I guess those needs depend on what you want your team to do. Do we have a goal scorer? Last time someone reached over 30 goals on the Red Wings was 2008-09 when we had 4 guys reach over 30 and one had over 40. In my opinion right now we do not have everything a team needs.

I say trade him now while we can get something for him rather than just let him walk away in the off season. If he wants $5M/year he's crazy. Pretty obvious we won't be winning the cup this year unless this team pulls a miracle so why not make the trade and let some younger guys get some experience.

This to me takes the cake from that Malik article: "The Red Wings are interested in adding a top-four defenseman or a top-six forward, but not at the expense of their first-round pick or any top prospects." Sorry Ken, but you can't give someone a hand full of sh*t and expect a golden egg in return. If we aren't going to use the depth we have as trade bait to get a higher caliber player, then at least dump the old farts that are taking up space for developing the young talent. This season has just been frustrating.

Flip couldn't tape Doan's stick, let alone be as good as he is. Doan plays physical and does whatever it takes to put the puck in the net. I don't see that Flip at all.

Pretty sure that's Tootoo. He's not big but he's nasty, physical, body checks the crap out of guys and fights. Oh yeah and he has scored this season. Something Clowe hasn't done.

I think it's going to be pretty quiet for the Red Wings this week...I hope I'm wrong.

As a Brewers fan this hits a little close to home...I don't mind the Tigers though but it definitely shows Mr. Ilitch is willing to do what it takes to win! I was definitely excited when I heard Dekeyser picked the Wings. I saw limited footage of him since I mainly got WCHA games but I'm excited to see what he can bring to the team.

Looking at their roster on capgeek.com it's going to be interesting what happens with Corey Perry or Bobby Ryan next year. Quite a bit of signings in the off season for them not to mention Cam Fowler gets a raise.

I would NOT want Heatley. I grew up watching him at UW and loved watching him early on in the pros. I live close to MN and go watch the Wild occasionally. This guy floats around almost as much as Franzen and sometimes just looks like he doesn't really care. Mind you he was playing with Koivu and Parise and couldn't make anything of it and has been sent down to the second line and then the third line. If he can't produce with those two on his line he won't produce with anyone. He's washed up if you ask me.

Good to see there is going to be some competition for playing time, should make everyone step up their play. I'm only 23 so I've lucked out rooting for the Red Wings. As upset I was about the lock out I was sort of relieved I didn't have to see the blue line with no Lidstrom. Hopefully it won't be so bad, I trust Babcock being able to take care of it.

Looking at cap geek doesn't seem like there's too many quality UFA defensemen this off season. Hopefully we have some of the younger guys step up to fill some of the void.
