Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
kickazz replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Lol Avery was not drafted. We straight up signed him as a free agent. And since your biggest issue is that Radulov will be a locker room cancer, I find it amusing that for some reason you're making excuses for Avery who might be the worst locker room cancer of the past decade from the beginning to the very end of his career, but for some reason you're talking about Radulov having off ice issues in Quebec when he was what? 18 years old? And why does it matter what they were brought in for? Isn't your whole issue about him being an problem in the locker room for Dylan Larkin. We needed the players we signed for their specific roles. Avery for physicality, Bert for physicality and scoring, Tootoo to be a grinder. And now we need a scorer. Radulov fits the picture for that. All 4 players had some sort of character issue or drama. 3 of them have been signed by the Red Wings, the 4th one on the list may very well be too. Nothing out of the ordinary. -
Yeah the new Florida logo design is very similar to an MLS/ Soccer team in general. I personally liked the old Panther they had better - more ferocious. But the new one ain't too bad. Got a bit of a classy touch to it.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
kickazz replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
You don't?? Then what the hell is the point of a captain, assistant captain and a coach in this game? And why the hell was Larkin put on a line with Zetterberg and why the hell do those two go for lunch everyday before games? Better yet, why the hell have Larkin (and the rest of the squad) praised Zetterberg (and of course Datsyuk) as being influential and leaders by example in multiple interviews? -

We've brought in Sean Avery, Todd Bertuzzi, Jordin Tootoo for pete's sake! Brenden Shanahan was labeled as one of the worst locker room cancers when he played for the Blues. And Bowman brought him in regardless. Look at how things turned out for him and the Wings. Even Dominic Hasek was known to cause locker room issues in his previous teams. Radulov won't be anything out of the ordinary. This is exactly what the Red Wings do. We bring in controversial players and try to make good use of them. -

Does Radulov have some sort of magical powers to affect Larkin enough to overpower Zetterberg, Blashill, Kronwall's influence? It's like the Wings have had a good tradition of players for a few decades now and RADULOV of all people is going to come in and destroy all of that in a month or something. Come on- the organization would never let it get to that. -

Update on Radulov - The Detroit Red Wings are interested in signing Russian star Alexander Radulov, but only for one year. They believe signing him to a one-year deal, likely in the $4 million to $5 million range, would limit their risk, a source said. Radulov, who turns 30 on July 5, is believed to be seeking a two-year deal, which the Red Wings are hesitant to give. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2016/06/red_wings_interested_in_signin.html -

Swap Bowman and Babcock with 02 and 08 teams and 08 team wins. 02 team couldn't beat Giguiere in 03 without Bowman or Hasek. 08 team went back to the finals. I love the 02 team as much as any other Wings fan. On paper it was an amazing team but in reality most of those guys were well past their primes. If all those guys were in their primes that 02 team could wreck a Soviet or current day Canadian team for sure. Most of the 08 team players were in their primes. We're basically comparing an aged 02 roster to a prime 08 roster - which is why I'd say the 08 team wins. If we were comparing the 02 guys all in their primes playing against the 08 team it would be no competition. But anyways we're going way off topic lol. Just a matter of opinion. -

I think the speed of the 2008 team would beat 2002 team. Hockey was faster in 2008 than it was in 2002. Plus the 2008 team didn't lose more than 2 games in a series while the 2002 team went to game 7 with the Avs and was down 0-2 to the Canucks. I'd pick the 08 team because of the way they just clicked together. I know 2002 team had the better players, but better doesn't always mean winners. But the trump card is obviously coaching. Bowman read the game wayyyy better than Babcock ever will. -

I think the Avs being "front runners" at one point might be true. Varlamov himself stated that Radulov has a good shot of coming to the Avs. And those two are good friends. So hockey analysts or not, I take the word of teammates/players as more direct source. I'm not 100% sure about the Wings being the front runners though. I mean unless Datsyuk or Holland himself came out and said they have a good shot of getting Radulov or something. -

So basically he's saying Crosby is the better faceoff man? Cheater = winner and better on faceoff circle. Datsyuk is a king of faceoff cheats too. Draper was a god. -

The thing is, Shattenkirk can kill penalties if need be (he's done it for St. Louis) and he's a good puck moving defenseman with decent possession metrics. Many analytics consider defenseman who are good puck movers along with good possession metrics to be good at "defense" as well. It all depends on your view of what defense truly is. And I'm not sure if he'll be paid $7 million after his contract is up. -

So just to be clear when you say he "put up numbers, and doesn't do much else", you mean he can score a good amount but not defend for the life of him? I'm not trying to poke fun at you or anything, I'm just trying to understand what you mean. -

Apparently this guy does. Which was who I initially responded to anyway. I knew exactly what he meant in his original post. See below. Referring to Enstrom's 50 points seasons ("used to put up numbers a few years ago"). -

Lol I don't know about that even Datsyuk had zero points this playoffs. When people say "oh yea player x puts up numbers" it's a phrase used to indicate people who score. I've never heard of someone use the term "Oh yeah Jonathan Ericsson can put up numbers". Shattenkirk can score. He's a point producing and puck moving defenseman. He's an offensive defenseman. He can put up numbers. Ericsson can't. That's the way I think of it. -

No. Not every player in the league can "put up numbers". There's those defenseman that score and those that don't. The fact that Shattenkirk can do it as a defenseman is obviously a good thing for us since we need more scoring. And he'd likely mesh well with Blashill's system. Shattenkirk has a lower cap hit than both Kronwall and Green (he's at $4.3 million) and better possession numbers and scoring than Kronwall and on par with Green (however Shattenkirk is a penalty killer too). If anything I'd say Shattenkirk is rated pretty well and Mike Green was overrated when we gave him the $6 million. It all depends on what we would have to give up but there's no way I'm buying an argument that Shattenkirk is overrated. No one is calling him a Norris finalist - all I've heard from the media is that he may be one of the defenseman available worth trading for. Which is true since there's not many D-men available anyways. I don't think he should be our first target though. But if it happens I won't be upset. I think he'll end up being worth it. He's a young guy that might be built for the Blashill style. -

How is he "overrated" if he can put up numbers. That argument makes no sense. -

Good point about Ray Emery. I forgot about that. -
They won't be the worst team. But I think we al know Team Canada is going to blow everyone away. And they have their own mini powerforward in Brad Marchand.

I'm thinking 4 million sounds "fair" for him. He is afterall the best/ 2nd best scorer in the KHL. I don't see us paying him less than Nyquist. But if Holland pulls it off then great. -

It looks like an accident from the stuff I highlighted in my previous post. I explained my perception of it lol. Haven't you ever seen or heard of people get pissed off and punch the wall like idiots before? This is what it seems like to me. A coach happened to be in the line of fire. We had a guy like him on my lacrosse team way back when. He would throw his stick after a poor defensive play. One day he hit one of the guys by accident when he threw his stick out of his usual fit. Our coach benched him rest of game. I could easily see an outsider thinking he threw his stick on purpose at the guy. But it was a pure fit of rage nothing more. I mean even now in random pickup hockey games I play with older groups, you see guys randomly throw fits. It gets really annoying Anyways, I don't see how anyone can get away with assaulting their coach. Russia isn't a third world nation and Radulov isn't a government official. I can only conclude it as an accident if he got away with it. Either that or Putin did him a favor lol. Hell even Dennis Wideman got hammered with 20 games for getting hit along the boards and "accidentally" hitting the ref. -

Well, watch the slow mo. He looks to the side as if looking at 90 degree angle to him. Then he slams his arm against his bench, the coach behind him raises his hand but then immediately goes back to reading as if nothing happened. Radulov then notices the coach behind him and THEN turns around (he does a double take) at about a 180 degree angle (where the coach is in respect to him) because he likely reaiized he was there and raises his hand (Radulov raises his hand). Why raise his hand after his 2nd look? Did he say "my bad"? I just can't see it as an assault if the coach didn't react (and took it like some dude in prison) and Radulov did a double take after hit threw his "fit". The double take seemed like someone who noticed something behind him immediately. Plus I read that the coach was their goaltending coach. Unless Radulov has a thing against goalies and their coaches lol I'm not trying to make excuses for this guy. He's obviously got anger issues which worries me for the locker room for the Wings. But I just don't get how this was an "assault" if the coach didn't seem to care during the act and after it, the team didn't take any action and the league didn't address it. It just seems like a misinterpreted video. I think the guy just threw a fit and the goalie coach happened to be in the line of fire. Either way the act is inexcusable for a professional grown man imo. -
They needed a powerforward. He fits the description. Powerforwards are a rarity in the NHL today.

Idk I read up on that and speculation was it was an accident since the coach didn't react at all and went about his business. If someone's hitting you on purpose you tend to react in some way at least. -
Yea Brown's decline started when he was 27 lol. It's not like he's a 35 year old Zetterberg or a 37 year old Yzermam who is slow and beaten up.
