remember the Mantha situatuon? Before last season a lot of people were ready to give him a top line spot then he broke his foot , struggled a bit in the AHL and some were ready to deal him.The term generational talents is not my own doing it's been used by professional scouts, gms and even coaches to describe those 2. I mean the last time this league saw such a huge tank battle was back in 2006 when Crosby was the big price. So far Larkin has exceeded all my expectations and that feeling is great but I also know he is only 18 and will struggle at some point which is fine, in the long run he will be an awesome addition. that being said there are lot of players I'd trade him for, him being a Michigan kid would make it even harder but still got someone like Toews, Ekblad you bet. My bad should have said for a signed Stamkos...there is not one rental in this league I'd be willing to deal Larkin or Mantha for.

Watch highlights from Eichel, McDavid and tell me again they are overhyped. Buffalo doesn't have a guy like Z, Pasha leading the way Eichel is by far their best selling jersey and already the most popular player on the team, same goes for Edmonton with McDavid although they have Hall, RNH, Nurse and maybe a new upcoming powerforward in LD. We are not talking about trading him for prospects here some of the lists are including the best of the best in this league and yes for a guy like Toews, Stamkos.... I don't even need to think twice about it (not that it would ever happen mind you). Better question would be would I trade him for his REALISTIC value no I wouldn't because the rest of the league wouldn't give up what the Wings need and secondly if he continues to develop on his insane speed he will ease the pain when Pasha is gone a bit.
-
Wow that's a new galaxy of overhyping a prospect. I'm a huge huge Larkin fan and I think him or Danny D are going to be the next captain of this team. That being said the guy is playing his first season in the NHL and no sane GM would ever trade one of - not even talking about the best player in the world - for him. Just for fun: Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Keith, Weber, Suter, Hedman, Pietrangelo, Crosby, Letang, Stamkos, Benn, Seguin, OEL, McDavid, Eichel, Backes, Ekblad, Price, Doughty, Quick, Tavares, Getzlaf, Perry, Giroux...

Making the rinks larger will do nothing and honestly it will never happen. The arenas today are multifunctional no sane owner will agree to shut them down for a few weeks and risk losing a lot of revenue, it's just not going to happen. Also players, coaches would figure out in a hurry how to take away the new space (i.e. olympic ice). Well I don't care if it helps star-forwards they are STAR forwards so they should be able to score a bunch of goals and assists right? Funny nobody is saying let's help the star defenders doing their job, so why help the forwards? I personally couldn't care less if a new fan is turned away because his favorite player hasn't scored 100 points and "only" managed to get lets say 88. Honestly 100 points should be the exception (a highlight) in a players career not the norm. Gretzky is hands down the best player who ever played the game but back then goalies - with the few obvious exceptions - weren't as atheltic and well trained as they are now. Never understood why people are so fixated on 3 digit numbers if its that important they can go watch the NBA. I think a lot of fans are protective (not that it matters what he think anyways..) of the game because some of the changes have all been for the worst: hockey in places with ECHL like attendances, salary cup, instigator rule, constant twinkering with the ASG till it has become basically a joke. Also Ovechkin is not a playermaker he is a finisher, which means he will score more goals and have less assists so I doubt he'll ever reach 100 or whatever points. Another reason why the game "used to be higher scoring" is owners were able to aDD and KEEP all-star-talent that isn't the case anymore, players have to get used to new linemates, find new chemistry and need time to figure it out. And now people want to punish goalies for being reallyreally good? Doesn't make sense to me.
-
If fans aren't protective of their game it will get worse each year simple as that. it's your opinion so you aren't wrong bit you are focussing only on the star forwards which I think is a mistake because there are superstars on the defense and in goal too. If a potential fan can't appreciate a low scoring game a great blocked shot, fantastic safe well maybe then hockey isn't the right sport to follow for them pure and simple. My novel idea if someone wants to get 100 points is. .play your rear end of and hope to stay injury free. The nhl is the best league in the world scoring goals is and should be tough star forwards will need to figure out a way to do it. The goalies then played mostly a stand up style and more often than not weren't in good shape that's changed now
-
here is my novel idea: If goal scorers are having problems to figure out a defense or shot blocking find a way around it simple as that.

I think it's incredible stupid want more goal scoring go watch the NBA with triple digit scores. Just saw the highlights from that Ottawa Dallas game both played like they don't know what defense means and the goaltending was average at best. That's not exciting Right now the game just lacks some other elements that made it must watch TV like more and harder hits, fights and the occasional line brawls. Some people just can't embrace the fact that goaltenders are now extremely good athletes too. I want the goals to have an impact and tight games accomplish that. I'm sure it's damn hard to score on Price , King Henrik and Rinne but so what they are the elite of the elite for a reason. there is no need for tinkering it would just make the game more gimmicky and that's the last thing we need. If anything bring back the fantastic old-school hockey instead of making the current game even worse

Mr. I is the best owner in all of sports the amount of money he is willing to spend in order to get his teams to the desired land is just unbelievable. But you are right that revenue number is very low. That being said an Original 6 franchise will always sell well because the following is there it the question is will the buyer go the extra mile and even beyond that to bring the cup back...and judging by some owners in the NHL a lot aren't

CBJ board someone mentioned if JK would to deal him it's Jones and Forsberg. Poile isn't an idiot I don't think he even considers that and I'm a fan of Johanson. As usual HF takes the cake...with names like Ekblad who might be the most untouchable Panther right now
-
He is playing for Tortarella a guy known to get guys asking for trades and putting Torts team on their NTC NMC lists Oh well just read that the CBJ are looking for Jones AND Forsberg that's just crazy
-
I think Columbus is dreaming if they believe they'll get Jones from Nashville. Now that the cat is out of the bag they are dealing from a position of weakness...maybe Jenner is the next one wanting out boy that would be cool

I'm talking about the stadium series jerseys alone I think most of them - exception Wild - absolutely suck. I absolutely loved our WC jerseys. That stylized D reminds of the Ducks "icon" why not stylize the winged wheel a bit?
-
Wow that's surprising thought the Leafs would the most valueable franchise again. conclusions from this list: - Wings are (again ) worth the least from all Original 6 franchises - the league wants 500 mill expansion fee yet only 11 teams are worth more than 500 mill, 6 of them being original 6 teams. Dream some more NHL.. - with the exception of the Habs all Canadian teams lost some value (very surprising) - surprised that the Pens aren't worth more with that much talent
-
from all the ones shown so far Minnesotta has the best by a mile. Only thing I like about the Wings one are the gloves other than that not impressed But hey they absolutely mailed with the cool WC jackets

Usually I'm not against signing players to 7, 8 years but a guy who isn't in great-shape, overweight and getting up in age? Whichever team is going to offer something like 7x7 will deeply regret it sooner than later, if he doesn't take his fitness-level more seriously.

it may not have been the best analogy but I did the job. Like I've said till your quote I've had no clue about his stance on it. Also if you remember I was only one of the guys unhappy with how he handled Too too. I'm saying he is the best in the world based on his past success be it with Anaheim, the Wings or team Canada. I mean I also think McLellan, Sutter, Q, Vigneault and Julien are great coaches yet I don't know what they are or aren't using. But I will say this I highly doubt Babcock is only using this new movement for his decisions You would be surprised by how many people hated the Devils type of play but yet call their D the best. I mean people hated the 1-3-1 from Bouche too yet it worked so what? I mean it doesn't matter one bit what I or anyone else thinks of Babcocks methods whatever he has done and keeps on doing seems to work...right? Still it doesn't mean I have to agree with everything. As long as Lamoriello is happy with the stuff he does Babs will be the coach and same goes for team Canada. Yes they aren't for me and if they are for others it's fine with me but there really isn't any need to constantly shove them on people that just don't care about it. Like I've said try reading a few HF threads which are full with this stuff on a phone it flat out sucks and keep in mind the advanced crowd has a whole board their dedicated to them, so why not discuss this stuff only with like minded people? I mean some of us physicality fans have hockeyfights.com I'm sure there is something like that for the advanced crowd too. Ok, fine advanced stats aren't going away but they will never replace the eye test nor real scouting. I mean we've all seen were constant tweaking fixing things that aren't broken has led to... an inferior NHL product compared to 2000's and yes I know revenues are up but that has more to do with the explosion of the internet and HD TV.

This whole thing is ridiculous:- can't sign UFAs cause of the ******* cap - can't trade for top defenders because of the cap and they are a very rare bread - with the new lottery system even tanking won't be the key to get them it's like the league wants teams to win solely based on draft luck which is killing the game. The cap is turning the job of being a GM into a nightmare If an owner is willing to spend he should be able to go out there and pay whatever he deems reasonable At some point wings will need a top guy to pair him with Danny D. but Kenny will have to work some magic to make it happen.
-
Well I also thought Jobs was the best presenter in the IT world and still didn't buy any of his products because they're too limited and internet-focused for the stuff I need to do. Same with Babcock just because I think he is the best one in the game doesn't mean I have to agree with everything, right? I'm not interested in this new movement, according to that quote he is extremely interested fine but that doesn't change anything for me. I mean if you think someone is the best at something does it mean you have to agree with everything? I highly doubt that. Part of what he did was impressive enough for me and to be honest I had no clue if he was pro- or anti this new movement. I also don't agree with him being much more PR involved since joining the Leafs which still doesn't take away from the fact, that I - and the team Canada braintrust seems to agree - think that he is the best coach in hockey.
-
If that's his opinion fine, doesn't mean I have to share it nor does it change my believe that he is the best coach in hockey. If I would rank coaches, management only by their stance on that new movement - and yes it's extremely new - I would have to say Burke is the best GM in hockey and Wilson probably the best coach, which is clearly not the case. Yes they are but teams still need them right? If your assumption is true and the line of "being able to skate harder" is a reference to his back than I'll gladly the take the work-ethic assumption back and hope that you are right and we'll see a fully healthy Jurco soon.
-
Will miss the Wings analysis from his father on Leafs Lunch. Landon never complained tried hard but sadly it hasn't worked out for him here so best of luck in Boston, he should be able to make that roster with all the injury problems.
-
Since reading seems a bit too hard, I rewrite it in bold: I don't care about that stuff if you do fine, create a topic dedicated to it with tons of heat-maps, pagelong correlations or whatever. How about be nice and understand that others aren't interested. Hockey existed before advanced stats and it will exist after them. Given the need for a grittier 4 line player, yes. I've stated Biggs is nothing special but he is a 4 liner with some 3 line updside. This has nothing to do with NA vs Euro kid because I think neither the Wings nor the Penguins are so far happy with either player. If Jurco puts it together and get his work-ethic going (I've mentioned it) it would be a win-win situation for all sides involved but that's a big if obviously the guy has talent.I just don't see whats so bad about sending a kid down, to work on things because the coaching stuff and management has seen some flaws? Heck the former mentioned Biggs had to go to the ECHL for a stint to get his act together. If Jurco turns out to become the player you hope he could be I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong.
-
See that's a whole different approach than stating that people are only allowed to discuss stuff if they educate themselves with this movement. I mean I've said it before I appreciate the talent some of these guys but the way they come off is very arrogant and almost Sheldon Cooper like just not as funny. For me personally watching the game and seeing who had a good game and who didn't is enough and let's be honest nobody will ever be able to understand a coaching decision because there is so much more going into it..like training sessions chemistry ...Sad thing is Wings could have had Biggs instead of Jurco if Anaheim didn't trade with Toronto. Not that he is anything special either but at least he would have been a big 4 line guy with some third line upside.
-
Learn to freaking read I've said others like them but there is no damn need to shove them in people who don't care about that stuff , period. Also trying to use fatal fallacies won't change my stance on it. If you like them fine go create an all things advanced stats topic and keep the stuff there instead of trying to do it HFboards like where non advanced topics are borderline unreadable because some of the advanced crowd can't even find their own topic and spam normal ones with tons of graphics , formulas and what not. Jurco hasn't shown a good enough work ethic and that's why he's down, period but hey go ahead and create tons of graphics and formulas to justify stuff like this. Even the usual stats aren't telling the whole story someone could be held of the scoreboard and still have an amazing game by blocking a shot and changing the dynamics of the game with a huge open ice hit but hey excel can't tell you that so it's not advanced ...
-
Yeah the hardest shot competition and the fastest skater are the only 2 things worth tuning in. as others have mentioned the waiting time between the challenges is way too high.
-
We will see if it goes away or not...:-) There is nothing to discuss about this stuff, some like it some don't I don't and would basically pull a Colton Orr and laugh it off. I'm not a coach and I don't need to understand everything they do, but by watching the game I can easily see who is giving his all and who isn't it may not always show up on the scoreboard and like I've said there are intangibles involved and secondly I don't need to have Excel open while watching a hockeygame. When the coach comes out and basically states that a player isn't giving his all and gets demoted because of this I don't need to know all the stuff that went into the decision, fact is he Jurco hasn't worked hard enough and thats why they've send him down. Is his career over? Far from it but at some point he either gets it going or he doesn't simple as that and I really don't need Excel for knowing that.
