  1. And you know all this because yer psychic >.> No actually we dont know. All i do know is we have a head coach with zero NHL head coaching experience, but who i thInk will do decently well since his minors track record is good. But we have nothing on chelios as a coach, be it as an assistant.
  2. Thank you. I dont know why people are getting so excited. We will officially have 2 coaches with zero NHL head coaching/assistant coaching experience. Its like we see Chelios's name and get excited without thinking abput possible consequences. Remember when Gretzky tried to coach. Don't have your hopes up just because Chelios was a great player. He's by no means a savior.

    The return of The Mule?

Most people who aren't in the medical field or one's who haven't gone thru specific injuries themselves don't realize the points you made. Very true. The docs clearing the player doesn't mean they necessarily recommend the player going back out there and putting himself in danger. All it means is "you CAN play", it doesn't mean you "should play". Franzen's doc most likely will advice him not to continue but he will sign his chart off and clear him stating he is symptom free.

What changes do you think we'll see with Blashill?

I was responding to whether or not he "knows" the players or "knows" how to use them. So what I mean is he knew our veterans back in 2012 but our veterans aren't the same. Z is not even a 20 goal scorer now. He can't last a whole season. Pav has good days and bad days. Kronner is now supposed to be the new "Lidstrom" in the back end, but isnt. A lot has changed since he was an assistant. The players he helped coach on the Wings are no longer the players they used to be whether it's in a good way or a bad way. I guess the major stuff is still there. Pav still is strong on faceoffs, should be our number 1 center, how each player trains, leadership styles. etc etc. Still Blashill knows a lot more than any other candidate would have.

New coach knew the players as an assistant years ago. He does not know what they can still contribute to the team since he was with them.

The first thing I'll do is question where the doctors went to medical school and did their residency.

Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

We're not looking at other organizations. We're looking at the Red Wings who have their own standards. Look at the rafters and numbers retired and think to yourself: "What do THESE individuals have in common and what standards have THEY set?" Don't look at other organizations or their players.

Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

It's not that black and white. Fedorov was a hell of a player. But so were a lot of other people on this franchise. If we went about retiring everyone's jerseys just based off of numbers then we should also retire Shanahan and maybe Ullman's as well. Probably even Syd Howe's. It's tough to play in this organization. The standards are set too high. It gets to the point where you look beyond one or two categories. Sure, the numbers and hardware help your case, but they don't solidify it. Some people might have forgotten Feds contributions. I haven't. He was actually my favorite player even after he left the team. But doesn't mean I can't have an opinion that he doesn't meet the requirements to be up there. Do I think he belongs in the Hall of Fame? Absolutely. But was he a special enough Red Wings and Detroiter to have his jersey retired? Not in my opinion. The reason I think Pav and Z have a better chance is because they are close to Feds franchise numbers but they have the commitment factor that Feds gave up on when he was 33 years old. He left. And whether you like it or not, that definitely put a dent on his relations with this city. The fact that people even discuss it and have to write articles about it is proof. Anyways, I'm quiet sure it all depends on what Illitch family thinks of him.

Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

Yeah Lol. Just trying to add some more substance to it. Basically I tell my self why the players on the rafters are up there. They each meet a number of categories which Feds and Ozzy don't. (it's not just about how many wins or cups you have.. it seems to be much more than that..). Hindsight basically.

Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

You misread my post. Which i knew would happen because i was too lazy to go Into details for at almost 4am. I said that theres many categories the people on the rafters fullfill that Ozzy and Feds do not. I didnt say Feds doesnt fullfil the "accomplishments" category. Im talking about how certain players dont meet "all" the categories aka the bar that has been set. In Feds case that would be loyalty to the organization. Ozzys case is the fact that he wasn't a generational goalie. Come on, who in their right mind would try to argue that the best defensive russian forward who won a Hart trophy doesnt have accomplishments. >.> And then I brought Datsyuk as an example. He has accomplishments, loyalty, AND was/is a generational player. I basically wrapped up the post by saying Datsyuk is closer to the bar that was set than Feds and Ozzy were because he meets a lot more categories. Accomplishments, cups, generational player, loyalty/commitment, loved by the fans, loved by the organization, contributions to the city of Detroit, leader by example. Etc etc etc. Ozzy and Feds for many reasons dont have the love and respect from a lot of fans that the guys on those rafters did and the two current players on our roster do. And obviously they dont have the same respect from the organization that yzerman, lidstrom, howe, lindsay etc had. I mean these guys were ADORED. That's the reality of the Red Wings. The bar is set too damn high. If it's even a debate that you should be up there, then likely you won't be up there. If Ozzy and Feds jerseys were retired, it would be setting a new and lower threshold OVERALL (remember not just one category but we're looking at a complete profile). Not that I have a problem with it but it is what it is.

Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

Its not so much that the fans feel that way, its moreso the categories we came up with AFTER looking at exactly who is up on those rafters. The current jerseys up there had major accomplishments, were generational, and had damn good loyalty to the organization. Adding osgood or fedorov would be stepping outside the trend the previous retired jerseys have created. Yes both feds and ozzy have certain records or accomplishments set. But each are missing something the other jerseys have, whether its long term commitment to org or winning individual trophies. The bar has been set high and allowing either of them would be undercuttng it.Z and D both are on the verge of meeting some of Wings legends categories in terms of stats but they need another cup imo. And this is all assuming that Z and D retire as Red Wings or atleast if they left it would be post contract expiration (leaving on a good note).. basicaly when both are pretty old, unlike the case for Feds; he was still pretty young when he left. Z imo really needs another cup and hes a shoe in. The captaincy status really helps. I think almost everyone on the rafter besides Sawchuck was a captain. D was and still is a generational player and already has two cups and best hands the league has seen. Def think he has a realy good chance of getting up there.

Federov. Cry about it. But no he was definitely a generational player. Jersey retirement? Long shot.

The "enigmatic" Tomas Jurco: A Thread

I hope Jurco doesnt turn into the new Smith. You know.. When the fan boys keep saying he has potential in the NHL level but in reality its just hopes and dreams and excuses upon excuses. No seriously though, I'm interested to see how Blash handles the situation.

    The return of The Mule?

Franzen was great in his prime. Franzen had plenty of days when he was a floater on ice. Franzen doesn't use his size which pisses a lot of people off. Franzen has a bomb of a wrist shot. Franzen has lazy days on ice A LOT. Franzen is however a good winger for the amount that he is paid (pretty cheap). Franzen was one of our best "goal scorers" and is actually pretty consistent in that department. Franzen is recovering from TBI and trying to make a comeback. Respect. I hope he makes a full recovery. My heart went out to him in the article where he spoke about being in a "dark place" Franzen if you do return and if you don't play well. You have the benefit of t he doubt because you recovered from TBI. Just like Zetterberg was given the benefit of the doubt by many fans this playoffs. You get a chance too. There. Call me a hater or lover. I said it the way I personally feel about it. If you don't like it then boo frickin hoo. It's a matter of personal opinion. Now can we get back to the topic? I feel like everywhere Franzen is mentioned all we see is divergence from the topic and "HAHA remember when you guys hated him?" or "No we didnt! we were just being honest" or some rubbish coverup.

Duh. And here I thought I'd get Playmaker to respond. You have derailed it and my response is: "These crazy immigrants coming to the US popping out babies just to get DUALcitizenship. Sheesh." No one can claim the Euro Twins title except for Pasha and Sasha (as Holmstrom coined the nickname).

    The return of The Mule?

Muhammad Ali was the greatest of them all. But even he was only brain, skull and skin. Everyone knew Ali should have called it quits when he was showing decline in health, specifically brain health. But he didn't call it quits. Instead he fought a few more times. Why not? the fans wanted him back, he loved the sport. Many Franzen fans would love to have him back. Does he have the right to make the decision just like Muhammad Ali did? Sure. Will he? We shall find out. Answer to original poster. Nobody has a f****** clue mate.

Bit of an extreme statement there. But I bet its because they want their kid to run for president. President Zetterberg. I'd vote for him or her.

Not sure what Sweden's citizenship laws are but I'm willing to bet they want the kid to be born here just so the kid has the option of choosing what national team (Sweden or U.S.A) to represent if he/she goes into hockey. Pretty smart if it does work out. Besides.. having a U.S. citizenship is pretty smart in general.

Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

We're assuming too much. Didn't Blashill himself say that he was content with waiting for the moment? I know Holland said he would allow him to talk to other teams but if Babs signs a short term, I don't see why Blash would just leave knowing that he could take over sooner rather than later. He's signed for a few more years I think. I can see Babs trying for short term to stay around while Pavel Datsyuk finishes out his contract here and while Zetterberg and Kronner drain out their skills as they age. All assumption tho.
