One of the things I admired about McCarty's ability to fight was how easily he would duck and move out of punches. He didn't have the punch of Kocur, nor was he a heavyweight like Probert or Brashear, but he was one strategic fighter that's for sure. I mean as brutal as it may sound, after the glove punch on Lemieux and the follow up turtle the guy went straight to kneeing him in the head to inflict pain. Now that's some strategic street fighting lol. USE EVERYTHING AT YOUR DISPOSAL! He would have probably been a better MMA fighter than McGrattan's sorry attempt at it (when he was doing some MMA training that is).

I don't think Lemieux connected a single punch lol. He missed the first one too.

Well most of these players we got when we were a good team and had s***tier draft picks, not really anyone's fault. Some of the others we traded away for some nice draft picks. The way I see it, we shed some bad players for sure. Need to rid some more, and go back to high standards.

Sounds like Toronto Maple Leafs between 2005 - 2010.Bottom standing team that would rally in the last 10 games and miss out on a high pick and continue to suck every year. Until they finally got that Marner, Rielly and Mathews picks in 2012, 2015 and 2016. Same guys that are taking the team to the playoffs this year (possibly, I think they're 8th in the standings right now). Babcock finally came in and showed them how to tank correctly

They shouldn't be losing on purpose , but the "hope" is they do lose.

Lemieux lost 90% of his fights man. Abdelkader would beat him in a fight for sure. Deadmarsh and Foote would probably decimate this team though. I don't think they were embarassed he didn't fight then and there, they were probably embarased he didn't challenge McCarty later in the game. Lemeiux did come back in the game after the turtle session if I'm not mistaken.

Defenseman or not we still want high pick because that's still currency for us. Crazy scenario but we could draft Viliardi and trade him for a #1 Defenseman for instance without risking losing a Mantha, AA etc. Or you can draft Viliardi and trade Larkin for Trouba. Now not only do you have a possible 1D but also a possible future 1C. But if we keep winning games and have the #10 or worse pick. We're back to square one for next year and another painful 82 games and no progress. Whoever the 10th pick is, is probably going to be an AHL player for a while.

Pittsburgh has like a 0.0001% chance though. We have like a 10% chance. The worse the team, the higher the chance at higher pick. But ideally the reason we want to keep losing is not necessarily for the 1st pick but to get something between pick 1-5.

I don't think a lot of people realize that if we win games now, we won't be winning much for the next few years guaranteed (which is even more depressing). At least with the high pick there's a higher chance of turning things around in a couple years (2-3 years maybe?). Remember it's not just the 1st round we get a high pick for it's also the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc rounds.

That's how I feel when we play Chicago or Toronto as they are the Detroiter's neighbors and a lot of the natives from those areas live here/ work for the motor industry.

Great loss. Zetterberg gets a sweet assist and is now 4 points away from 900 points, Tatar scoring some more goals for his confidence sake and will likely demand a lot of money so will be signed and traded for Trouba, but at the end of the day we still lost the game and are one step closer to a higher draft pick. The sooner we can get Vilardi or Patrick the sooner we will be to the Stanley Cup. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Didn't he come back and lose the two games though? I remember watching game 6 and it was brutal.

They had tough guys but we had a McCarty. I remember Deadmarsh, Odgers tried fighting McCarty but couldn't really beat him. Wings went on to win cups, those guys were still embarassed. I've also heard the Crawford wasn't the best coach when it came to rallying the team together. Ironically Crawford was also involved in the Bertuzzi incident.
