Mathematically speaking I see no positive effect. I see a negative with a giveaway.

I mean hear me out for this theory; they sign Nielsen till 2022 primarily to play center, Z is in till 2021 or whatever, Helm locked in for 4 more years, Glendening and Sheahan played some 4th line center (Glendening locked for 4 years). Why sign all these centers long term, play them in those positions and continue to play Larkin and AA on wing? I can only assume they are 1. Not comfortable having those guys there and 2. prefer them to be hybrids rather than full on centers (Like Zetterberg in the 2000s). I say hybrids because AA and Larkin do take faceoffs, just not that much.

What I mean is, I wonder if Blash and Holland still see them as 1C/2C. Like, are they playing Wingers this season because that's how management sees them being best at? Makes you wonder aye?

Be honest, are they actually going to be 1C/2C or is that LGW made up? Serious question because I have no idea.

Still think they should have traded him in 2015 and gotten something for it. No hindsight either, I called it that he wasn't an NHL player well before that. Small one-dimensional NHL players rarely work and when you add the combination of the Red Wings mind-set they for sure will never work. We're too defensive (traditional defense) minded in our coaching styles. Sheahan could be the next Pulkinnen in a couple of years (put on waivers); although being a center I think he will still have some value. If it were me, I would have traded Sheahan this deadline because I predict he has a higher chance of not panning out for us (speaking purely in terms of probability). He just doesn't seem to fit into any particular role. A big guy that doesn't use his size, not particularly good as an offensive center, not much of a grinder; has a good wrist shot but not the hockey IQ to find the openings for it. We'll see in a couple of years if I'm right. Obviously I hope I'm wrong about him for the teams sake.

McDavid is in a seperate league from Mathews imo. McDavid is probably the best pick in the last 20 years. He's supposedly already claimed to better than Crosby with a higher ceiling. Mathews/Eichel/Laine are probably in their own league of skills

You're starting to freak us out. Calmmm downnnn It's not that bad. We hit a good start for some changes. It's not going to come easy. It going to take a couple of years at least. On the other hand there's no reason to give up on Nyquist or Tatar yet "just to dump contracts". If we got a high pick this year and somehow if got Nolan Patrick or Vilardi, either could very well be our 1Cs come October of 2017 and center Nyquist/Tatar and end up being a really good elite line. Just look at what Mathews is doing for Toronto. That amount of improvement could be us in October. And with the amount of picks we have now, simply increases out chances of landing another hidden gem that could be developed in a couple of years and we're back on top. Doesn't have to be an 8 year rebuild, could very well be 3-4 years. It's all in the probability and these later picks have increased our probability tremendously. One thing at a time is what their approach looks like, let's see how things are this summer.

Lot of folks are making a fool of themselves with their absurd reactions. 1. We don't know what offers were being given for Vanek. 1b.. Stop acting like you know, you don't know jack s***. 2. Some of you (including me) overestimated Vanek's worth. 3 Vanek clearly said he's going to explore free agency so holding on to him would have been pointless. 4. Having a big depth defenseman never hurts, we have too many small ones, it adds another dimension. 5. He's a former 10th pick, what makes you think we can't turn his career around? 6. You were likely looking to ***** about Holland and the previous two deals he made was making your ego hurt big time. The Vanek deal is your trigger to resume the whining. 7. If you think Holland is incompetent, get used to it, he's in this for the long run it looks like. He officially just started the rebuild, they're going to give him years to see how it progresses.

Nyquististhefuture your ability to judge Holland's moves and the Vanek deal are as about as good as your username.

Good riddance. Extremely overrated in Detroit since he was drafted which backfired and caused others to dislike him. That's what happens when players get overhyped. I remember some calling him the next Lidstrom. Hope he does well in NYR this year so they re-sign him for the next 15 years and we can go back to developing some real D-men. Bring on Cholowski.
