There is no such rumor. He met with Toronto and Sabres and declined any further meetings and immediately signed with Tampa. He got cold feet basically and realized the grass is not greener.

He basically freaked out about it after talking with Toronto and decided not to hit free agency and stayed with Tampa. All it takes is one team to freak you the hell out and make you feel like you're responsible to bring a dead franchise back to life. Screw that, if I was him, I'd stay in Tampa where I know they already have a good team and there's less pressure. Plus all the beaches.

That's one team. Still doesn't change the fact that Detroit would be top 5 eligible to make an offer and afford him. You were confident that he wouldn't come here, I gave you reasons why there's a chance. If they don't resign Mrazek, trade Green and Nyquist and Tatar then yeah.

I think it's the closest place to home besides the Maple Leafs. The Leafs can't afford him (they have no cap space). You're underestimating how many teams can actually afford Tavares. There's not that many. It will mostly likely be that he either stays with the Islanders or signs with a non-contender. Welcome to the cap world.

God I hope we trade a goalie to the Flyers. This is the perfect opportunity to clear cap space.

It's fairly close to his home in Mississauga. Little over an hour on airplane. 3.5 hours driving.

Bottom line is we need to take at least 3-4 contracts off the books by Draft or July 1. I think that’s a fair goal to accomplish. Glendening, Mrazek or Howard, Nyquist, Green.

You have a pretty bad defeatist attitude. Please never become a GM of anything. Regardless of what it is, you ALWAYS go after a high end UFA. End of story. For that you need cap space.

Holland WANTS to free cap soace. He was clear about it in his interview recently. He’s going to be unloading contracts and Mrazek could be one of them.

We do need the cap space if we’re going after Tavares. Which we should be.

The point is our Swedes are his close friends. Alfredsson was convinced to come here by the Swedes. Karlsson can too

It’s still better than the other options he has with other noncontending teams. Any native friends to be close to is better than none.

They’ll still be around here at least half time, their kids were all born here if I’m not mistaken. It will be interesting to see if any Swedes take jobs in management

Lets be honest though, out of all the teams he could get traded to; unless it’s a contender, his next best place to suit him is the Red Wings. All of his closest hockey friends are from here. Franzen, Zetterberg, Kronwall.
