A few of us discussed this in another thread but the Russian Ruble is worth less now that it was a couple years ago. Which is why we concluded that that's probably why Radulov wants to leave Russia to play in the NHL. I'm leaning more towards a scenario where to Datsyuk's home country + Daughter >>>> Red Wings. Rather than money scenario.

He wanted to leave last summer not last 6 months.

I'd blame Datsyuk's agent before all this. Datsyuk seems kind of clueless about these things because in the Albom interview Datsyuk said he didn't know that if he signed his contract after age 35 it would cause issues if he tried to leave early. If that's the case his agent clearly didn't inform him correctly.. I mean isn't it the agent's job to tell their client all the important details of a contract? This dead cap space seems like an important bit of info lol.

The practical side in me starting to think similar to this on the matter but the fan boy in me is in denial and wants Datsyuk to move on asap and us to move on asap before this turns into drama which will likely cause me to start thinking of him differently. So before it gets to that....

Overall I don't think Datsyuk played any differently at the championships than he did with the Wings this year. I think NHL is much harder than the championships are. But also that the Russian team had better flow in their play than that Wings did... That said it's fairly obvious he doesn't want or have any desire whatsoever to play for the Red Wings. I mean I get it.. his hockey career should have been over last year (due to his ankle injury) and his dream was to finish his career in Russia. He likely wants to accomplish that dream before another injury in the NHL prevents it from happening. But to be honest I'm getting sick of hearing about all this. He's quickly turning into the boyfriend that wants out but the fans and organization are being clingy and begging for him to stay. We need to move on and be happy for our ex. Time to look for a new soul mate. (cough cough Stamkos).

His ankle is still recovering. It's an 18 (?) month recovery process post surgery. His tendons were completely torn.

Yeah saw the statements from his agent couple days ago about this. I really don't care about the $7.5 million dead space if he leaves. Just go have fun in Russia dude. We love you and always will but your heart isn't in Detroit. It's in Russia. We get it

You're ignoring the rest of their roster. Johnson, Hedman, Garrison, Kucherov, Strallman, Drouin, Killorn These players went to the finals last year and have the experience under their belt.

Yep. That $7.5 million cap space (and letting Miller/Helm walk if need be) basically allows us to offer Stamkos a max contract. Or it allows us to sign Okposo + Radulov. OR trade for a 1D. All the while being able to re-sign our own restricted free agents such as Mrazek, Danny D. So many options possible if we moved his contract. Hell if even it was dead space you could get DD and Mrazek to sign a bit cheaper deals. I'm pretty sure Mrazek stated in a recent interview that he understood the next contract depends on the circumstances of money.

He hasn't talked to him yet. But talking to Holland are just player exit interviews required by each member of the team at the end of the season. Anyways, why would he sign players jerseys and take individual pictures.. That sounds like a lot of work and a waste of time if he wasn't leaving lol. If Dats came back it would be a miracle. But miracles in hockey have happened before so we will see in a few weeks. To be honest though if there was one miracle I'd want from Ken Holland this summer... It wouldn't be bringing back 38 year old Datsyuk, it would be signing Steven Stamkos.

I don't think Datsyuk would do this. If so, The Detroit Red Wings could take action against him since he's still under their contract. This would create a lot of issues down the road. I don't think Pav's that stupid. I will say though that Milstein and Datsyuk need to tread lightly. If he's planning on playing in Russia so be it. But at least be careful about it and let the Wings ownership get the final decision so they can plan to move the contract. Even going as far as "talking" to other teams is a risk. The press will be all over it.
