11/23 GDT: Red Wings 2, at Buffalo Sabres 1 (SO)
joesuffP replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in 2016-17
I don't think theirs any strategy Blashill can come up with that will make this team good. Might as well let Larkin play centre at this point -
Hammond on waivers
-
I would just sit tight on trades if Mantha/AA and co are the only way to make it happen. Getting Fowler isn't going to make us a good team and the more experienced these prospects get the more they'll fetch in a trade. If Nyquist and Tatar weren't discovered as frauds the trade for a new dman would be a no brainer. Sit tight and wait for a good draft pic maybe make a deal at the deadline but don't trade our hyped young guys
-
The more games we lose the more likely Holland is to give up on this whole playoff scheme.
-
Expect losses going into every game wins are a pleasant surprise. Worst wings team since the 80's
-
Hate Blashill's interviews. Just spouting random cliche after cliche. Babs was the best. Blunt and to the point
-
I wouldn't look too deeply into those tweets it's just experts speculating based on our needs and theirs. I won't get excited until I hear Holland is meeting with GM's
-
At least we took out Stamkos
-
Regardless, the Helm contract is awful and will fit in with all the other terrible contracts signed in the last few years. Besides RFA's and Alfredsson and Vanek. Holland hasn't signed a good contract since the glory days Problem is, does the Illitch family care enough about hockey to make a much needed change? If attendance tanks are they going to tighten the budget and become a bottom feeder team.
-
I hate blaming the refs for this game just because the Wings played such a terrible game but the game was tied late and the refs didn't call a clear hook on dekeseyer on a scoring chance then they went and scored
-
I fancy myself a Nyquist fan. He's had some good games but he's supposed to be a leader and is falling well short. Tatar on the other hand has been a mess all season he brings no positives when he's off his game. I sighed every time he touched the puck tonight no exaggeration
-
Imagine being so delusional you can't for one second blame the goal scorers on this team for not scoring goals. No Glendening is the reason we can't score. This teams problems start at the top. The guys getting paid a lot, getting a lot of minutes and power play time and are doing nothing. Enough excuses for these guys
-
honestly think Glendening is more likely to create a goal than Tatar at this point Im starting to come around on Blashill actually. I think holland just hitched his wagon to the wrong guys in a major way. DD, Tatar, Nyquist and Abby being your go to guys means your a bad team. I don't need Corsi numbers to show me that when they handle the puck the other team is handling it shortly after. I thought Glendening had a great game btw. You're blaming all the teams issues on guys who play great defense with less ice time that are close to the same point totals as the offensive leaders on this team. The offense sucks because our offensive players suck plus players put in a position to fail..Dekeseyer. The struggles start at the top the guys leading the team in minutes and PP time
-
You're delusional if you think there isn't huge question marks if Mrazek is going to be a quality number one in the NHL going further, much less a star. He hasn't proved anything more than the 'average at best' Jimmy Howard did early in his career. Being this bad when it's your chance to reclaim your #1 spot leads me to believe he has all the tools but lacks the mental aspect to be great... De Ja Vu eh These Mrazek homers are really just Jimmy bashers. Feels great to be able to watch a game without having invested stock into certain players so I can make unbiased criticism

Edit

I hate watching Tatar play hockey and Nyquist isn't far behind him. These are the guys we count on to score right there and their consistently some of the worst skaters game after game. Bring some positives out there if you aren't scoring. They have nothing to add to this team right now On D Dekeseyer is just not a good hockey player. Good skater and good stick but how does that justify giving this man the most minutes game after game. He can't play with the puck. You aren't a good defensmen if your entire game is based away from the puck. He was a fraud and is now exposed. Hype player got paid now we're screwed
-
Nobody gets a chance to play offense because nobody can win battles. You want Nyquist and Tatar on the same line? The team needs to be waaaaay stronger on the puck. Montreal is our krytonite. They're just as fast as us but work their asses off every shift and are aggressive. They are a very well coached team that follows the gameplan
-
I think this teams largest problem is winning battles. Sometimes they're good for a period or two or even a whole game then they win games. Other times they get embarrassed like against Montreal. They can't consistently play strong and fast. Sooner or later they revert to their timid selves. It affects offense, defense and special teams when you simply can't win battles
-
Larkin leading with 5 is about as much as you can ask for the kid on a offensively inept team. The difference between us and a good offense is power play. That's where the high scoring teams pad their goals and get easy wins
-
Edit: wrong thread
-
Stopped watching halfway through the second but Howard just wasn't making saves. It was 3-0 after the first and they had one quality scoring chance. Outplayed for sure but the game was over way too fast for our 'strength' at goaltending
-
Admittedly turned it off after the first. I think what makes Montreal good and Detroit bad is puck battles. Detroit will be be relentless on the puck 1 of 6 games but Montreal does it every night. It affects your offense, defense and special teams
-
Well seems like Howard hasn't even made a save
-
This is where Blashill needs to improve. When things aren't going your way he has to make adjustments. Not just switch the lines And ya Mantha not looking 'too good for the AHL'
-
This is what it looks like to be outworked on every puck. Gonna have to get really lucky
