Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
kickazz replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
DD will get paid. But I don't think it will be ridiculous. He's a hometown guy and is getting married soon to a hometown girl (this summer). I doubt he wants to move out of the area he grew up in. His deal should be fair on both ends. I'm more curious about Petr Mrazek to be honest. He could hit arbitration. -
How much ya betting? Kenny said he won't offer Richard's a contract so you're likely to lose the bet

He played 2nd line 2015 and rotated between 2nd and 3rd in 2016 season. Why pay Miller the $1 million at all? To kill penalties? I'd rather transition Larkin and AA into that role. So what's Miller's use once that's taken care of? It's not like our PK is league best or even close to it. I love Miller, but I think this team needs to quit wasting it's time and figure out what's best. Enough with signing guys that are replaceable for cheaper. And if Helm wants to get paid then let him walk. We have AA. Both these guys are replaceable. I'm more concerned about losing Datsyuk and signing a top 3 forward. -

I too get annoyed when Helm overplays the puck and tries to make plays he shouldn't be. I also think Miller is a heart and soul guy and a good leader. But putting aside emotions and all that, Helm is a better hockey player than Miller. This is widely known, there shouldn't much of a discussion here on that topic. -

Darren Helm had less turnovers than Pavel Datsyuk and Zetterberg last season lol. On the contrary, I'd say you need Helm more than Miller. Helm is a centerman that can play wing, Miller can't play center. What exactly does Miller do that Helm can't? Block shots? Blocking shots shouldn't be a reason to keep someone on your roster. AA is our replacement for Helm not Miller. Our replacement for Miller would be someone like Callahan or Bertuzzi from GR. Looking at the numbers here, Helm throws more hits than Miller, he scores more goals, he has more assists and points per game, he has far greater possession metrics. Helm has 9 career short handed goals to Miller's 3. Almost every aspect of the game, whether it's offense or defense aside Helm is better than Miller. Except blocking shots. Also Helm is the fastest skater on the team. Miller isn't even close. Helm is just better plain and simple lol. And my references are - http://www.hockey-reference.com/players/h/helmda01.html http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/_/id/3521/darren-helm https://puckalytics.com/skatercorsistats.html -

Should move on from Miller. I have no idea why Holland wants to hold on to him. We've got a ton of talent coming through. Would not be sad if Helm decided to walk away as well. AA will basically be a better version of Helm for cheaper and much higher ceiling. If Helm takes $3 million or less I'm okay with it but I'm assuming he'd test free agency where he'll make good money. -
2016 SCF: San Jose Sharks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The 99% of the hockey fans that were high on Washington Capitals and kept thinking Crosby is declining and Malkin and Fluery injury was the end of it. Like deers caught in the headlights. The headlights belonging to the Pittsburgh train. Not to mention a lot of hockey analysts picked Caps to win over Penguins and Bolts to beat Pengiuns in 6 or 7 games. -

Lots of people didn't expect Pens to make it this far. But man looking at their roster... they have the two best players in the world and a top 5 goal scorer in the world and they have a Norris nominated defenseman. Pens are built like a team that could repeat. -

The "or" is because Stamkos will likey reject Detroit's offer. Stamkos is obviously Plan A. They also want to have a Plan B, C and D etc. -

Ansar Khan was asked about Wing's chances of landing Stamkos - Q: In what universe do you see it being a possibility that Stamkos goes to the Red Wings? – Ben A: The stars and planets would need to be perfectly aligned. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2016/06/ask_ansar_on_the_red_wings_cha.html -

Datsyuk's cap hit is $7.5 million not $5.5. Trading Howard's contract might require some salary retention. As far as backup is concerned, is Jonas Gustavsson available again? He'd be a cheap $700 k backup. We should be able to re-sign Sheahan, DK, Mrazek as it is, so not worried about them. The space we create would definitely be to try and bring in new players. -

The unfortunate situation for Jurco is that a lot of players are leaping ahead of him. There may not be a roster spot open for him unless he really starts putting some points up. Just in one year, Larkin, AA and Mantha have made the line up. Next year these 3 will likely be with the squad full time. Within the next two years, I won't be surprised is Svetch makes the lineup too. Tatar will get another contract and Abby is already locked in along with Nyquist. Zetterberg will retire as a Wing. Jurco is running out of spots and already spend half the season out of the line up. Imo the next chance he gets, he's going to have to take full advantage. This is the hand he has been dealt. He's going to have to play it. -
Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
kickazz replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Been thinking about this. I think I'd rather us go for Andrew Ladd at this point. He fills two needs. 1. He can score 25 goals a year - something Radulov might not be able to. 2. He's a powerforward. Something Radulov isn't. Something we really need. Ladd's cap hit was $4.4. But he's due for a raise. He's a leader and a good team player, he'd be a great addition to the Zetterberg lockerroom. It looks like Chicago has told Ladd they won't resign him EVEN THOUGH he offered to take a pay cut. If that is the case, he might be cheaper than expected. I hope Kenny pushes for him if Stamkos doesn't work. I'd give Ladd $5.5 million 4 years. He'll may want $6-7 million. Best offer $6 million. -

How long do we give Jurco? He'll be 24 sometime this upcoming season and he's got about 3 years in the NHL under his belt. Seems like there's a lot of players jumping ahead of him on the depth chart year in and year out. I say one more year and if he's continued to be wasted on the 4th line then we're wasting his time and our own. Would take him over Radulov but 6 years is too much.. -

It's a tough one. Hartnell has been on a decline. Not a huge decline but definitely a steady slow rate one. And we would have him for another 3 years which is the same amount of time as Jimmy's contract. I think I'd do it if no one else budges for taking Howard contract. I'd call it a plan B or C. But if they are looking for a backup - wouldn't Howard be an expensive backup? With Bobrovsky's new contract and Howard's, they would be tied with almost $13 million in goaltending. Guess it depends on the expansion draft timeline. From what I heard it wouldn't take effect until 2018/19 - which is basically when Hartnell and Howard's contract ends? -

Aivis Kalniņš @A_Kalnins Jun 3 SKA actively pursuing Pavel Datsyuk, offer on the table stands at 4.8 milion per season. The KHL insider guy amato mentioned in another thread apparently has some info on Pav too. Take it with a grain of salt though. -

Lil Bert, Callahan, and Nosek are good options for 4th line. We'll be fine there imo. Jurco should bump up to 3rd or on his lucky day the 2nd line. Nyquist - Zet - Abby Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco (remember this line?) Mantha - AA - Larkin Callahan - Glendog - Bert Just throwing some stuff out as filler. I don't see AA and Larkin being on the same line. But anyways, top 3 lines need to divide ice times more evenly. No need for Zetterberg's line to get 19+ minutes a night. This roster would probably squeeze into playoffs and that's about it, but that's where we stand unless we bring some new faces in. New faces on the roster, I don't see Jurco playing for us anymore (plus I think we're wasting him on the 4th line). So swap Jurco with new forward possibly. And maybe Pulk gone with Datsyuk's contract. Who would be the forwards we bring in anyway. Seems like Radulov situation might not happen. Maybe Andrew Ladd or Eriksson. -
Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
kickazz replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Not sure about Detroit, But unless Tampa offers him at least $9 million he might leave. Their first offer was less than that and he immediately shot it down. Yzerman also has to think about resigning A LOT of players in the future. As it stands, Tampa has to re-sign Stamkos, Killorn, Kucherov, Paquette, Nesterov, and a few others. Next year, they'll have to re-sign Tyler Johnson, Palat, Brian Boyle, Jonathan Drouin, Victor Hedman, and Ben Bishop. All of those players listed are due for a BIG pay day. Why? Because of the very reason you stated, they've gone to the conference finals 2 years in a row. -
RIP Muhammad Ali.
