Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder
kickazz replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Guys (both pro and anti Jurco) Jurco is not a Red Wing anymore. He's gone. For good. Just let it go lol. He'll be playing AGAINST us now as a rival. Doesn't give a s*** about us anymore. Moved on. Sayonara. Adios. Doesn't need our support or hate. Could care less about it. Has a new fanbase in the Blackhawks now. -
Lol yeah I knew you were one of us WWE fans.

As expected of the group

Well. Jurco was 0-2 with two different coaches. So I do wonder if it's something behind the scenes. -
He wouldn't fit our system. Too many similar players.
-
Even so watching Jurco play still didn't make me feel like he was anything more than a 3rd liner. His hockey IQ just wasn't there compared to Mantha, AA, etc. If it was 2003 or something I'd say we can invest some time in him and help him. But we're at the point where we need players who can help themselves and help the team. Mantha and Larkin both clicked right away in their first few NHL games. We need more of that. That's why I'm also very pro "lets get a high 1st round pick" this year because whoever the first round pick is; say Viliardi or Patrick- that player will likely be NHL ready and be a great player from the get-go. Won't be Connor McDavid level but even something half that level would be nice.

Even if Jurco scored one goal with the Hawks I bet people going to flip out and be all like "SEE HE WAS MISUSED"

He won't make it far with the Hawks I predict we come out as winners in this deal or at the very least nobody wins. -
SAD!

Bottom line is that there's no room to re-sign Smith if we're re-signing Tatar, AA, etc and for those that want him back, consider the crunch this team is likely to be in. This is why I was not a fan of the Helm contract. Yes a lot of you like him and yes he's a decent player but the sum of that parts of all our contracts are adding up to be a potential disaster. I get it, you want a certain player here because you like him; but think broadly. This teams future is f***ed with the contracts we keep adding on and on and on. This isn't really about Smith or Ericsson or Helm or whoever, it's about contract A, contract, B, contract, C. Objectively speaking. Don't look at it player by player, look at it as a whole. We're one of the worst teams in terms of cap space and contracts overall.

I found this: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nhl-stagnant-salary-cap-drama-expected-in-2017-18-142359315.html The NHL apparently anticipates the cap to remain flat next season, with little if any increase projected over this year’s $73 million ceiling.
-
Oh lol.
-
Your article says " “Our practice with Players' Association really has been over the last couple years to try to sit down and talk about a reasonable projection for revenue growth and build in that inflator,” Daly said. “So that's what I'd say, it's somewhere probably between the current cap and $74 million.”
-
Actually the bold is a good one technically. Cap hit is $6 million and he's putting up as much or more points than players who have cap hit of $8-10 million a year (Getzlaf, Kesler, Voracek etc). Some of these NHL players are over paid as hell, I personally think Z's deal is cheap for the production he gives us. Yes cap friendly updated theirs to $73 million that's what I used. Next year we have $67 million on the books and cap friendly have $73 million as the cap ceiling. But if your article says its going to be $74 then that's about $7 million left over instead of the $6 million I said.
-
My numbers assumed the cap at $73 million. So if it goes up to $74 million then that's $7.1 to work with instead of the base $6.1. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/redwings

Imo by next week we should: Trade Vanek for 1st round pick Trade Tatar (or Nyquist) for something I can't tihnk of because I'm not a GM and don't understand market value more than the average fan. But it's got to be something good. Trade Smith for 2nd round pick maybe in a package with Jurco. Now you have enough money to resign AA, Jensen, Oullette, guaranteed with possible some left over with the expansion draft. Save that money for the following year to re-sign Larkin, Mantha and MRAZEK (yep theyre due for contracts in a year guys). If possible somehow get Trouba or: Draft high this summer, trade up your pick if possible. I think those things need to be on the "to-do" list. Obviously not all can be accomplished but hopefully some of those things can be. (Vanek trade, Smith trade, High pick). Or stand pat and cry.
-
Well from what I heard Holland has been in talks with Smith's agent. If Smith's asking price is too high then you trade him for WHATEVER you can get (4th or 5th) instead of losing him for free. Because he'll be gone in the free agency anyways. As a GM you simply can't bank on the fact that "Well hopefully no one re-signs him and maybe we can get him back" See what I mean? Would you rather sell your used car originally valued at $20,000 for a $1000 or donate it for free? That's the logic here.
-
Well assuming Holland doesn't trade him. He'd be an RFA and someone we would most likely re-sign 100% and he'll be asking about Nyquist money (4.5 million or whatever at least)
-
Lots of folks don't seem to realize that the Red Wings ONLY have $6.1 million in cap space when this season ends and need to re-sign the following players: Tomas Tatar (priority if we're not trading him) AA (even bigger priority, he's 100% our future) Jensen Oullette Smith Jurco Who do you guys re-sign? You only have $6.1 mill to work with. Best case scenario Vegas takes Howard and we have $11 million and we're ok. But if they take Sheahan then we're up $8 million and that's still not enough for everyone imo.
-
This whole "I can't let go of you" mentality is what's put the Red Wings in the position they are today. Bad contracts and not a dollar to spend. What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that Larkin, Mantha, AA will be due for some hefty contracts. Not to mention Tatar will be demanding a lot of money as well. But of course, Brendan Smith gets locked in along with DK and Ericsson so not much money to spend >.> SAD!
