I'm on the fence when in comes to Franzen. He has talent and ability, no doubt about it. He's also very reasonably priced when it comes to his cap hit and production. Then again, it seems like a lot of his points are meaningless and/or come in spurts. If we keep him, I think it would be ideal to keep him on the third line. He will match up far better against other teams' third liners and be less of a liability in the d-end.

I like the skyline in the top corner. As a goalie myself I always thought it would be cool to do a hodgepodge of different detroit landmarks like the people mover, rencen, spirit of detroit, joe lous fist, maybe throw a 313 in there, and of course: robocop. Give me all of that in all red on a white background with a red cage. I think it would be pretty gangster, in a good way.

It's not ridiculous. Earlier in the thread you argued that we have to consider the salary cap. The fact of the matter is that players of Fedorov's calibre in the prime of their careers don't get signed to five year deals these days. This is because the amount of salary they command would be prohibitive to the cap. Therefore, they are signed to deals where they get paid an average of $60-$75 mil over over the first five years. Their salary tapers off towards the end to account for a predictable drop in production. These front loaded contracts basically combine 2-3 contracts that a player would have signed over the course of its term length. The salary due towards te end of the term is comparable to what an older star would paid on a new contract. Look at what Crosby and weber make in the first five years of their contracts. Both deals average 10-15 mil per year in the first five years.

Why LOL? Lidstrom and Jagr were the highest paid players in the league when they were making that much. Weber is getting paid over $25 mil in bonuses in each of the first two years of his contract. Weber's cap hit may not be that high but that's because it's 14 years in order to bring the cap hit down. Such practices were unheard of pre-salary cap. It is by no means a stretch to say that a Fedorov in his prime could earn such a salary today. I think it's really lame how people use LOL in order to disparage a totally legitimate post. Edit: what I'm trying to say is that If Feds was in his prime today he would probably get locked up in a long term deal that pays him in the neighborhood of $50-$60 mil in the first 5 years. Cap hit is not the same as salary.

I doubt that this will happen, but it would be awesome. For those of you who don't want subban because he's cocky, that's jus ridiculous. His on ice production is what matters, nothing else. Patrick eaves is cocky as hell. He walks into restaurants and says "hey, I'm Patrick eaves the hockey player". So unless you have legitimate complaints about subban's play, give it a rest.

I have not heard anyone give an actual reason for not wanting subban aside from an unverified claim that he is locker room cancer. I don't think it's going to happen, but I'd be delighted to have subban. He still hasn't hit his prime.

Those of you on the verge of a rage stroke should take solace in the fact that he is going to be in hockey purgatory for the rest of his career. Do not take this as an indictment on the wings, that would be a signing with the pens. This is a blessing in disguise. Suter is very talented but not worth the commitment we were ready to make. I would rather be successful due to homegrown talent anyway, not because we hired a bunch of mercenaries. Now everyone go the f*** outside and enjoy your holiday.

Thanks for the memories. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. He'll be alongside his sons for their development over the next few years. With a bit luck we sign one or both of them and get to enjoy another 20+ years of a lidstrom on the roster.

I wish LGW was a sports bar. It would be hilarious to see a bunch of grown ass men acting like this in the real world. The things some of you guys say about the players is ridiculous. They're human beings playing a game which has no bearing on areas of your life aside from your fandom. I have read instances of people wishing injury upon players, which is totally f***ed. If i were a psychiatrist or a gastroenterologist (for your ulcers) I would plaster my ads all over this site.
