Comparitively a weak class. It's no wonder Lindros (finally) made it. Good for him.

This is 100% true. He was no Wings fan.

signed Drew Miller re-signs... 1 year deal $1.025 million
kickazz replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
They won't scratch Miller for a GR kid. Miller only recently turned 32. He'll be playing all 82 games. Will have to wait to see Betuzzi or Callahan another year I guess. Overripe to the max. Hope I'm wrong though. Them signing him today also likely means Helm is moving on. Silver lining in all this is Berzeench is probably crying. Which is a funny thought. -

His misuage wasn't due to PK it was due to playing 19-20 minutes AFTER back surgery, when he clearly should have been relieved of his minutes. Here's a good article about our PK with Miller/Glendog. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2015/12/2/9830650/the-glendending-draws-near In short- they suck. -

Well look at it this way. I can't use Datsyuk as an example because he didn't actually start killing penalties till 2005. But I'll use Z again. When Z came in 2003, he was immediately put into the PP unit. He was immediately used as a PKer and he was also put on a line with Hull and Datsyuk. If a player is good enough, the team will use him that way. Why do Kopitar, Toews, Bergeron kill penalties, play on the PP, and play a lot of 5 on 5 minutes? Because they're THAT good. If Larkin is that good, you use him. It's not like he'll start logging 30 minutes. Toews manages to do all that and still logs in 19:15 minutes a night (which btw was less icetime than Zetterberg this year lol). ------------- The "resting the legs" argument doesn't really make sense because top talent that kill penalties in the league right now (Bergeron, Toews, and Kopitar) log 19-20 minutes a night and manage to put up 60-70 points a year. It hasn't impeded their ability to score at all. Datsyuk killed penalties in 2008 and that didn't stop him from scoring 97 points. By putting them on PK you're not causing them to play extra time, you're simply balancing their minutes. -
signed Drew Miller re-signs... 1 year deal $1.025 million

A penalty kill should be threatning. Miller is not an offensive threat. When we have the superstars killing our penalties, more often than not it resulted in short handed goals. Remember what AA this did year? (not a superstar yet but definitely a higher upside than Miller) -

So that one day Larkin can grow up to do this. It's not overplaying or exposing. Hank also broke the franchise record that year for all time points in a playoff season. If a player is good enough to do it all, he should do it all. Fedorov, Yzerman, Datsyuk, Zetterberg killed penalties, played on the PP, and played major minutes 5 on 5. Kopitar, Toews, Bergeron do it now. Larkin will be doing it all soon enough. -

Buffalo hasn't qualified for playoffs in 5 years and last year they managed to finish 2 spots higher than the year before. From worst to 3rd worst. GREAT PROGRESS! I see Stamkos singing "started from the bottom" as he joins the Sabres. -

After thinking about it, I don't think I would mind about $12 million being tied up. He's a superstar and the first one to hit UFA in what? A decade? We have a lot of contracts coming off the books in the next few years. We can definitely afford it and more. -

Well remember that Stamkos is the first superstar to hit the free agency in a LONG time. Usually when superstars extend contract within it's "cheaper" than them hitting free agency (no one to compete against in the market when they extend). The fact that he's a free agent automatically will increase his pay day. Imo $12 million won't be anything out of the ordinary. I'm just not sure if it's something Detroit should offer. -

So if Buffalo does in fact offer Stamkos $12x7 as they are rumored to, should Detroit match the offer? Or stick to $10x7 as Detroit is rumored to probably offer. -

Draft day was immediate. They have time to send Shattenkirk off so they will start with the highest price. -

Bringing Helm and Miller back means we won't be able to go after Stamkos + Another UFA. If we let those two walk we would go after both Stamkos + Okposo. Imagine landing both. I'll be sure to send Miller and Helm a fruit basket as a going away present. -

Which is exactly why Backes will want a long term deal. Make $$ till hes 38 or so without having to worry about being traded. If bought out, still gets paid. Sucks but that's the way these contracts seem to he going for these 30+ aged players now -
Holland > Stan Bowman + Chayka COMBINED.

Here are our 7 picks with very short descriptions and a quick read. They all look pretty solid to me. Even the small defenseman we picked up that Lefty was unimpressed is described as "Despite his lack of size, isn’t afraid to play physically." http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2016/06/25/meet-all-red-wings-draft-picks/86384258/ The only thing that seems questionable is the goalie we picked up lol. Why a goalie?

If I'm Backes, my thought would be that I need a long term deal to be locked in with a NTC so I'm guaranteed pay until I'm 38. If he signs a 2-3 year deal and his contract is up at say age 35, now he's worth nothing more than maybe $1 million dollars. But with a long term contract he'd be getting paid $4 million + till he's 38, regardless of how much he's declined. I say Backes should be a Plan D. Stamkos, Okposo, Eriksson, Ladd should be considered first. And even if we bring him here, I think I'd rather him play Winger. I think the only real Center to go after his Stamkos. If that doesn't work, have Larkin, Sheahan, AA, Z, Glendog as your center rotations and try to land some wingers in the market. -

Does Backes still seem practical? He's going to want a long term and he's already 32 and his production was worse than Zetterberg's. It got to a point where St. Louis was using him on the third line. 2 year deal would be ideal but I think he's going to want a long term deal. -

So Radulov used the NHL to get KHL to spend more on him? He's a smart business man. -
Few words from Hakkan Andersson on Elfstrom. Could be the Hakkan draft steal we hope for every year. On WIIM. Mattias Elfstrom - Forward Height: 63"Weight: 194 lbsShoots: Left 197th overall Elfstrom is a big power-forward kid who can play both center and wing. From what Hakan Andersson told me, he was pushing for Elfstrom to be drafted earlier than he was - "[Tyler Wright] kept saying to me, do you think we can play the draft a little bit? Do a lot of people know about him? and I had to admit, no they dont, but when you like someone you need to grab them, but this worked out great for us." Andersson obviously talking about what a steal Elfstrom is at 197th overall. Whats even more awesome is that when asked if other teams knew about him he said, point-blank, "nope."

Could be a sign and trade, could be trading his rights, could be a deal. Could be nothing. It's Saturday night, he's 26, he could be clubbing in Club Prana in Ybor city, Tampa with the ladies. (Great club btw I snuck in there back when I was 17. Highly recommend 10/10.) -

Well if it's today I'd assume he's signing with Tampa. None of the other teams have even sat down with him to give him a presentation of what to expect in their organization.. I remember Holland had a legit presentation for Suter*. -

Lol I was going to say. "5 year Tampa deal" sounds very familiar. I went and looked it up and it showed me his old deal he signed. Hahah someone's trolling twitter really well.
