Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Huge difference between signing someone for two years at 5M and 6 years at 10M. Radulov is a stop gap guy and Stamkos is the face of your franchise for the next decade. This team has way too many holes to expect Stamkos to magically make them a contender. We don't even have a ready #2 center, big body top six, we only have one good defense men etc... That's not a good thing when you're up against the cap as well. Wings won't be a real serious team until Z, Kronwall and E are gone even if they did add Stamkos -

The 09 Red Wings were better than the 08. If not for injuries... -

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
joesuffP replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
If it's a one year deal who cares. Even if he failed miserably and scored 35 points he'd be one of our more productive forwards. I can't see a one year deal hurting this team in any way -

A skilled winger that can put up points is exactly what we need but on a short deal because the future is what we're focusing on. It's better to have the kids get better through having a competent team that can compete -

1 year deal is no risk at all. If it doesn't work out then who cares and if he's great for us then resign him. I can't see Holland handing out lengthy term to anybody but Stamkos. So either we win the lottery, make a nice safe deal or potentially have a much worse season than last year -

Quincey wasn't very good. He won't be getting top 4 money from any other teams -

I can't see teams being dumb enough to give him 3+ years, especially Holland. In order for the Wings to sign him it would have to be a safe deal in which I'm all for. It allows the wings to be competent enough to allow the young guys to mature without mortgaging the future -
Abby made team USA among an impressive group of forwards

Don't know much about Gundarsson (spelling?) that the Canucks traded for but is this a deal the Wings should have been in on? 6'5" future top four defensemen

2016 SCF: San Jose Sharks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Ya after the first round I was really impressed by the Sharks. Was saying they'd win the cup ever since they just look to be firing on all cylinders and deserving of their victories... Unlike the Lightning. They'd get dominated and somehow manage wins really pissed me off -

Our D kind of went to crap after Q returned from injury -
I want Mantha to become a Rick Nash, Blake Wheeler type. If he starts moving his feet at all times and skating like the wind like he can he can be a big factor on both ends of the ice. He doesn't have to be creaming people every game but be strong along the boards and getting back and covering a lot of ice, that also helps his offensive game. You don't forget how to shoot and make plays because you're responsible defensively

I've been saying this Sharks team is the real deal. Plan the parade. Penguins will be a tough test but I see the Sharks taking it home in the end

I think everybody has their idea of the best team and their makeup. Me personally, I feel you need good centers that are defensively responsible first and foremost. Having a guy like Kopitar, Bergeron and Z + D in their prime is ideal. I don't think a great team has to have a 50 goal scorer but the goals have to come from somewhere. That could come from elite wingers, quality depth or high scoring defense. On D I think us having a defence group like Washington's is most likely. Not outstanding skill wise but very well balanced. I personally lean towards d men like Weber, Suter and Petrianglo over guys like Subban and Karlsson. Although I think Hedman was the best defensemen in the NHL this year I think come playoff time we are usually seeing the more defensively responsible teams going deep more consistently imo -

I can see this. Blashill is a lot like Babs he expects a lot out of his centermen but mostly safe defensive play before before offense. Richards isn't great defensively, mostly because of his skating, but he's not going to make careless plays with the puck that we might see more from AA if he starts getting a lot of minutes It's frustrating, especially since we struggle to score but I understand this philosophy and we see more centermen in the league like Toews and Kopitar having more team success then guys like Duchene and maybe a reason Stamkos doesn't play centre for Cooper -

Well it means Benn and Seguin will be expecting 10M per... Toews getting 10M per year means Bergeron could ask for something close. Toews and Kane signed benchmark deals, anybody close to their level is now asking that much or should be asking for that much -

The salary cap really needs to go up with these guys expecting 10M a year -
Would like to see Mantha scoring more goals but admittedly I am unable to watch any of the Griffins games so I probably shouldn't be speaking on his play I think Mantha is going to be somewhat of a project. It will take some time and patience for him to be everything he is capable of; a Perry type goal scorer. It's never too late for him to add a physical element to his game either

WCSF : Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks
joesuffP replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
We could've been just like this Sharks team if there wasn't such a gap between our high end young talent and Dats and Z. Larkin and co would need more experience as well Sharks are in a really good situation right now. Great mix of high end talent in their prime mixed with some great vets that still contribute heavily -

Sure we have history with the Sharks but to I'm pretty much over it. The Sharks are a pretty likeable team to me and they play a good brand of hockey. Pavelski and Burns are awesome I think it's the Sharks year. Their best players are playing like there best players and also getting very solid production from secondary scorers plus their power play is lethal. They got a lot going for them right now
