Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

He signed a 5 year deal with Tampa... 5 years ago if that's the one they're talking about.Link? -
He's already retired as a Red Wing. He signed the retirement papers last week.

Even IF we drafted Jones or Chychrun (lets focus on Chychrun), you really think the RED WINGS would have let them join the NHL next year? They forced themselves with Larkin because Datsyuk was leaving and thankfully it worked out because Larkin ended up being really good. Larkin is a once in a blue moon situation. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Don't kid yourself thinking that the number 16th pick would have been in a Red Wings jersey next year lol. We all know he would have been in GR. Most teams would have probably started Svechnikov this year but the Red Wings are likely to keep him down in GR for the next two years. And he's not even a defenseman (who typically take longer to develop) If Cholowski does really well in college hockey he could end up here sooner rather than later. College programs are really good development processes anyways. Like it or not, the Red Wings defense prospect pool just got thicker. It's been their goal all year heading into the draft and they weren't going to change that. They also addressed a secondary need by signing a bigger players.

Betuzzi is the new AHL playoff machine from what I hear
-
With the cap space we have, the UFA's are ours to lose.
-
No. Giovani Smith (6'2 205 lbs) would have been gone by round 3 at the latest. Filip Hronek (6 foot 163 lbs) was ranked 49 TSN and we picked him up at 53. He also would have been gone.
-
Do you have a list of people from the 4th round that are going to make the NHL? If so please divulge the information to us.
-
6'2 190 lbs Left shooting defenseman for the 107th pick.
-
Hronek was ranked 49 by TSN/McKenzie.
-
Starting to feel like the old Red Wings from the early 2000s. Making random picks that no one understood. I like it. They're upto something and confident about it.

$7.5 million
-
So with this trade, does anyone know when the Red Wings are eligible to send Vitale to LTIR?
-
It's tough to predict defensemen. College hockey could help this kid. I trust the scouts to be honest. They must have seen something in him that they didn't in the remaining forwards. He'll likely be a late bloomer. He looked like he was 12 years old lmao.
-
It's clear that they want to build their defensive prospect pool. To be honest, we're pretty saturated on the forwards pool.

Toronto could offer him to be the captain. Something we can't/won't do. There's also the issue of him not being able to wear his own number possibly. And the issue of Buffalo/Toronto being nicer places than Detroit. But our suburbs are nicer, which is likely where he would live so who knows. Small factors but could be important factors in decision making. To be honest I would take a $1 million dollar pay cut per year if it meant I got to live in sunny Tampa. That's just me though, I like beaches and wearing shorts year round. -
Careful now, you don't want to get yourself suspended with name calling, baiting, instigating and going off topic. It's really not that big of a deal. You just happened to be wrong and misunderstood the deal from the Red Wings perspective. Lighten up. The Wings made a good deal tonight and Ken Holland exceeded expectations from the looks of it. Datsyuk's contract has been moved. Grab a beer. If you want to continue you're welcome to PM me.

It's not all about Stamkos though. There's Okposo, Eriksson, Ladd, Backes, Lucic, Radulov etc. -
I'm laughing because this post makes no sense and you clearly didn't comprehend my own post. And because I'm Darren Helm laughing at someone who isn't Darren Helm

That's what I'm saying. As of now it's Detroit, Tampa and Buffalo. If Toronto can create cap space they're back in it. But I'm just going by how much money they all have at the moment. -

They still have yet to re-sign 5 more players. So even with the $7 according to that website, they are in a cap crunch. That's not to say they won't trade a crap ton of people to make space. But as of now the top 3 teams in the running are. 1. Tampa 2. Detroit 3. Buffalo Detroit as it stands is the richest team amongst the 4 teams going after Stamkos. We have $24 million. Buffalo has $22 million. Tampa has $18 million, Toronto has $3.7 million ($7 million if you go by sportrac)
