Boston can't catch a break atm it seems. Good for us but I'm sure that they will bounce back make the playoffs on a non-wildcard spot. It is almost impossible not to with that rooster.

10/23 GDT : Penguins 3 at Red Wings 4 (OT)

I think Tatar looked terrible last night. Aside from turnovers he was pretty much invisible. That wasn't the case in the games before that but his and Helms goal drought are one big reason the Wings have so few goals for. Maybe I expect to much from Tatar, but he has to get better this season than he his now. Who looked great last night however was Kindl. Aside from his neutral zone gaffe (which he impressively made up for with his defensive play afterwards) he made a good impression out there. Especially that long pass on Miller during the 2nd (?) was very impressive. More of that please. -

Wow what a great comeback. That is probably what I love most in hockey : Even when trailing two goals and just 3 minutes on the clock you never now how the game will end. Way to go Wings ! -

Jep, he also certainly isn't the second coming of Carey Price, so Greiss as starter should be good for us. Three Germans playing for the Pens tonight !? Can I get political asylum in Sweden for tonight ? -
Can't cite this often enough. Not only is Miller good at was he's supposed to be doing he is also very cheap capwise which gives the team the possibility to sign better top-6/9 guys.

slava voynov suspended after domestic violence arrest

Come on, E_T did never imply to just put everyone in jail without any evidence or court hearing. Like you I disagree with him on the topic of exclusion of evidence but let's not try to poison this already sensitive topic with aggressive allegations like that. -
I think you hit the nail on the head : The main "problem" is our portion of young players. Dekeyser and Smith are in their second full NHL season, Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan Jurco and Glendening on their first and I can count the NHL games Nestrasil played with my fingers. This squad can't play the position-passing style we are used from the last Lidstrom/Rafalski years because they lack the experience for that. We have to be patient, but in two or three years I predict they can play that style again if they need to. I think right now we're a little bit limited in our offensive tactics, because as you said our young guys only weapon is their speed. But that will improve and with it the Red Wings will become a very dangerous team by that time if they can hold their core together. Right now we can only watch them mature and that includes low goalscoring and losses like that against Montreal.

Correct. It's not that this new to us. This problem haunts us for two or three seasons now. Great teams find a way to win regardless of wrong calls against them. We are obviously not one of them (yet).

slava voynov suspended after domestic violence arrest

It should. In Germany the employer can void the contract pretty much immediately if the employee can't provide his labor due to his culpability, which is of course the case if you're convicted to a prison sentence. There is certainly something similar in your common law. If he is just convicted and still is a free man it depends on his contract with his employer, e.g. the LA Kings. -

Let's just say I've seen several Internet discussions go a very ugly way down, so I better make sure I'm understood. It was not specifically aimed at you. -
This. I think it's a precautionary measure. If it were the playoffs Mule would play.

You'd be surprised to hear how often they actually are. It's an accusation hard to defend against, and also almost impossible to get rid of the reputation even if you've proven to be innocent. It's a very effective weapon if you want to destroy your husbands/boyfriends life so I would be very cautious with any conclusion drawn from a sports writers article or any other article in any newspaper. Disclaimer : This is not meant to trivialize domestic violence or imply that most woman who press domestic violence charges did not face domestic violence. Domestic violence is indeed a great problem and should not be taken lightly. But I'm very, very cautions if there is someone with the slightest fame involved because it targets this famous person in his/her most weak spot. -
Jep, Greene would be the best solution. If he gets going here, resign him, if not no problem as he's an UFA. Our only problem is the cap. According to capgeek we'd have 5,120,802 $ cap space if we trade Kindl away. Greene takes 6,083,333 $. Kenny needs to find around 1 Mil capspace somewhere in our roster or let Washington eat it if he wants to make this trade.

Hmm, thats kind of a bummer. Jimmy was great the last few games, let's hope he recovers quickly. -
If it is Babs has to go immediately. Simple as that. But I highly doubt thats a reason Weiss sits. I regard Babcock as a highly professional coach who has reasons aside from a feud with his GM to play or not to play an athlete. I'm sure if Weiss is good enough and fits the current roster he would play. Let's not read to much into the situation.

Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"
derblaueClaus replied to trule23's topic in General
Just let me get this straight : Because Alfie made a "piss poor" decision, it's all Holland fault ? When Alfie choose us above the Bruins despite our slim chances to win him a Cup shouldn't Holland get credit for bringing such a player here ? -
more NHL wisdom: Chris Pronger may work for Dept of Player Safety
derblaueClaus replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
I think that big guys who stood mostly clean during their career know a lot more about the rules and limits of a physical game than guys who obviously couldn't or didn't want to respect those rules. Let aside the aspect of a believable moral authority. The cheats in Vegas comparison isn't the right one here. Those guys are hired because of their abilities and insider knowledge. The ability to run the Department of Player Safety isn't bound to you former status as goon. Knowing how to smash a head on the ice surface or stomping on a guys leg doesn't require any special ability nor knowledge that would qualify you over a guy who didn't do those things. -

derblaueClaus replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
It's like making Al Capone attorney general. While it we still have to see how the Department decides from now on, it's a bonehead decision. The judgments of the DoPS are controversial enough. If there is one person that only arouses the suspicion to be biased it wont help the DoPS and the NHL as a whole. Transferred to the real judicial system Pronger would be a judge who has committed the worst crimes while also being a victim of them. He would be recused and rightfully so. By both parties. -
gdt 10/11/14 GDT: Game 2 | Ducks 3 @ Red Wings 2
derblaueClaus replied to FlashyG's topic in General
Everything the posters above me said. The lapses and mistakes will eventually iron out and get fewer during the season. One of our main problems last night was getting the puck on the net, at least the first two periods. Sure we were better, but the Ducks blocked a lot of the shots. I'm pretty sure that will get better too. It was only their second game. If I compare the first games now with the ones a few years back it's like day and night. Remember our start against the Blues after Lids left ? That was horrible to watch. This season we beat one of (if not the) the best teams in the NHL and outplayed the a team that won second place in the Western Conference last season. All that with speed, heart, grit and hockey that is fun to watch. It's still to early in the season to make an elaborate prediction where the Wings will be in the standings in the end. What I can predict is that we will have a lot of fun watching this team, not only this season but many more seasons to come. -
