I'm wondering what the correlation is between Nyquist and Tatar's drop in scoring and not playing with Datsyuk and Zetterberg this year like each of them did last year. Could be why their numbers have dropped. Define secondary scoring in your analysis.

It's not that he didn't concentrate. It was moreso that it wasn't part of his game. Not everyone plays that way, especially compared to now. But that changed when Scotty came along. I think what's impressive about Yzerman is that he changed his game entirely because Bownman asked/wanted him to. And he did a damn good job of it (ended up winning a Selke trophy). That speaks for the inherent skill a guy like him had. Can you imagine asking Ovie to be more defensive? Mountains would fall apart before he tried or be even good at it.

That's mostly because Bowman and Babcock were very defensive minded coaches who wanted their star players to play on both ends of the ice. If allowed to float I'm sure a lot of our top players would have had higher scoring rates

Look at the "Deking" section. Datsyuk is rated at 95 and so is Crosby. Toews is 93.. If they're giving Toews 93 and Crosby 95 for deking (which I'm cool with), Datsyuk should be like a 98. He's has the best hands in the league.. They either underrated him for that OR they overrated Toews and Crosby for deking. But anyways your point stands is what I'm saying.

He was definitely considered as an up and coming possible star when he scored 28 goals in the half season he played. Nyquist was pretty popular by the NHL press when he broke out... Wasn't he voted in as having goal of the year a couple of years ago by TSN? I know it's fan vote but it still put him out there. I don't think size has anything to do with it. Even Johnson for Tampa was getting a lot of recognition last year in the playoffs.

He's on pace for scoring 43 points this season. No. He would not be labelled a star if he scored only 43 points. Even if he was as tall as The Undertaker.

Go back in time and tell Zetterberg not to tweak his back. Hah. If Mantha turns out to be what we want him to maybe he can be 30+ scorer. Not sure. Obviously too early to tell. What we have is a bunch of centers for the future but I don't see any potential goal scorers. Pulkkinen was "supposed" to be one but that's turning out pretty badly..
