Got to remember that the younger generation is what drives hockey in the US and most of them don't really know prime Crosby like we all do. But they for sure are into the McDavid/ Mathews hype they see from ESPN etc. Kane is popular amongst high schoolers too. Parise popular amongst young college guys. People also like guys like Ovechkin for sure. Crosby just isn't as popular, can't say why. I think because he's pretty boring as a person.

People know who Crosby and McDavid are. They just don't care for it. With the World Series, NFL and College football going on people would rather devote time of the week to those things. Problem is Nielsen hasn't been good at all. I don't know if it's the age or what but he seems off this year. Maybe he picks it up, maybe he doesn't. Anyways, it's obviously a agree to disagree thing but I doubt our PP gets much better even with your change. We just aren't a good group dynamic overall.

Yes Abdelkader is a better option than Daley and Nielsen because what Daley brings is already covered by Green, Kronwal and Frk. Having a 5th player with a similar role would be useless (and quite frankly idiotic) . Nielsen wouldn’t bring anything Z, Tatar, Nyquist, Larkin already don’t. Having too many of the same types of players on the PP is stupid. Hence why neither of then are on those units. You should know this and I’m shocked you haven’t realized it. Abdelkader is unique from both Daley and Nielsen in that he can actually outmuscle defenders when they collapse or fetch the puck in the corners and 9/10 times actually win the battles to keep the PP going. Even if we got rid of the net front presence player, both Abdelkader and Mantha are still useful simply because of their strength in this situation. If Abdelkader gets bumped off the PP it will likely be for someone of similar atribute such as Rasmussen, Givani Smith. I’m predicting this is exactly what will happen in 2-3 years time unless we sign a similar power forward before that. (Or according to Dickiedunn’s conspiracy theory, Larkin becomes the power forward Blashill supposedly wanted him to be) The other option is Franzen makes a miraculous recovery and comes back and bumps Abby off.

Who should replace Abdelkader? Will it be Helm? I know! Ericsson!! The Red Wings don't have many options for the PP, all the important players are already on the units to begin with. Right but you don't know that do you? Because you look at the box score and see that Abdelkader has PP time so he's your defacto guy to chew out on. Not knowing that Larkin, AA, Z, Mantha, Nyquist, Tatar, and all the other "top" players of this team are already on it to begin with. So what's your response? Far from it, if anything he's actually an asset given the info PVD gave us earlier. Which is why I'm wondering who Dickie would rather have. I'm assuming he just said that because he doesn't like Abby in general. Even if you think Abby is not a top 6 player, doesn't mean he doesn't have to be a PP specialist, there's no hard rule that only top 6 are good enough for PP. If anything the opposite is likely true, in that not all top 6 players are cut out to be PP specialists. We've had plenty of bottom 6 players play and thrive on the PP for decades.

The non slot guy/net front for one of the units is Abdelkader regardless where he is. Are you not paying attention to my point. I’m asking who replaces Abdelkader downlow since according to Dickie “Abdelkader shouldn’t be on PP”. On top of that I already said, we have the strategy that we do, with a net front guy. CHange it to what? Not screen the goalie so he saves all the shots? Every team uses players downlow, it would be stupid not to. Ya’ll just see the name “Abdelkader” and talk s***. 5 on 5 the guy isn’t the best but on the PP he’s actually ome of the few that does a good job. Screen goalie, always on the rebounds, always has stick ready for tipin, and he does one thing not even Holmstrom did, he actually goes to the corners during PP to retrieve pucks and fight defenders off. On top if that his puck cycling is actually good (granted he doesn’t need to do it often). Passes it to the open player and doesn’t cough it up like Nyquist/ Tatar who end up getting outmuscled by the defenders 50% of the time Abdelkader is the least of our problems on PP. His only problem is his last name is Abdelkader and not Larkin or Mantha so, you know, he must be the problem.
