Thornton is a rare breed of a centerman that had the ability to make crap players around him better. Not even Crosby, Zetterberg or Datsyuk had the ability to do what Joe Thornton did. I love D and Z but they didn't have the same gift of making crappy players better, they were more of the type that carried their own weight and put things on their back to score. On the other hand I'd still pick both of them over Thornton because they were marvelous 2-way players, something Thornton never was. I don't like Thornton, but I'll be the first to admit that his vision and playmaking is still very very good and was the best in the last decade. (better than any centerman in the league). As a 36 year old soon to be 37, the guy put up 82 points this season 63 of which was assists. He had more assists than Crosby this year and only 3 points less. Truly impressive. Having said all that, it really does look like this is it for his run at the cup.

A good reason. The only positive for me was Kessel winning it. But I'd never root for Crosby. He was a ****** to Lidstrom and very classless.

The petition will likely not create a dent and the Illitch family will stick to the name they have. Gordie's death just added more fuel to the petition that's all, his death didn't create this situation. And believe me Mike Illitch doesn't feel bullied about this . He's probably on his boat right now with his family relaxing on this nice summer Sunday. I'm sure he respects the fan opinions but will stick to his decision.

Unfortunately the Pronger contract itself is $5 million. I was hoping it wouldn't come down to a swap.

Florida offered the contract plus a second round pick. What if we offer the Datsyuk contract plus Pulk and a mid tier pick. So we lose Pulk, rid the contract and give up a 5th round pick or something (or maybe 4th rounder)... Would that sweeten the deal? Or would we be giving up too much?

Datsyuk's cap hit is worth a lot more than Savard's, making it easier to reach cap floor. It may not require a 2nd rounder in his case. But the situation certainly doesn't look promising

Denial is the first stage mate. There are no conspiracy theories. None of us are hired by Helm and Helm has better things to do than make an account on some forum. He's a millionaire and could careless who thinks what. We're all just fans speaking fairly. Helm > Miller. If you really want to see what the entire forums think, you could start a thread and put up a poll and see for yourself.

No you're right, I meant to say Datsyuk + Helm was against Stamkos' line while Glendening + Miller was against Johnson line. But you see the point I'm trying to make? Stamkos was kept without a goal when matched up against Datsyuk/Helm, while Johnson tore apart the Wings when matched up with Glendening/Miller.

Correction. Johnson single handedly decimated the Wings last year while Datsyuk + Glendening kept Stamkos scoreless in the entire series. Your point makes Miller look bad not good. Johnson was the primary reason we lost the series last year.
