I always liked Ray Ferraro... He really understand all the little nuances in the game Also Mike Johnson I think his name is? Young guy. Really gets today's game The rest are awful I used to love listening to Bob Cole come playoff time but he's definitely lost it -

Can't remember his name but this CBC announcer is too old to keep up with the game he has no clue what's going on He's an iconic announcer but he needs to hang it up. Sheahan had a breakaway and he had no clue it was even a scoring chance -

Inexcusable to get out battled that many times by the defense... When flippula knocks you back when you try and hit him you are doing something wrong. Can't just lose battle over and over behind your net -

Not a bad period just have to dig a little deeper, win some more battles and get them on their heels. Suprised by Tatar and Nyquist they are playing well Green will be scratched tomorrow -
I like the lines. Balance all the way through and I believe ice time will go to those who deserve it only the rookies will be glued to the bench when protecting a lead in the third. Better just get used to Blashill's approach, it makes sense if you think about it. We are not a good offensive team even with Mantha and Smith in the lineup so you have to take a different approach. Tampa will out score us even if we go all speed balls to the wall offense
-
Right now we got Tatar, Nyquist, AA who can't play defense but have proven to be able to score and be effective in a limited role and that's enough of those kind of guys. We can't have half the team unable to take defensive zone face offs Mantha dominating the AHL playoffs And being a go to guy is more beneficial for his development anyways. He hasn't come close to being the leader offensively of the Griffins so that's a little concerning
-
I have to agree that our best chance to win a 7 game series is a greuling defensive chess match with matching lines.... Adding Mantha, Smith and giving AA significant time may seem like it adds limitless offense which it doesn't and will almost retained make us certainly defensively

Saarijarvi assigned to the Griffins per WiiM Twitter

The playoffs is where Darren Helm shines. I've been frustrated with Helm in the top six before but when he recognizes his role like he does in the playoffs and just plays high energy relentless puck pursuit he is a huge asset. Not to mention he's been one of our most productive forwards down the stretch Helm, Abby and Glendening are very important parts of this team come playoff time. Sure we may lose a game where we only score 1 or less goals but that's the chess game of hockey. One teams gameplan will prevail and one will fail. I'm sure the Caps or Penguins will get shut out sometime during these playoffs but it's not because their offense sucks, it's because they got beat
-
While eventually we want Mantha to be a Rick Nash Blake Wheeler type who uses his size and wins battles and is defensively sound. Can't expect management to be satisfied with him playing like Pulkinnen when he's got that skill set/ physicality... He'll learn and he's become better already in the AHL being a more well rounded player

Free Press: Pavel Datsyuk to return to Russia following Playoffs

Now in the offseason we will all get our hopes up to sign Stamkos and then he'll sign in Toronto like Babs -
Holland's comments seem to be strategic. It's pretty out of character of him to bash a young kid. My only thought is he's trying to motivate him to be a go to guy in the AHL and a deep playoff run. Mantha needs to learn to become the offensive force of the Griffins, if not the entire AHL before we can label him a future prolific NHL scorer. He got a taste of NHL action now he needs to take another step. No excuse to be second fiddle to guys like Frk and Tangardi. It's not about if he could help this lousy Red Wings team it's about what's best for his NHL development as a high end player. He's in a really delicate time in his development where he can either accept the kind of mediocre player he is or strive to be the best. Btw don't agree with Holland calling him out at all but I'm sure Mantha has sat down with management and discussed his future and understands

AA and Mantha are often not back helping the defense on breakouts and are too far up ice on the outlet pass. That and just general strength is needed to win board battles. Not a lot of rookies have the strength at that age to be great defensive players

Is this a bigger distraction knowing he's leaving or speculating he'll be back? This feels like when Lidstrom left and we got spanked by Nashville -
It sucks but I think people had there blinders on for Mantha. He wasn't ready defensively/positionally. He probably has more to galn from being the #1 guy in the AHL playoffs. The fact that he isn't leading the team offensively shows he still has a lot to learn even at the AHL level. Good for him to get some games in the NHL and get to score in Montreal but I'd rather him take another step in his development than play 1:42 a game like Andersson will be getting

Wings need a major lineup change if they expect different results in the playoffs. Putting Dats and Z together, giving AA a larger role, something needs to change. Could be a major rallying moment where the wings never look back. You have to get Nyqvist and Tatar and the Euro twins going or we don't have a chance offensively
-
So 29 straight appearances is the record in North American sports? Will be awesome to see the how the youngster respond to playoff hockey... Can't be any worse than Gus and Tatar against Boston AA to me seems to be the type of big moment player. You see he has extra energy when the wings need a boost. You know he'll be flying for his 3 shifts a game
