Brian Burke was quoted saying that one enforcers isn't enough, so I guess both are going to play on the fourth line giving them a one two punch. Yeah Westgarth didn't fight a lot but I guess that was mandated. I fully expect him and 'Gratts to cause Havok on the fourth line now.

Phaneuf signs seven-year extension with Maple Leafs.
frankgrimes replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
It's a fair contract for both sides, Phaneuf is a very good defender entering his prime years with a raising cap a raise of 0.5k/year isn't that much really. The guy is the captain of a team in a very difficult and media scrutinized market and still by far their best defender,so I guess it was a no brainer for Nonis. -
That's what I've thought from the start, they are the two best teams *if* they are "on".

gdt 1/1 Winter Classic 2014 GDT: Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 2 (F/SO)
frankgrimes replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
Happy new year guys and gals :-) Can't believe the monster didn't get the start unreal, he played well and made some outstanding saves. This will be the biggest and best WC game ever, two original 6 teams going at it with light snowfall, so bummed. My DVR is more than ready. That being said, I think we are going to see a shootout. -
GDT Alumni Game Lineup / Leafs @ Wings Alumni NBCS and CBC 1pm
frankgrimes replied to BottleOfSmoke's topic in General
So many alltime great, the perfect human as smooth as ever the guy could still play and probably better than a lot of the current defenseman on this team. -
Um rather not think about the outcome against both of them

Cali?

That first round pick according to Flames fans, couldn't even crack their injury rattled lineup last or this season. I like the approach by Burke here, he knows his team is going to be bad for some time, why not have some fun with it and add some protectors for the young guns and few remaining stars. Also Westgarth was playing for a Rutherford team, one of the worst GMs in the league known for his "make hockey like soccer" stance. Wouldn't surprise if he had told Westgarth not to fight or play with an edge, because poor Rutherford hates good ol' blue collar hockey.

Look a t the positives the more this edition sucks, the more changes will come in the off-season. I've said it all along no matter the outcome of this season, a serious house cleaning and change of playstyle will be needed. Given the less than good UFA list, not an easy task but thats why Kenny is getting paid big bucks..

The only one who I think is a sure thing = Danny K It's highly possible that a guy like Tatar, Jurco or Nyquist might get traded in the future.

Leafs/Wings 24/7 Episode 3 Discussion (12/28)
frankgrimes replied to Hockeymom1960's topic in General
That's the creepy part about it, I mean, Alfie almost showed his whole house. The wrong information in the hands of people with wrong intentions doesn't fit well. Personally I would have problems with showing my car too, because you never know with all those idiots and stalkers worldwide. -
I doubt the third string goalies are going to see a lot of ice time, sure it's nice to be nominated but if nothing dramatically happens it's going to be Quick > Miller > Howard. None the less this is a very good group to have.
-
I guess they would want some offense coming back, so maybe Jurco + a pick?

Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena
frankgrimes replied to Ally's topic in General
Sadly the Joe is ~ 14 hours (plane) away from where I life so I don't know how "outdated" it really is, but I always wanted to visit it one day all the history, great memories and the rafters would be just awesome to see. Sadly the city is paying some part of this, public money + private money + Olympia, acorrding to this article. -
Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena
frankgrimes replied to Ally's topic in General
I don't get it, why not just renovate the Joe? The city is bankrupt and yet these idiots are fine with using tax payers money to support a billonair. Why not use your own money for stuff like that? With that Wilson guy running the arena plans I don't have a lot of confidence in the new building, I'm sure it wont be named after a Detroit legend or the best owner in all of sports, it will be a name sponsored by whatever company is paying the most, filled with even more places for the damn suits and not enough room to stand up and cheer for the real fans. Just look at Pittsburgh their arena is outstanding but 0 atmosphere and passion, thanks to the suits. -

*Having six outdoor games is stupid * If the highways are already overcrowded or a country is already overpopulated stop building massive apartments and stop letting everyone and their mother in the country * Don't tell me I have to have an opinion on - insert whatever news is hot right now - if I care enough, chances are I might have read it already if not I don't care at all. Even if everybody and their grandchildren are talking about it * Don't tell me I have to get rid off my physical handykeyboard because smartphones are "in" guess what? I like to type fast and structured SMS something I *personally* can't do equally with touch screens * If soccer would be interesting, fast and filled with great tough athletes and played on ice it would be called hockey :-) * I'd rather spend 1.000 §on a good surround system instead of wasting it on a great TV, when I'll barely watch it nowadays * Rogers sucks * dressing up in expensive cloths doesn't mean I have to be impressed with you * new =/= always better i.e handy -
Leafs/Wings 24/7 Episode 3 Discussion (12/28)
frankgrimes replied to Hockeymom1960's topic in General
I liked the show but kudos to players from both teams, I wouldn't allow them to film my house, family and gf that's just too far into privacy. Hats off to Danny K for signing all these autographs while just wanting to eat something, another great example of why hockeyplayers are the most humble team sport athletes by far and bar none. Loved how Alfie talked about keeping their swedish traditions but also adjusting to the american lifestyle, man would I have loved to have this guy in his prime here. Also the difference between Babcock and Carlyle is huge, now I can see why the players are getting sick of his act it's always "compete, let's go, work hard" Babs on the other side is giving instructions on what to and how to do it beetter. I also think this show could need more Orr and Frazer McLaren seeing both of these mammoths train and preparing for fights would be nice. btw. thanks for the link I'd advise everyone to download it before they take it down btw 2 the quality is superb nice job -
So next gen consoles? Who is making the jump
frankgrimes replied to frankgrimes's topic in Water Cooler
Personally I've decided to buy the Ps 4 next holiday season, should be enough time to release some quality games hopefully 2K is going to enter the sports genre in terms of hockey again. Other than that, I'm looking forward to Mortal Kombat. Not a fan of CoD or BF -
this leaves Vanek as the only top UFA come july 1. Would have easily given him 7/49 the guy is a number 1 defenseman and can provide a team with lots of minutes, great player. Fixing this mess of a defense just became harder.

Very good point and maybe that's true but how many Olympians are on this team? Pasha, Z obviously then Kronwall(ed), Alfie and Monster but other than that I don't see a lot of potential Olympians. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in between all these theories but one thing is for sure, the roster is flawed and lacks identity. oh and by the way the injury excuse is funny, other teams are having injury problems too so like Babcock said, the available guys have to do their job.
-
Both coaches already said that the cameras are a distraction and that's why they've bee banned once things started to get ugly, but the fac t of the matter is that this edition has been streaky as hell since the beginning of the season. I hope Kenny is finally using financial muscle and offersheets some guys that could help this team in the offseason.
-
A coach can only do so much with a pretty average roster.
-
Jay Bowmeester and Alex Pietrangelo god I wish we could have such a pairing they are unreal.
-
There is a differense between a loaded team with high expectations and a behind the pack team that needs to work hard, in order to win games.
