Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

He's bit underrated amongst fans. -
RIP paul bearer ---- Pretty sure Canada is going to win. But I hope the kids win in NA team Wanted to see Sweden vs Russia because I wanted to see Datsyuk vs. Zetterberg, but now I'll probably just get the ticket for one of the games Larkin is playing.

Only if it's greener -
This is what I responded to and none of it is really true. He had the most minutes amongst forwards for the Red Wings for like the last two years. And the captaincy talk I already mentioned and PVD mentioned the language barrier. Alright well all I'm saying is Datsyuk was treated as best as they could have treated him and given the best opportunity for most of his career. Maybe there were times where he shouldn't have played with Brad Richards or Dan Cleary but that happens to a lot of players. There were times where Yzerman played with Doug Brown or Fedorov played with Darren McCarty. Well let me ask you a question, why is Z less deserving of it than Datsyuk? They were probably both equally deserving of it and one of them was locked until 2021 while the other was finishing off his contract.
-
You can have your preferences there's nothing wrong with that. But to pretend like the organization not giving him captaincy and saying he was "Not treated as well as he should have been" is nothing short of ridiculousness. This organization has always treated their players well. That's what sets them apart from the other orgs. You only hear about how good they are to their players like a thousand times a year. Maybe two thousand, I lose track.
-
Exactly. Plus when Lidstrom was retiring Datsyuk's contract was expiring while Z was locked in till 2021. There's probably a multitude of factors at play here. But the language barrier is probably a big one.

Datsyuk was never mad, that's just conspiracy theory/victimizing bs that's starting up on this thread. I've NEVER heard Datsyuk complain about the Red Wings or his line mates. And Datsyuk is a sneaky blunt dude (go look up his opinion on same sex marriage where he gave a blunt answer to the reporter). He has ALWAYS gotten to play with whoever he asked for. Case and point, after Babcock initially put Abdelkader on the top line, Abdelkader was permanently promoted and was stuck on the first line because Datsyuk wanted him to continue on his wing. It's ridiculous that people around here think the guy was treated unfairly. As much as Babcock was getting stale, he showed utmost loyalty to his veterans especially Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Perhaps Babcock's only shortcoming was over-using both of them, which I've already complained about a few hundred times. I love how the narrative has switched from making excuses for Datsyuk because he wanted to go back to his daughter to blaming the organization for treating him unfairly. When in reality we all knew since like 2009 or 2010 that Datsyuk wanted to go back to Russia eventually. That's all there is to it. He wanted to leave, he wanted to play in his homeland, he was homesick. Nothing else to it. And your comment about "being forced to play with Abby". Datsyuk WANTED to play with Abby. And why not? The Datsyuk, Abdelkader, Zetterberg line was one of the best lines in the league when they were at their best. Obviously not as good as the Datsyuk/Zet/Hull or Datsyuk/Zet/Holmstrom line but it was still really good. Our problem was mostly our defense in those initial years we lost Lidstrom. Using an analogy to sum up Abdelkader’s contribution to the top six forwards this season, Datsyuk said, “It’s like somebody needs to pull the piano and somebody needs to play the piano. This is a guy who pulls the piano.” http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=659235

Nothing but bs here. Datsyuk was treated extremely well by Mike and Marian Illitch and to think otherwise is ridiculous. Paid well, given top minutes for most of his career, over the course of his career he also played with the best linemates out of all the Red Wings centers from 2002 - 2016. But I guess some fans just like to ignore facts and whine and whine to make Datsyul look like some victim. This line of argument is absolutely no different than when Lefty was trying to make Datsyuk look worse off, only the opposite which is trying to victimize Datsyuk and make the organization look like s***. Which they are not and you hear about it from all the league players and other owners and broadcasters. It's funny because Datsyuk himself was talking about how much he appreciates the ownership and management for taking care of him and his family. It's good to see conspiracy theories spilling into LGW well before the upcoming season starts though. As far as captaincy goes, every tom, dick and harry knew Zetterberg was going to get it since like 2003. He was drafted and developed to be the future captain.

Who ever said KHL was becoming as good as the NHL a few years ago may want to rethink. Datsyuk and Kovalchuck are a combined 15 points in 4 games. They are dominating at their older age and making these defenders look like junior players.

RIP Gene Wilder. Legend. Silver Streak still one of my fav movies.

I mean anyone can be traded but we're talking Holland's perspective here. He probably thinks Larkin is untouchable followed by Mrazek. I'm not sure if he thinks DK is untouchable though. I mean it's not like DK is an elite defenseman on the other hand Larkin and Mrazek are projected to be elite players in the league. -

AA is a center, Nyquist is a winger. That's apples and oranges. Not to mention a centerman (especially one that can play winger) will always be more valuable. -

We have too many 2nd pairing D-man trading for another is not very smart. Talk to me about potential 1D trades. Enough with the Fowler stuff, the guy is a 2D and nothing more. People keep talking about how we're mediocre but their solutions consist of mediocrity. -

Lol at people who are overrating Fowler. Talk Trouba and I'll agree, but Fowler will always be nothing more than a 2nd pairing D-man. -

So Kronwall could be done here too then.. -
Yep he already had the back surgery. Bad luck for Jurco...
-
Vanek isn't his replacement though, Nielsen is. Vanek is Franzen's replacement.
-
Pav and Kovy are men playing in a boys league. Don't be fooled by their performances there Lefty. This is much easier on Datsyuk's body and as kliq pointed out he doesn't have the same 82 game grind anymore.
