland can get a 1st round pick for Sheahan, that would be awesome!
-
I didn't mean he doesn't believe it, my point is its really not "interesting" its obvious. He clearly see's something in Jurco or he wouldnt have given a third up. I think the 3rd round pick speaks for itsself.
-
Not really....he gave up a third rounder, he cant come out and say "Kids been a bust, want to give him a shot". He has to say this.
