This thread is the perfect venting thread. Whoever made it props.

I think Laine will win it.

Phenomenal scouting seeing as though a lot of our 90s roster ended up in the Hall of Fame. He climbed up the success ladder and ended up where he is for a reason.

The bold premise is basically what I said in my sarcastic post above. Simply and solidly put. Thanks. People will say whatever they want to hate on the guy. I mean I'm on the boat that its time to split ways with Holland (once his contract expires in 2018) and get a fresh new look in the franchise, but to discredit the guy and come up with lame arguments is just ridiculous and can be applied to almost any GM in the league. Ultimately the GMs job is to pitch in for deals and agree to what players want (by that I mean meet halfway). If player A wanted to come to Detroit, it's upto Holland to make it happen. Not the other way around. Then by your logic, Hakan Andersson and his scouts get zero credit for 97, 98, 2002 and 2008. Who is this Hakan Andersson guy anyway? A nobody.

Further honesty - I got 10 of em. 1. Kept Fedorov from signing with Carolina in his rookie year by matching the offer. 2. Steve Duschesne - yeah that guy was actually our second best defense scorer after Lidstrom in 1999. 3. Signed Datsyuk to multiple contracts 4. Signed Zetterberg to multiple contracts 5. Re-signed Osgood 6. Re-signed Hasek (twice) 7. Brought in Mike Babcock (supposedly the best coach in all of hockey) and kept him here for 10 years 8. Kept Nicklas Lidstrom a Red Wing, continued to sign him for 1 year deals 9. Brian Rafalski 10. Mathew Schneider - didn't really matter he didn't win a cup with us. --- I'd like to see the stats of GMs making actual moves which resulted in Stanley Cup wins. We have about 10 we can "somewhat" give credit to Holland for which were "somehow" translated into Stanley Cups. Who else can we look up that's been consistently successful? Pittsburgh? Chicago? LA? Those are the only other 3 repeat winners that I can think of since Holland took over. All 3 came off successful tank jobs when they got Kane, Toews, Crosby, Malkin, Kopitar etc etc. Can tank jobs actually be credited towards a GM? Probably not. I guess Rutherford in Pittsburgh should get credit for Phil Kessel.. But from what I heard, Kessel WANTED to go to Pittsburgh so Rutherford TECHNICALLY shouldn't get credit for it. Is there really any GM that's done more and resulted in success than Ken Holland? I'm seriously asking. Because if we're going to point out how "well... technically Holland didn't get player A, player A wanted to come". Then we should take a look at every GM and see how much credit they actually deserve. For instance, going by this principle then, the Minnesota GM (Fletcher) gets zero credit for landing Parise and Suter. Why? Because Parise WANTED to go to Minnesota and convinced Suter to go with him. This principal makes be think NHL GMs are overrated. I think players are the real GMs. Anyways this whole arbitrary argument that Ken Holland doesn't actually deserve credit for player A or B needs to be applied ALL across the league to every single GM. Once we've done that we can take a look at how good GMs actually are.

"Somewhat" of a contribution to the 2008 roster. Babcock was the genius behind it all.

I wonder where Mantha stands in rookie of the year watch.

#7 pick doesn't satisfy me. Unless its #1 or #2 we better win games. Top 2 picks can turn your team around. #7 would not, especially not in the Red Wings org that would immediately go back to playoffs and be stuck with more #15-20 picks the following years.

Downward trajectory for 15 years? The 02 and 08 teams were some of the most successful in NHL history. The only conclusion I draw is fans over-dramatize things too much. We've been in a downward trajectory since 2010 at best. 6 years.

Far from it. Axe has already been back. This guy is probably someone elses.

Seriously man can you imagine if Holland had signed him for like 1 year and then Datsyuk ended up leaving right after that? The same people would be complaining about how "Holland couldn't lock Datsyuk up". "He should have signed him for 3 years and he wouldn't have left" Hindsight isn't 20/20 on LGW.com its godam 20/15 SUPERHUMAN vision. 20/15 is better than 20/20 vision if anyone is wondering.
-
Datsyuk took blame, accepted responsbility and (somewhat) apologized. I doesn't matter what excuses anyone here on LGW makes nor does it matter if anyone blames Holland. Datsyuk came out like a man and said it like it was, said that he messed up. Let's follow suit.
-
First step - Does Pavel Datsyuk have hands? Fingers? A pen? Oh he did? Oh ok. So it took his signatures to sign the contract. Next step - Does Datsyuk have a brain? Does he understand what 3 years means (translate that phrase from english into Russian if he needed it). Oh he does understand what 3 years is? Okay good. Last step - Sign it. Oh he did? Oh ok cool nobody put a gun to his head right? Ok sweet! We have a deal! Nah lets blame Holland for someone elses actions. Right on. There was a storm somewhere today and people got stuck in the snow, I blame Holland for it. Everytime people make excuses for someone and blame Holland or Howard or Mrazek blah blah blah, this is the type of irrational thought process I imagine that goes on.

Bs lol. He wouldnt have played here and you know it. And Chychrun wouldn't even put a dent in our problems lol.
-
Well, the Red Wings are 13th in the conference. The Blue Jackets are the number 1 team in entire league right now lol.
-
But I don't buy the notion that Datsyuk would have stayed with the Red Wings if he got to play with Mantha lol. Why would he chose Mantha over his daughter? Makes no sense.
-
The only thing I blame him for is not honoring the contract. His reasons are all okay with me and I get it, but I guess I'm too "by the book" when it comes to contract obligations even in my own personal life. In hindsight though, him leaving isn't really that big of a deal. He's doing "okay" in the KHL right now. Not sure how much difference he would have been in the NHL level. The only thing that sucks is Nielsen is under performing as well.

Man, you're kidding?! 3 in 3? I've not seen this in modern sports.

Your sources show nothing in regards to the point you made.

Doesn't at least 1 player get selected?

That was a hard fought win. https://vine.co/v/iTmXLlEbxPi
